Feets / Collection / My build Prohibited Rifles of the Global War on Terror (GWOT)d

Today as a follow-up to Assault Rifles of the Cold War years and up to the turn of the Century, I offer up a selection of the major designs that came to market during the GWOT. Some of these designs have certainly fared better than others, but part of that is failed marketing as much as it is bad design philosophy and/or execution. It is worth noting the rise of the short-stroke piston rifle/carbine operating system during this period, led by the HK 416, but also including the ACR, APC223, MCX and Bren 2. In chronological order, here some of the major designs of the GWOT....

Fabrique Nationale FS2000 (2000-2014)

Heckler & Koch 416 / MR223 (2005-Present)

Israeli Weapon Industries X95 (2009-Present)

Bushmaster Adaptive Combat Rifle (ACR) (2010-2020)

Brugger & Thomet Advanced Police Carbine 5.56mm (APC556) (2011-Present)

Colt USA Law Enforcement Model 901 (LE-901) (2012-2015, successor takes over)

SIG Multi-Caliber Exchange (MCX) Patrol (2015-2017, successor Virtus takes over)

Ceska Zbrojovka Bren 2 (2015-Present)

The era of short stroke piston, short barrel length and short range calibers

The average rifleman doesn’t need more than a 5.56

Those would all be great at shooting pop cans.

Thank goodness there’s a secretary that thinks they’re a public safety minister going out of their way to protect the rights of pop cans and gophers. /s

Back in the day you could also get a third version of the PAL, the Prohibited PAL, which had various extras on such as permissions to own full auto, converted autos to semi etc. So if these firearms were from that era, they’re still legal to own with those who have the old Prohibited PAL.

If those were modern semi auto civilian versions, they were in circulation on a regular non-restricted or restricted Pal, until our govt when crazy a few years ago and banned all the cool legal guns because some asshole used 5 illegally acquired ones to go on a mass shooting

Edit: so instead of cracking down on “gee where did these illegal guns come from, let’s fix that,” the govt went “let’s just round up all of legal gun owners guns to make it look like we’re doing something”

We could have them up until a couple years ago. Now they all sit in our lockers unused.

So you can just have them if you got them before? But you cant do anything with them.

Government keeps extending the date for when they need to be destroyed, they’ll probably do this indefinitely so they don’t have to pay anyone compensation or pay police departments to confiscate. So yeah currently the guns are only allowed to sit in our house, it’d be illegal to take them outside.

That's about the extent of it right now. Barring the government has some kind of awakening and decides to roll everything back to pre-2020 times when we could use everything again or the Supreme Court of Canada case fighting this (which won't likely have a ruling before like mid 2027) results in the order in councils that made it this way null and void thusly undoing it and restoring it to basically pre-2020.

Which sucks because by then we've been sitting on some of these for almost a decade with no ability to legally use them despite being some of the most vetted citizens and criminals have been largely uninhibited by these bans.

In addition to that, if you are licensed to own a pistol (restricted license) and already have one, you can keep it and use it.

But they froze the transfer of ownership of pistols, so even if you get the license now (I did), you can't legally acquire a pistol.

A business firearms license can allow for prohibs / full auto.

2

u/ShellrockHomeless Jun 22 '26

So you can get bussines firearms license and then get around the ban

Sure, if you can get a business firearms license. It's not exactly as simple as filling out a form though. Obviously the first requirement you'll need to meet is do you have a firearms business....

And even then….

They’re loathe to issue new business licences with the prohib endorsement

This particular collection belongs to someone with a license for prohibited firearms. Most of these guns became prohibited in the early 90’s and at that time if you owned one and registered it then you got a special license class for as long as you maintained your license. Same thing happened in 1978 with full autos. People that still hold those special licenses can also buy and sell these prohibited firearms amongst themselves.

Since 2005 it’s no longer possible to get approval to transport prohibited firearms to a range to shoot them, so for those who still possess them they just stay locked up.

You ask me, it's just the rich disarming us before the AI revolution. Scholars have already explained to them that legal gun owners aren't the threat. Otherwise, they'd have to disarm us of vehicles since they've also been used in a variety of mass killings.

How dare you register with the gov't to safely hold these baby killing rifles. Don't you know that I am not a duck or a gopher or a pop can? By owning these you clearly want to kill babies
