Can you give me the URL for Crusader Arms website? You can't? Because they don't have one?
Does that not tell you anything?
Buddy, these guys are hiding from the world. You CANNOT contact them directly.

As someone who has unfortunately had experience with Crusader Arms.... Don't. Their quality is piss poor and their customer service is just as bad.
I gave them more money than I'd like to admit to own black rifles and support a Canadian company. Yet they did nothing in return to support their Canadian customers. I would rather shit my pants than give them a dime.

Honestly yeah that sums up my experience with them also lol outta spite I will make my rifle work but that's just cause fuck them hahah

Honestly I would get an Alcor over this any day. But with the Carmel and the Makasi just around the corner I would just get one of them. I am also really hoping to get my hands on the Browning BAR MK4 dbm in 308 at some point as well. Fingers crossed this fall.

I appreciate the effort, but your paying almost as much as the other semis on the market, but its questionable quality, reliability, shooting experience with really shitty magazines.
I would sooner gamble on one of those turkish straight pulls that may or may not come to the market.

Crusader don't deserve any level of patronage.
Crypto was a decent offering, anything after it getting prohibited has been sub-standard slop they knew would sell because there were no other semi-auto centerfire options on the market.
That's not the case now there are offerings like the Makasi and Carmel

Besides how crusader arms basically lied to everyone lol idk I'm on the fence about it their quality seems to vary between guns very very much. I got the backland hunter Gen one. It broke first time at the range with none stop jams. Then I shipped it to get fixed the communication could've been much much much better they had it for almost three months and I constantly had to email and ask with hardly an answer. So I would say be aware of their shirt comings but I'm also taking it back to the range today to see if anything is fixed I'll let you know

Looks pretty nice, but honestly it's basically 100% guaranteed to be banned. Its literally just a crypto in a slightly different stock which means it will be considered an AR15 variant. At least the makasi and the Carmel have an actual frt and are listed as NR. IMHO it's honestly a scam that they are selling these.

Its a Benelli M4 action, shouldn't be banned as a variant. With that said, Carmel or Makasi are still the obvious choices given the reputation of Crusader Arms.

Hopefully the Backland doesn't draw the ire of the government and RCMP towards the Benelli M4. Im honestly surprised the M4 hasn't been banned because it looks tactical.
If the government does decide to ban the BH by name, the Benelli M4 could still end up banned through that bullshit variant status.
I am hoping the government has lost the stomach for more bans though, seeing how they didn't immediately OIC stuff after tumbler ridge, I am inclined to think we are maybe safe for now.
Its too bad all the QC issues with crusader. I actually really like the look of the new Comp model and am torn between holding out for my Mk15 or getting the BH Comp and taking the chance.
There is a chance the Mk15 import never makes it in, but the BH Comp is already in country and hitting stores, so if I want a black rifle, the Crusader has probably the best chance of making it into my hands.... it just might be hot garbage unfortunately.
Its too bad the government has done everything they can to shutdown any half decent Canadian arms manufacturers, outside of Colt Canada.

So many clones that would fall as a variant, would probably be similar to SKS in numbers. Doubt they are that stupid, but who knows. Almost every cheap semi-auto shotgun is a benelli clone.

Not crypto at all. The crypto actually is an AR-15 variant IMO. Unlike the Turkish shotguns that were banned as AR-15 variants.

u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 29d ago
The crypto isn't really an ar15 variant wither, the RCMP just makes its own rules and ignores the law. The crypto should be legal by the regulations described in bill c21.

It was also in line with the ATRS ban, so everyone saw that coming.
It was also not banned because it violated C21. It was found to be C21 compliant, just not 2020 OIC compliant.

C’mon you know that’s disingenuous as all hell. The one and literally only thing that was different about the crypto compared to a standard ar15 was a front pin so that the upper and lowers weren’t compatible. How is that not a variant? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the bans in general are justified, but it just makes us look stupid when we say shit like that

u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 28d ago
The reciever used a a dowel system and it used proprietary magazines that magazines that were limited to 5 rounds.
Theres no defined definition of variant, but the rifle was designed to be in compliance with the regulations laid out in bill c21.
Theres nothing stupid about it except the government doesn't like it when manufacturers follow the law and design something the LPC and Polysesouvient don't like. The law makers have had all the time in the world to write regulations and make definitions and they haven't bothered to. Variant is completely subjective to random opinions of secert "expert" panels or the RCMP lab.

u/a-drunk-canadian al 28d ago
And it was in compliance with bill c21. It got banned because there is virtually zero functional difference between it and an ar15. The crypto is 99 percent interchangeable with an ar15, excluding the front pin and as you mentioned, the magazine. If you were to explain how these rifles simply functioned, where would be the difference be? They would be the exact same until you mentioned the crypto’s upper slides off the lower, instead of pulling out a second pin like an ar15

u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 28d ago
Look at these straight pull variants. With some basic machining skills you could make one into a functional semi auto, yet global affairs and CBSA is letting them be imported and its legal to sell them, but they don't have an FRT yet. Why is the responsibility on PAL holders to research and speculate on what its status will be. They like will be banned as a variant, yet they are legal in NZ and Australia.
The only people who look stupid are the government, the people who refuse to change the laws and adopt changes while trying to regulate guns that they don't like the appearance and relying on a government entity that can't make laws to enforce it.

u/a-drunk-canadian al 28d ago
Hey and I completely agree with all of that, but once again I’m critiquing you on saying the crypto isn’t really an ar15 variant
1
u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 28d ago
Define variant. A gsg16 is by no means a variant of an MP5 but its considered a variant. There is no set definition, list of defining characteristics or whatever.

u/a-drunk-canadian al 28d ago
In this instance the crypto uses the exact same bolt, bolt carrier, barrel, gas system, trigger system, buffer spring, etc. I’d like to ask you this, if a rifle that uses the exact same parts and operating system is in fact not even some form of variant, then what is? Is the fact this rifle doesn’t have a front pin that you can remove, along with a proprietary mag (that functions the exact same way as stanag mags AND is also functional in stanag magwells) somehow so far removed from the original design that it is somehow not even a variant? You claim the crypto isn’t really a variant? How? What MAJOR changes have been done to the crypto that makes it differ from an ar15? Does it use a unique gas system? Is bolt carrier proprietary? The RCMP are a bunch of morons who will define shit at will with no logic. Right now I want you to explain to me how I could take EVERY single part out of a crypto and put it in an ar15, and the only unique item I’d need is a front pin, and not have that be a variant

u/Dependent_Account603 28d ago
While yes it is a variant in laymen's terms, what constitutes a variant still isn't defined in the criminal code which is a problem for enforcement.
1
u/a-drunk-canadian al 28d ago
Oh absolutely it should be better defined, certainly not disagreeing there. I just refuse to accept that it “isn’t really an ar15 variant” as the user originally said
1
u/Remarkable_Vanilla34 28d ago
And there are guns coming into Canada right now that are functionally identical to ones that are banned. Some guns are banned while others that function the same, use the same parts etc are not.
Building a gun to follow the regulations in the bill c21, literally being in compliance, seems like a pretty obvious solution that shouldn't be an issue, but because there is no definition of variant or guide lines on what is and isn't acceptable, its anyone's guess. One small variation to the crypto could have made or broke its FRT status.
Worse yet the gun was banned by FRT, which isn't law. It wasn't officially announced by an official channel and still to this day there hasn't been an option given to people who purchased them. Their just prohibited firearms.
The FRT isn't public, people have made copies public, but they aren't live and its not an official thing. I shouldn't have to check the FRT to make sure im in compliance everyday. And yes, crusader should have wait to get an FRT before starting sales, but the laws are the laws and if the government isn't going to change them, then they should respond better. Or better yet they should have changed the laws 6 years ago when they took on all this bullshit, instead of fumbling their way through it.

I understand in form and function it is but because there is no definition of variant and it was designed in accordance to the regulations in bill c21 it really isn't one.

I bought the first version of this rifle while there was literally no other semi auto 5.56. Now that we have the MK-15 and Carmel no chance I would buy this over those. My backland hunter is actually one of the ones that works really good too. My complaint about it is the fact the bolt carrier cannot be disassembled for cleaning. You just have to spray the shit out of it with break cleaner which I am not a fan of

Buying something from CA is bad but preordering it is batshit crazy given their track record of keeping people’s money

Why buy an insanely unreliable platform when the Makasi and Carmel are the same price and are proven reliable platforms?
Backland hunter quality control and materials are god awful. I wouldnt buy anything from crusader arms even at half price. Even the Alcor is proven to be way more reliable than their backland hunter and it's also cheaper. The alcor also comes with an AR grip adapter that gives it basically the same ergonomics or you can even buy the adapter seperately now...
