Buy recommendations Nagant M1895 legal?
Is this revolver considered antique thinking about getting back into guns kinda at a loss with pistols I've seen posts of old welby revolvers legal im just wondering the legality of this one its a very neat old russian pistol it is a gas seal chamber making it one of the only supressor compatible revolvers very innovative for its time it would be a nice collectible im into old revolvers.

They are legal but hard to find. A gun similar, and with easier to make ammo, and for a third of the price, are the antique MAS 1873 revolvers (often converted to 45acp, which necessitates low pressure handloads). The design of the Nagant was somewhat based on it so it keeps a similar profile, and the reloading components are easy to get ahold of

Theoretically if you could find one made before 1898 but I've literally never even seen one online dated that early. Fewer that 20,000 were made by Nagant Freres in Belgium as Tula production didn't start until 1899 and the survival rate would have been vanishing small considering the Russo-Japanese War, WW1, Russian Civil War and WW2.

I don't think you will see the gas seal version made before 1898, probably more rare then the pre 98 c98. I see the swedish and belgiums models pop up every so often though.

If you can actually find one that was made before 1898 sure. I've only ever seen one "antique" Nagant 1895 for sale in this country and even though CBSA had let the guy import it, I found a Gunboards thread about that very pistol from before it was imported and the consensus was the markings were humped including the date stamp of 1896. It was up for sale for around 6-8K.

I always wondered how the states got so many surplus ones but I've never seen any up here.

No, I remember seeing adds back in 2012 for surplus ones. Typical Soviet surplus where it came with the holster and cleaning kit, they where pretty cheap than also.

If the frame (serialized part of the revolver) of the specific individual firearm in question is made before 1898, yes. If not, then no.
Iv been looking all over for a nagant, and I cannot find one myself. So, I would think it’s going to cost you a pretty penny (over $5000 I would say) if you do find one.

If it’s actually manufactured before 1898 then you’re totally fine, no license required. Authentic antique revolvers in such an available cartridge will drive a very high premium though.
