It’s not even a coherent speech. The only argument she might be making that’s coherent is to further restrict gun ownership is urban centres? Which idk how that even works.

110

u/JE1324 Jun 23 '26

She thinks that our firearms laws are the same as in the US. If you talk to these people thats really what they think, they think in Canada you can walk into Cabelas and buy an AR15. So she knows about things like New York City passing bans etc (unconstitutional I think but that's another discussion) and thinks we have the legal framework to so the same thing in Canada. Again I think the root of the issue is the complete willfull ignorance of the other side.

58

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

What’s really concerning is that she was a liberal MP before. Like straight up so many people know nothing about Canadas laws let alone gun laws it’s utterly ridiculous. It’s funny as I saw a poll all the way back from 2019 and lo and behold the people who most supported more gun control/gun bans were people who never owned a firearm…

35

u/JE1324 Jun 24 '26

I know this is a position we can't argue from really but the shit is SO unfair and it pisses me off so much.

I dont do extreme sports so I would never have an opinion about the government trying to ban certain extreme sports, beyond "why are they doing that", "does it actually make sense?", and "do they have any business doing that?"

We're at the mercy of people who believe whatever they're told.

16

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

Yep. People need to desperately be critical thinkers. By default has always become now if the government wants to do something such as a ban it’s “Okay but why and who is this going to impact?”

4

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

As a younger guy who knows other young people I believe these kinds of people THINK they are critical thinkers because they view conservatives as “the establishment”. “Conservatives are ALL ignorant, unintelligent, racist, homophobic, old people who just don’t know any better, so WE need to educate them on why they are wrong!” is genuinely how a lot of people I am friends with think.

Whenever politics get brought up I just either keep quiet or say I’m a “soft libertarian”.

10

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

That right there is a shitty take to have. As that is unironically some of the least critical thinking skills imaginable. Like seriously? These people can't sit back and even think that "Huh. The two parties that have been in control of Canada over it's entire existence have done very little actually give a shit about Canadians." Like idk what's progressive about the Liberals as the last thing I can think of that they did was progressive was legalize weed. Some people would say "Well what about the dental program?" Which that wasn't even the Liberals. That was the NDP pushing them into doing even that. Because here's the thing. Being progressive should actually mean being progressing the state of your fellow human fucking being to a better plane of existence. You know trying to alleviate suffering via social programs. Not fucking prohibitionist bullshit that does literally nothing to help but sure does hurt a lot of people.

1

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

A few of them genuinely seem to hold conservative views, but they wholeheartedly believe that conservatives will ban women’s rights and gay rights. Like that’s it. That’s their fear. I’ve tried explaining that is literally the dumbest thing the cons could do, but their response is “yeah but what if? I can’t betray my friends”. They would rather never own a home or be able to afford groceries than risk the nonzero chance that they restrict women’s rights or gay rights (which would be political suicide btw)

2

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

I think I saw this one comment where a dude claimed that 30 con MPs want to either restrict abortion access or ban it. Which I was running the math in my head and I thought to myself “If the con party as a whole allowed them to have there little fun by introducing a private members bill but told the rest of the party to vote how they see fit I would bet dollars to donuts they wouldn’t even get a majority of con MPs supporting it.”

4

u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Jun 24 '26

I believe these kinds of people THINK they are critical thinkers because they view conservatives as “the establishment”

And then there's the rest of us, who have recognized that the progressives (who style themselves as the enemy of "conservatives", or "traditionalists" more properly) are themselves the Establishment, and they're exactly the kind of ignorant, unintelligent, racist, heterophobic, old people who just don't know any better that they complained about "conservatives" being. They believe that reversed stupidity is intelligence.

We're only 'conservative' insofar as what 'conservatives' are conserving are liberal principles (they've been around a long time, you see); they lose us once they start back into traditionalism.

26

u/Jaded-Juggernaut-244 Jun 24 '26

You don't know how that even works because no one does. In other words, it doesn't work.

Restricting lawful gun ownership in urban centres is about the lamest and most ill informed take on the realities slapping us all in the face.

Like has been said and proven ad nauseum, legal firearms are not now and have not ever been the majority of firearms used in crime. And, certainly not more than an extremely small fraction of lost or stolen legal firearms are used in the commission of crimes in urban centres. Most crimes involving firearms in urban settings involve smuggled and illegally possessed and obtained handguns.

Very few firearms used in the commission of a crime can actually be traced back to a legal Canadian owner.

Even though bb & pellet guns, airsoft, replicas, toys, gun shaped sticks and anything else they determine to be a "crime gun" will be classified as a "domestic crime gun".

So, anyone with half a brain can see why this subject is such a mess. The stats for so-called "crime guns" are so convoluted and collection standards non-existent that StatsCan has to run a disclaimer on their data. Which essentially means it is wholly unreliable and is only suitable as bird cage liner.

7

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

“You don't know how that even works because no one does. In other words, it doesn't work." Yep.

"Restricting lawful gun ownership in urban centres is about the lamest and most ill informed take on the realities slapping us all in the face." Yep. It's a feel good but does nothing for public safety measure that in reality is impossible to enforce.

"Like has been said and proven ad nauseum, legal firearms are not now and have not ever been the majority of firearms used in crime. And, certainly not more than an extremely small fraction of lost or stolen legal firearms are used in the commission of crimes in urban centres. Most crimes involving firearms in urban settings involve smuggled and illegally possessed and obtained handguns." Correct.

"Very few firearms used in the commission of a crime can actually be traced back to a legal Canadian owner." Yep.

"Even though bb & pellet guns, airsoft, replicas, toys, gun shaped sticks and anything else they determine to be a "crime gun" will be classified as a "domestic crime gun"." Correct and that skews the stats dramatically.

"So, anyone with half a brain can see why this subject is such a mess. The stats for so-called "crime guns" are so convoluted and collection standards non-existent that StatsCan has to run a disclaimer on their data. Which essentially means it is wholly unreliable and is only suitable as bird cage liner." Yep. It's comically unreliable. Maybe in a few cities like Toronto where they can actually do a decent amount of inhouse tracing it's good but every single time it's "Yea so the vast majority of these guns come from the states."

3

u/AJourneyer Jun 24 '26

"only suitable as bird cage liner."

Exactly how I use it, tbh

8

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Jun 24 '26

The only argument she might be making that’s coherent is to further restrict gun ownership is urban centres?

i remember the hot minute trudeau was mulling over doing handgun and rifle bans as a geographic thing. saying he would give cities the power to control what you can legally own in them.

2

u/Jaded-Juggernaut-244 Jun 24 '26

It's only coherent in the fact that you might understand the words dribbling from her mouth. Coherent as a concept? Yeah, it's as coherent as Sunday morning at 2am after all night in the bar Saturday.

u/Mdaumer Jun 23 '26

This makes too much sense for the LPC and for reddit. Guns are bad mmmkay

50

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

What Canadian reddit sub even agrees with the gun bans at this point? As the main sub comment section is always calling it out.

12

u/StalkerRigo Jun 24 '26

onguardforthee would like a word. Those people are more sensitive than antenna couplings

9

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

Looking at the post history 6 years ago I would agree with you but I am pretty sure the tides have turned even in that sub. Two of the more recent posts around guns has had a handful of anti gunners get utterly down voted into oblivion. So honestly even that sub is not so anti gun anymore which is wild.

1

u/StalkerRigo Jun 24 '26

that would be wild indeed

3

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 24 '26

I think in general people who are on Reddit given enough time will read the comment section enough to get a different perspective that they would not see from news articles.

1

u/IGnuGnat Jun 24 '26

/onguardfortheeonlyforaslongasyouagreewithme

a.k.a.

the most un-Canadian sub that has ever existed

26

u/Office_Responsible Jun 24 '26

Onguardforthee sure does. The most delusional crack pots I’ve ever seen frequent that sub

17

u/boozefiend3000 Jun 24 '26

I can’t stand that subreddit

15

u/Office_Responsible Jun 24 '26

I’m banned from that sub Reddit lol

The people on that sub want to import millions of people that hate LGBT too lol

5

Ya. Just clueless

6

u/DoorNational5903 Jun 24 '26

The wrong opinion got me banned...

14

u/AnonCGN178 Jun 24 '26

They should rename onguardforthee to r/ MarkCarneyCirclejerk

9

u/TauntaunExtravaganza Jun 24 '26

I remember the last, less than emotionally put together person that did this, for this reason, not too long ago. They used a van, it was horrific. Nobody's banning Vans.

8

u/Braddock54 Jun 24 '26

It's also a lack of deterrence to commit crime.

3

u/Q-Ball7 In the end, it's taxes all the way down Jun 24 '26

And the people in charge of deterrence are as deadly to the general public as the criminals are.

5

u/cerberus_1 Jun 24 '26

exactly look at the UK and their out of control knife crime.. so what's the plan there? No knifes?

2

u/IGnuGnat Jun 24 '26

Black Knives Matter

2

u/jonf00 Jun 24 '26

Maybe a car like the other incel lunatic in toronto

1

u/Goliad1990 Jun 25 '26

To make it any more tight would be to ban them outright.

In Montreal, yes. That's what she's clearly talking about. One more reason never to cross the eastern border into that hellhole.

258

u/GabRB26DETT Jun 23 '26

Why not ban crimes instead ? The results would be just as effective.

44

u/jcanada22 Jun 23 '26

Genius idea

17

u/Superb_Extension1751 Jun 24 '26

If you ran for PM I'd vote for you

6

u/GabRB26DETT Jun 24 '26

If you ran for PM I'd vote for you

I don't hate myself enough to do that, but I could become Secretary of State for nature and pretty much do as much, isn't that how it works ?

7

u/pahtee_poopa Jun 24 '26

You mean I can still do crime today?! Damn, what am I doing with my life

5

u/Critical_Rule6663 Jun 24 '26

Criminals hate this one simple trick

2

u/Jaded-Juggernaut-244 Jun 24 '26

In fact, that's exactly what it is!!

Firearms are already illegal for anyone not duly authorized by the government. Gun control laws impact lawful gun owners only. Gun bans serve no useful purpose, the government is in effect just banning again something they've already proscribed as illegal to possess without a license. Possession without a license could easily land you in the clink.

Gun bans are nothing but political theatre. Double banning firearms is utterly ridiculous and as effective against crime as has been demonstrated over and over.

1

u/CrudeTrucker 28d ago

What you mean make criminals out of criminals instead of scapegoating law abiding gun owners? You must be one of the tinfoil hat people

216

u/thecoolernameistaken Jun 23 '26

Of course she does. I bet you anything she doesn’t know what it even takes to buy a gun

5

u/Imaginary-Text4690 Jun 24 '26

Obviously not based on the fact she seemed so dumbfounded some one can do that. It’s called they find a gun or steal a gun or go through the troublesome legal process she has no idea about

106

u/Altruistic_Ad_0 Jun 23 '26

I call to start regulating manifestos

26

u/renegade2point0 Jun 23 '26

Cut em off at the root, ban all milk!

6

u/dke783 Jun 24 '26

No, don't ban milk.

Restrict the size of milk containers. Pin the milk cartons to hold no more than five gulps per box.

2

u/JurboVolvo Jun 24 '26

I mean every organized plan is technically a manifesto we just don’t use that word anymore. We just call it Party Platform or something else because manifesto “sounds scary”

3

u/grathontolarsdatarod Jun 23 '26

Uhhhh. They are actually kind of doing that.

82

u/Benefit_Waste Jun 23 '26

gun control does nothing. History has proven it. The more gun control, the more criminals get their hands on shit easier.

44

u/Late_Winner6859 Jun 23 '26

You seem to be erroneously assuming that the purpose of control is YOUR safety

2

u/Benefit_Waste Jun 23 '26

Not at all. Im saying for ALL safety

7

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 24 '26

Not trying to be a contrarian, but I think the key is that poor firearm regulation policy does nothing. That’s a dead on fact.

It’s not an argument for NO regulation, just as much as this tragedy is NOT an argument for more regulation.

So many of these tragedies (and the gun control fallout afterwards) happen because of bureaucrats passing flaccid laws to secure votes and police forces looking the other way due to a lack of resources. Also the needs of the people not being met. And also blind and completely random bad luck. How often do things like this really happen? The answer is very infrequently, like buy a lottery ticket infrequently.

While I think it can be an ignorant argument, there’s stock in questioning why politicians always point to the tool rather than questioning why the perpetrator was able to wield it or why. They didn’t pass laws requiring background checks for vehicle purchases or some other regulation when that driver rammed into a crowd in BC. It’s easy for people to harp on more gun control because guns are scarier and have more emotional impact IMO. People don’t even care to know whether it works after the fact. They just feel safer if they think it’ll help.

2

u/Benefit_Waste Jun 24 '26

not to mention. If there were a lot of more mental facilities to treat the unhealthy and people with other issues a lot of problems could be resolved

Crime, homeless, a lot of stuff would be fixed if we did have those again. Just because they're "clean" doesn't mean they're mentally fixed. Another big issue is that someone had already said is that a lot of the firearms in this country used in crime are mostly smuggled. Just so happened to be an unlucky moment that an SKS was used in this recent shooting.

2

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 24 '26

Yup. Imagine if we just tried to stop crime by attacking its root causes? Crazy concept. Unfortunately that doesn’t fit well into the campaign cycle and isn’t really the instant gratification that retains power in parliament

4

u/HanzG Jun 24 '26

And remember that ALL guns are illegal in Canada. A citizen has no right to firearms here. You must apply for and qualify for a license that temporarily suspends the Crowns ability to prosecute you for having one. You lose that license for any reason you ARE immediately in violation of our laws.

Unless they're holding a PAL they were already breaking the easiest-to-digest firearms law we have; They're illegal.

76

u/Scott-YYC Jun 23 '26

When guns are banned, none of this will ever happen again. Firearms will magically un-invented themselves and will no longer be available, even to the most heinous individuals /s

18

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 23 '26

At the end of the day a gun is just a pipe with one end blocked off. Plenty of videos on YouTube showing people how to build them in an hour with less than $50 worth of parts from the plumbing section

11

u/handen Jun 23 '26

Thanks, Uncle Ted. You've always been there for me with advice about how to use hardware store PVC pipes and you haven't let me down yet.

3

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

You are welcome my child

4

u/Scary-Detail-3206 Jun 24 '26

Or you can just download a file and print a plastic gun if you’re crafty.

3

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

the slam fire gun is even easier. Like so easy you’ll think you’re doing it wrong. It’s literally just a pipe with an end cap with a nail inside end on it.

Do not build one it’s a crime, and I won’t tell you how to build one, but they’re literally all over YouTube and you could build one within an hour.

I’m just bringing it up to show how even the dumbest knuckle draggers can get their hands on a gun to kill someone if they decide that’s their plan, and that gun control literally cannot stop nut jobs from killing propel if they really want to.

103

u/MasterScore8739 Jun 23 '26

Why’s it always strict firearms laws and never actually ENFORCED laws and repercussions?

It’s almost like it’s easier to just say “your brother fucked up and dropped his ice-cream in the car, no nobody can eat anything on a road trip ever again.”

12

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 24 '26

Yeah. They can pass all the laws in the world but it doesn’t matter if they don’t intend to actually enforce them.

Tumbler ridge and Bondi appear to be very recent examples of just that.

10

u/MasterScore8739 Jun 24 '26

That’s kind of my issue with the whole thing.

They continually talk about the laws we need, but never mention the laws we already have. ‘Weirdly’ there’s never any mention of how the current laws don’t work due to lack of enforcement, instead it’s always about how we need more and more.

I’m also expecting Poly to come out with some form of “see how deadly the SKS is!! Nobody needs such a deadly weapon designed and intended for war!”

The funny part, of all the rifles they claim have been designed for war that the average Canadian owns, this would be one of the handful that actually fit their argument… along with other WWI/II era rifles they continually bicker about.

6

u/Dill_Pickle_Tears Jun 24 '26

Yeah, let’s just continuously layer on more bans and more laws and waste money. Worry about enforcing it later lol.

Wish we just went the Finland or Switzerland route. Hell New Zealand even has handguns, AR-15s an asks(chambered in .22), along with real suppressors. Makes way more sense than most of what they’re doing here.

Like…the R9, designed specifically for punching paper, is an illegal weapon of war, but the M1 Garand and SKS are completely fine because they’re old and too cumbersome to use in a mass shooting?

Control guns in the city ... the guy came from ALBERTA ? What will controlling the guns of Montrealers change ? Would it have affected this in ANY way ? Why is it always to go after the law abiding citizen that has nothing to do with these events ...

15

u/Leather-Tour9096 Jun 24 '26

As a hunter that lives in a city this is so dumb. I would have to move and change careers if this was a thing

34

u/DieKastKollector Jun 23 '26

You are punishing the wrong people. Stricter gun laws will not stop criminals from committing crime. We need to crack down on crime and help people with mental health issues

23

u/Top_Importance6216 Jun 23 '26

they know, they dont care.

this is in service of the agenda of making us compliant, not any degree of safety.

3

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

I wonder if they are appealing to emotions/feelings over facts because they want easy votes, or if they genuinely are having an emotional kneejerk reaction. I can understand being emotional and just spouting things that don’t make sense in the heat of the moment. I sometimes wonder if I’m just a cold person.

3

u/Top_Importance6216 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

it can be both.

high IQ people taking advantage of low IQ people.

21

u/newtoabunchofstuff Jun 23 '26

They'd have better results if they dealt with mental health issues and extremism.

What about that incel that ran people down in a sprinter van in Toronto?

What about that guy who had a mental health episode and drove an SUV through a crowd celebrating a Filipino holiday in Vancouver?

I know, let's ban cars! /s

5

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

Have you seen places like r/fuckcars? A lot of people would wholeheartedly support banning SUVs, pickup trucks, and vans. Sedan bans would have a bit less support from these types, but I’m sure a good number would still be in support of that too.

7

u/NuclearMelon23 Jun 23 '26

Don't give them ideas they are dumb enough to do it

16

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 Jun 23 '26

In reference to not sharing the videos, her response was “it desensitizes.” More like sharing the videos it makes it harder to cover up the fact that a cop shot and killed a civilian during the firefight. Yes she was under stress and all that, but you’re trained not to be trigger happy. Surely legal gun owners will pay the price once again.

3

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

I just posted something regarding to that situation. This is coming from discussion at Canada sub so I thought it was a pretty valid point.

Redditor A

Why is no news outlet covering the fact that the only civilian who died was shot by the cop, and then after she killed the guy she ran away screaming.

We need a serious discussion about hiring a real police force in this country. The only thing our police are good for is handing out fines to working class people. They are utterly incompetent at doing anything to protect public safety.

Redditor B I don’t think it is. I very rarely defend police but she’s not really to blame in this instance imo. Did you watch the footage? She had to make a life and death decision in a split second and I’d guess that most people in her position would assume it was the gunman appearing from that angle. Not to mention she just watched her colleague get shot/murdered which obviously raises the stakes.

Redditor A

The key here is “most people”.

She is a trained professional public defendant. If we’re giving people state backing to use lethal force as part of their job description then those people better be vetted and highly qualified.

If we aren’t going to have highly qualified and trained individuals in those roles then we should all have the right to defend ourselves because the state is clearly proving itself to be incompetent and incapable of doing so.

It’s an incredibly serious topic and not one that should be brushed aside because “she panicked in a life and death situation”. When doctors, or pilots, or rescue teams panic and make the wrong decision they are still heald accountable for their actions.

Redditor B Fair enough. I agree with your points here but I do believe we all already have the right to defend ourselves.

16

u/Blood-Wolfe Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26

Our gun control laws aren't the problem. The gun buyback scam is the problem because it goes after law abiding citizens instead of putting that money to fighting real criminals and the source of the illegal guns criminals use. Go after the source, not the law abiding citizens while criminals get slaps on the wrist and so on.

Also, are we going to ban knives, vehicles, baseball bats, hammers, and so on? Because anyone can use those to inflict the same or worse damage as well. The problem isn't guns, it's the wrong people with guns and those guns come illegally smuggled across the border from the US. Let's start locking up criminals and not allowing them to become repeat offenders, etc.

Stop pandering to the gun control nut jobs and targetting law abiding citizens in the wake of this tragedy. Just like Nova Scotia that started this waste of time, coming after law abiding citizens doesn't prevent gun crime. In the NS shooters case our system worked. He tried for a PAL and was denied. It was the system beyond that which failed because the guns he aquired were smuggled illegally from the US.

So that said, no government will be stealing my lawful and legal aquired property! Especially when criminals are running rampant on our streets across the entire country! I will be keeping mine handy to stop any intruders so I can protect my family. So until criminals are taken care, stop coming after us you ignorant woke leftist communist loving idiots. It won't fix the problem and police forces and experts using STATISTICS AND FACTS have tried to explain this to you countless times!

Also, it wasn't a law abiding gun owner who killed the innocent civilian, it was a police officer! I don't care how hectic that situation is, they train for this and that officer failed and took an innocent life. That officer is a disgrace to the uniform.

5

u/MapleBaconBeer Jun 24 '26

Have they announced if this piece of trash had a valid PAL? Also I'm willing to bet $100 that the SKS he used wasn't "smuggled illegally from the US".

2

u/Joeyjackhammer Jun 24 '26

The US hasn’t been able to import new SKSs for decades so you better give good odds

15

u/LordGopu qb Jun 23 '26

We need stricter mayor control so we don't get things like this.

38

u/ThrowRA_That_Owl_25 Jun 23 '26

Are they talking about a cop shooting an unarmed civilian? Sure do need to control who they issue side-arms.

9

u/Uncle_Ted_1942 Jun 24 '26

They’ll investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing just like when they shot up the firehall in Stewiacke.

9

u/uber_poutine Jun 23 '26

There's a very reasonable argument to be made that all cops should be issued with a PCC or a carbine pistol shell instead of a pistol. Muzzle control and effective marksmanship is inherently much more difficult for pistols.

22

u/FreedomCanuck556 Jun 23 '26

Yaaaaa that was not a marksmanship issue. She hit exactly what she was aiming for, perfect headshot. To bad it was a random civilian.

5

u/ThrowRA_That_Owl_25 Jun 23 '26

Nothing to do with poor marksmanship. She intended to shoot that civilian. I'd recommend better training but regardless, she is responsible for all discharges.

4

u/Joeyjackhammer Jun 24 '26

*she intended to shoot her target that came from the incoming fire, poked his head around the corner and happened to be an unarmed, innocent civilian.

Just had to add that. I find it plausible an officer that’s been shot or shot at and just watched their partner die to become defensive of anyone approaching from that direction. Still responsible for every projectile they let loose, though.

2

u/gspotcowboy Jun 24 '26

She intended to shoot that civilian

Dude wtf?

1

u/Joeyjackhammer Jun 24 '26

Their long gun would’ve been in the car and they were pinned down. Same would’ve happened with a PCC; they can’t carry those all day.

12

u/Big-Guitar-1979 Jun 23 '26

If Canada completely banned all firearms and a shooting still happened, who would she blame then?

5

u/Dependent_Account603 Jun 23 '26

These liberals think people would become peace loving hippies only if they didn't have access to guns

12

u/Many-Presentation-56 Jun 23 '26

Ofc more fear mongering, as the government rams through more surveillance censorship law. Canadians deserves exactly whats coming to them from this government they voted for

10

u/Canadian-AML-Guy Jun 23 '26

I'm sure if the shooter had a bolt/pump/lever the results would have been exactly the same. If they had used a van or knife, it might have been worse.

Let's keep arbitrarily banning guns instead of investing in de-radicalization programs, divergence programs, and mental health supports. That will certainly solve the problem and not simply shift the means of attack.

11

u/AdAgreeable6192 Jun 24 '26

I love when people call for emotional gun laws. When all the guns are gone, and people start using hammers, there will be emotional hammer laws. Why don’t we deal in facts and not emotions.

9

u/rastamasta45 Jun 24 '26

That’s not a joke, lawmakers in Britain were calling for banning pointed knives and only allowing rounded knives in the country. They also banned “ninja swords” the law specifically calls out ninja swords.

3

u/AdAgreeable6192 Jun 24 '26

I’ve had this argument a few times with HR over the years. Anything can be a weapon. You can’t ban screwdrivers because they can be used a weapons. You can’t ban writing utensils for the same reason. It’s not the objects fault if someone uses it for something other then it’s original purpose.

That said, guns I imagine were originally designed to kill man. But 99.9% of the registered owners are law abiding citizens. I think the better way of going about this is to target people that write 105 page manifestos on the internet. But what do I know? Just ban the guns. I promise you, if every gun in Canada was to disappear, we’d still have manifestos being written, and people will still die.

We gotta stop leaving people behind. We need radical reform on spending, a strong economy, and people living well. There’s so much I want to say, but with our current climate, no one’s listening, and no one seems to care.

18

u/SocksOfDeath Jun 23 '26

Can’t really get much more strict. Even if they outright banned all guns the criminals and mentally unstable would find a way to harm others. The perpetrator of this last attack probably would have just driven through a few bus stops if they couldn’t access a firearm.

10

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

To anyone who says “But it would have made it harder.” This mf was willing to go most likely by driving from Alberta to Montreal. If he was determined enough to drive what takes over a days worth of time what’s stopping him from making a homemade gun? Or finding one on the black market? Or making a homemade bomb? Like while bro was unstable he clearly was determined. Which never underestimate the determination of the unstable. Meth addicts have been known to make their own guns.

3

u/Dependent_Account603 Jun 23 '26

Exactly If you can't be trusted with a gun, neither can you be trusted with a car, or a can of gas. You should be locked up

1

u/Goliad1990 29d ago

Even if they outright banned all guns the criminals and mentally unstable would find a way to harm others.

Confiscating the guns is not the means, it's the end. I'm consistently surprised how many people still don't realize that the political class doesn't care whether it has any effect on pleb-on-pleb violence. That's not what they're trying to prevent.

17

u/Ancient_Tap_130 Jun 23 '26

Well, she's a former Trudeau MP ... so I mean 💁

10

u/yummybunnybear Jun 24 '26

Maybe this is becoming a Montreal problem.

15

u/julienjj Jun 23 '26

LOL.

I bet she would fail 0/10 a quick test on current permit laws.

We’re not the USA.

7

u/hunterofsteelhead Jun 23 '26

She should be calling for better police. Ones that dont shoot innocent fathers

7

u/houstonman526 Jun 24 '26

This is how the liberals take your guns 101 y’all just keep giving them an inch now your precious sks are gonna be gone.

8

u/Thereal_Stormm006 Jun 24 '26

Gun control advocates are idiots. They are their own worst enemy.

7

u/Feeling-Water-6824 Jun 24 '26

Still paying the price for something that happened 37 years ago. A Liberal MP turned Mayor who seizes on an opportunity to push for more bans and always references Poly. Bans don’t work. Need to address root causes.

14

u/WeightedDips95 Jun 23 '26

Cop: kills civilian

Brain dead Liberal: “give us your guns pleb!”

The goal is total civilian disarmament. They’ll use anything to further this, even when it doesn’t make sense- because they know most Canadians aren’t smart or paying attention.

64

u/boozefiend3000 Jun 23 '26

Quebec sure ruins everything

14

u/Only-Health-6557 Jun 23 '26

But the shooter was Albertan 🤔.

30

u/noveltyisthe Jun 23 '26

But he came to Quebec because he had a beef with MindGeek The pornography empire, for ruining his sad life…definitely an off the rocks mental case exception. We need mental health reform and not gun control for legal hunters rifles.

28

u/boozefiend3000 Jun 23 '26

The mayor calling for more gun control isn’t

19

u/AddressFeeling3368 Jun 23 '26

"Albertan" with a communist manifesto.

Nah we’re good.

6

u/pooshlinger Jun 24 '26

I havent read a single article that mentions how the civilian was shot…

7

u/NotALanguageModel Jun 24 '26

She's never been the brightest bulb, so I'm not surprised she thinks gun control is the issue.

16

u/Br7ian Jun 23 '26

Ban all the guns you want in Montreal. Each province should manage their own licensing. The rest of Canada would like to stay out of your anti gun rhetoric. Thank you very much.

6

u/HanzG Jun 24 '26

Nope. That's divide and conquer. Point to Chicago - super strict gun laws and 8 murders a week.

I've said it before; Eliminate the guns and you still have a crime problem. Eliminate the crime and you no longer have a gun problem. That eliminate is try to stem the source with better support programs for vunerable & PROPER application of detention. None of this "you had a bad life, so we'll forgive you this one stabbing". You came here, you stabbed someone. What would happen to you if you stabbed someone in your home country? That's right.... so either deport (with DNA recording) or jail.

1

u/Goliad1990 Jun 25 '26

Nope. That's divide and conquer.

The alternative is Quebec style gun laws everywhere, and that's what we've been getting.

You have two practical options: let Quebec do their own thing or allow their outsized influence to bring us all down. The government doesn't give a shit about your attempts to get at the root of the issue.

4

u/oatest Jun 23 '26

It's frighteningly stupid to think that shootings are something that a municipality can address  Also her thoughts that a shooting in Montreal means it's a Montreal gun. It's very sad to see the aftermath is tended by those completely incapable of even framing the problem in a logical manner. It's a gross insult to this who have died.

4

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 23 '26

Shooter came from Alberta…. but somehow it’s a Montreal gun…

5

u/Patient_Fondant_1450 Jun 23 '26

One person was killed by a police, no? .

2

u/Beautiful-Check7836 Jun 24 '26

Correct, the police killed half the victims. Better start deflecting blame ASAP..

5

u/ZJC2000 Jun 23 '26

We need stricter criminal control.

5

u/cumbrad Jun 24 '26

soraya’s a total retard

5

u/GreenCactus223 Jun 24 '26

So instead of swinging one way why cant we swing the other way and say let's arm the citizens?

5

u/dirkdiggler2011 Jun 24 '26

If you showed her the current rules and asked if these changes were strong, she would say yes.

5

u/Slowisfast_2021 Jun 24 '26

Rotten disgusting politicians who are enabled by gullible populace. They have no morals or integrity whatsoever and will not stop until they ruin Canada forever.

5

u/Dear-Let-1075 Jun 24 '26

Just an emotional speech. We don’t need strict gun control. Just strict crime control as well as better mental health care. If they want to talk about how to fix things. Gun control is not a solution. It is a problem.

13

u/FreonJunkie96 Jun 23 '26

4

u/CalibreMag Jun 23 '26

It's not a well-known fact, but the governments of Montreal & Quebec are inextricably linked to Canada's anti-gun lobbies in real, financial ways.

Heidi Rathjen, who now heads up Polysesouvient (formerly of Coalition for Gun Control), used to lobby the Quebec government for stricter tobacco controls as part of her job with the Coalition for Tobacco Control, and was eventually awarded a severance package from the very people she was lobbying (the Quebec Ministry of Health). This is obviously highly irregular and warranted contemporary media coverage: https://t.co/iucFSxWqZx

Furthermore, the Coalition for Gun Control, the group she was with before jumping into Polysesouvient to take over for Nathalie Provost, operates from a Montreal Public Health office. They have since removed reference to the Montreal office, but it can still be found on the web, and if you call the number listed in Montreal you'll reach an office switchboard for the Montreal Public Health office located at the same address as CGC used to list on their website.

Finally, the federal Gun and Gang Violence Action Fund has provided huge sums of money to Quebec; second only to the amount received by Ontario and vastly more than provinces experiencing much higher rates of gun- and gang-related violence, as indicated by the Horizontal Evaluation of the Initiative to Take Action Against Gun and Gang Violence. This program provides hundreds of millions, effectively, to municipal governments who in turn award it to entities, programs, or efforts that they identify as combatting gun- and gang-violence. The final recipients are unknown to the federal government and only accessible through public releases or parsing whatever insanely convoluted municipal documents are available - which in the case of Montreal, in my experience, has been exactly zero. But after years of digging into this, I can definitively say that there's a better-than-even chance at least some of this money was diverted directly to anti-gun lobby groups, given other cities that I have been able to get documentation on did things like fund marginally existent youth rugby programs and university-led research programs around gun policy.

4

u/redjohn79 Jun 24 '26

So stupid. Just ban crime, then none of this would happen. /s

4

u/Beautiful-Check7836 Jun 24 '26

She should focus on training her police officers.

4

u/No-Night-48 Jun 24 '26

Mental health crisis. Ban our guns, ban our vehicles for being used in mass killings, ban knives since they've been used in mass killings, ban bulldozers for being used in mass killings, guess what? Mass killings still happen. People are broke, people have no hope, people panic, people lose all emotional control.

3

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

Just replied to one of the comments, so thought to mention it here again.

This is coming from one do the comments in Canada sub.

Montreal already have issues with gang related gun crime, and it doesn't seem to going anywhere to say the least when it comes to public safety.

It's nothing short of an emotion speech when the Montreal mayor said tighter gun control, which sounds like someone who didn't know how gun laws works in Canada and process of getting there. And what has been happening since 2020 to 2025 OIC.

If someone is dedicated enough, it would need to be SKS, or bolt action, or shotgun. Even vehicles will do if that's their ill intent. But of course, let's do anything but address the elephant in the room. There are literally so many things that need to be fixed now in Canada that we are well behind.

Of course, hearing that she was an ex Liberal MP, and it doesn't surprise me much that will be her solution.

5

u/blyatboy Jun 24 '26

Wasn’t the only bystander death from a cop, the only person who “should” be armed according to these people?

4

u/R3NAM3R123 Jun 24 '26

How is that coherent when the shooter came from another province? It’s not like he was a Montreal native.

3

u/604WORLDWIDE Jun 24 '26

More laws won’t make people who don’t follow laws start to follow them. It’s only punishing already law abiding people.

It’s like punishing a kid that studied and got a high test score in school because another kid cheated on the test and still managed to fail. It’s absurd

3

u/Stryker1-1 Jun 24 '26

At least the article called the sks a long gun and not an assault style firearm.

As for the rest of it the article reads like someone who has no idea what she is talking about but felt the need to comment regardless.

We can go further. This tells me she has no idea what "further" means.

3

u/Assistant-Exciting Jun 24 '26

So... She calls for more collective punishment of innocent gun owners... For the crimes of the mentally ill?

Sounds about right in modern day Canada, punish the innocent as well for the crimes of the guilty.

8

u/Office_Responsible Jun 23 '26

Yah, better gun control, ie not shooting an unarmed man. Yes, cops this is about you.

The rest of us who don’t shoot unarmed people, please leave us the fuck alone. Thanks

3

u/jay370gt Jun 24 '26

This is probably a stupid idea. But if I were the person filming, there’s a non zero chance I could’ve taken out the perp with my gun from the window before anyone was killed, and phoned it in. But then I’d most likely get arrested and charged. 🤷🏻‍♂️

3

u/rastamasta45 Jun 24 '26

Especially in Quebec. They’ll make an example of you because they don’t like the idea that Canadian can defend themselves

3

u/itsmeAG32 Jun 24 '26

Where is Poly ? How come they haven’t said anything ?

3

u/Admirable-Site7256 Jun 24 '26

Ofc she does. Once again, the focus will be on the guns and not the ongoing mental health crisis that inspired a man to write a huge manifesto and then drive across the goddamn country to kill people. Part of me actually wants the Liberals to try and use yet another tragedy to push their disarmament agenda so the country can continue to see their true colours.

3

u/CanadianGunNoob Jun 24 '26

We sure do, the police need to be able to control their firearms effectively. This involves identifying their target and hitting it.

3

u/BulltacTV Jun 25 '26

I am having such a hard time not going down a rabbit hole on this whole thing. Dude travels across the country to THE epicentre of emotion based anti-gun rhetoric and the province with the most federal leverage. Writes a manifesto, uses an SKS, targets law enforcement seemingly for no logical reason... it seems like a known playbook at this point.

I dunno man.. everything about this seems purpose built to stoke support for the gun grab within key activist demographics.

7

u/AnonCGN178 Jun 23 '26

Fuck Montreal, is there anything Quebec won't ruin?

5

u/boozefiend3000 Jun 24 '26

Liberal party election results

9

u/AlonzoMosely88 Jun 23 '26

This whole ordeal is a charade set up by the government, so they have a convenient excuse to ban everything. Of course they would set it all up to happen in Quebec.

7

u/dgod40 Jun 23 '26

Mustve been another licensed gun owner shooting shit up

4

They haven't released any info yet so we don't know if he was licensed or not.

4

u/Reelair Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

Either way you look at it, it's not good. It had a pinned mag (according to reports), so it came from a legal source.

1

u/iHaVocxT Jun 23 '26

It did NOT have a pinned magazine - in the video you can clearly hear 10 distinct sks shots in a row, and the shooter was using stripper cllips

1

u/Reelair Jun 24 '26

I heard the video was hard to watch. Not something I want to see.

2

u/ah9116 Jun 24 '26

Yeah anything but may be, just may be crack down on the crazies and of course repeal the bail reform

2

u/Specific-Path3179 Jun 24 '26

What's insane is it's theoretically possible to make a software that reliably identifies the location of all police officers 24/7, like a Flock/Palantir stack but open source and accessible to everyone. This includes unmarked, plainclothes, undercover, etc.

2

u/xman_111 Jun 24 '26

of course she did.

2

u/KalashnikovParty Jun 24 '26

do these people seriously not realize that in the wake of our unstable society there will always be mentally ill people who just want to unalive innocents? banning guns won’t do anything. Even if you ban all guns they can just pull a van attack like the toronto guy did. What are you gonna do after? ban vans? Mass stabbing is are also gonna occur you gonna ban those too? What if after all that they make a makeshift weapon using a nail and board?

2

u/baedriaan Jun 24 '26

We all knew what was coming.

2

u/serpentman Jun 24 '26

Police training is the issue here.

2

u/MIIICH4EL Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

These all registered firearm crimes?

2

u/WasabiSandwich Jun 24 '26

Ban incels, it’ll be more productive

2

u/Not-a-Cranky-Panda Jun 24 '26

Just make Murder illegal, I'm a little shocked they have not do this before.

2

u/Saucy__Intruder Jun 24 '26

How about better training and equipment for police officers? If the officer who was killed by the shooter had been wearing ceramic plates instead of soft armor, he'd still be alive. If the officer who shot the rabbi had known enough to not crowd her cover, she would have seen the civilian before he was on top of her.

2

u/No-culture5942 Jun 24 '26

I mean technically, the police killed more people than the shooter that day. Shooter killed an officer, the police killed a civilian and the shooter.

2

u/IGnuGnat Jun 24 '26

I'm waiting for the Liberals to discover air rifles, so that they can make a new law banning peaceful citizens from possessing air, because clearly air can be used to power a weapon of war and is therefor very dangerous.

2

u/DoorNational5903 Jun 24 '26

Record food bank usage... economy not doing well...

let's put our money where it will actually help...

2

u/vroflraptor Jun 25 '26

Sounds like we need a massive reform regarding all laws surrounding murder. Sure, it’s already illegal, but we need to make it MORE illegal. Then, and ONLY then, will people stop doing it.

2

u/Vahuo89 Jun 25 '26

of course, it's standard operating procedure for em.

I do wonder though, when guns are all banned in canada, what they will call for at that point. Because i doubt they have any other ideas

4

u/drakkosquest Jun 24 '26

You want to solve gun crime in Canada?

Start enforcing the laws already on the books.

And add a couple.

Gangsters who are caught in breach of firearms laws and all associated family members are immediately deported. Literally on a flight the same day.

Associates of that family are pemantly banned from endorsing further immigration. Whether that be immediate family, family friends or immigration lawyer of firm.

Contribute to the problem, you're done. No Ifs, ands or buts.

For domestic and "Canadian" infringement, add a social media screen to all PAL applicants. You want to weed out the baddies, that would be a great place to start.

In addition, for domestic and "home grown" issues, add the social media screen to PAL renewal. In addition, firearms infractions however minor are then subject to media screens.

Your internet privacy is only as good as your intentions.

Obviously, some parameters would need to be in place to ensure freedom of expression, however...that freedom does not alleviate you from the freedom of consequences.

And honestly .. Fuck any of you that think that a shooting spree is going to solve anything besides fucking the test of us over. Whatever your political gripe might be, your slowly killing off the honest and hardworking among you

So fuck this guy. Fuck any dipshit that thinks this shit is cool.

Glove thrown.

At the arches 12 noon.

2

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

Montreal already have issues with gun related crime with gangs last time I check. I think few months ago there were a lot of shooting in some neighborhoods.

2

u/drakkosquest Jun 24 '26

Thabks bud.

All urban centers have shooting problems.

The ACTUAL problem is that only politically expedient shootings are reported.

Thus an uninformed electorate.

Thus an uninformed party in power

Thus..the less freedom we have as individuals.

2

u/GinnAdvent Jun 24 '26

Yeah, I am really tired of this we are doing this for your own good schtick.

I just feel many of policies are basically lip service with no substance, and many people still think that everything is alright because of MSM.

It is not a Montreal problem, it's definitely a Canada problem, and it won't be solved by "tighter gun control" that's for sure.

Didn't they also have racism concerns with Montreal police force awhile ago? I guess the mayor is hoping that this tragedy will bury over that issue?

1

u/Nilotaus Jun 26 '26

If you can't see social media screening being used against you, you're just as dumb as the liberals. I myself got a reddit warning for speaking in a similar manner as yours and it will be no different if it was the government doing it compared to a corporate entity except for life being immensely harder if the government doesn't like what you have said, you only have to look towards the EU for pertinent examples.

It's the same thing the LPC is trying to push with bills C-2, C-8, C-22 & C-34, except it'll be targetted towards you simply for having gone through the firearms safety course and getting licensed. As for how effective it would be, the united states has done the exact same shit with the patriot bill & that has done pretty much fuck-all.

2

u/CrudeTrucker Jun 23 '26
