Feets / Collection / My build SCSA TaipanX 500 yards

Had a chance to stretch the taipan out to 500 yards today was a tad windy but for first time I’m happy the two holes in the plate are from previously with my .308 savage axis. the dents are all .223. I’m running a bushnell trophy 3-9x40. S&J nano linear comp

How do you like it? Everyone is going ga ga for the makasi and caramel but I’m too spooked to buy one until these bans settle a bit more . Had my eye on one of these for my next purchase

Sorry for the pinging an older post, this looks sick I’d totally do the same and ditch the old stock!

No worries and thanks dude! I ended up going with a lever action Henry in 5.56 because I loved my S&W 1854 so much. The Taipan was great but I’m not a super tactical dude and love a good wood stocked rifle.

Has kind of a BAR vibe to it with the pinned 20round steel mag

These all look slick, can’t go wrong with wood. Did you get rid of that taipan X stock?

I gave it to my friend who purchased the rifle for hunting. His SVT40 isn’t allowed to be brought to the hunt camp anymore and wanted it.

What’d you use to make the attaching point on the wood stock to mate it to the receiver?

The original buttstock slips a bolt through the top of the receiver into a threaded hole on the buttstock. That same hole is threaded in a larger M10x1.5 thread probably for mounting to a machining jig. I used that thread and ran the bolt up from below so you wouldn’t see the head.

I made it in layers so it would be easier. I made a layer as thick as the lug on the back of the receiver and cut it out to fit nicely around the mounting point. Then glued a “cheek” on each side to enclose it as a single piece.
