Buy recommendations Scope suggestions for ruger American gen 2 308 16”
Wondering if an lpvo would be good just using for target shooting setup for short to medium distance don’t think I will shoot to far out with it

I think so. I'd probably want more than a 1-4 on it, as a 308 can get much further out.
If not an lpvo, a 2-7 would give you great flexibility. 2x would still be really quick.
If lpvo, at least a 1-6, maybe a 1.5-6 if it's cheaper.
If you got the money, getting something more like a 1-8 or a 1-10 sounds lovely. A bit out of my price range personally, but I'm also a cheapskate when it comes to glass.
I personally have a 4-12 scope on my 308. Even 4x ain't bad for shooting, but it's definitely not as quick up close as a 1x or 2x. Probably not what you want for a short to medium range.
I have a 3-9 scope on my 22. 3x is still good and quick at 50 meters, but you probably want something a bit quicker to aim.
I have a 1-4 on my 7.62z39 bolt action. It's really quick, especially at low magnification. But at 4x it's a bit picky. So I'd suggest getting something with mote magnification.

Yea I also have a 1-6 on my 7.62 cz trail seems like enough magnification

I ran a 1-10x28 SLX on mine before I got goofy and swapped to a 3-18x50 MPED and a canted dot. It worked great!

I'm no stranger to goofy..... recently I tried to actually cant the whole lpvo off to the left like it was an offset scope on a Mosin. For the sole purpose of letting me use irons as well. It actually worked, but felt a bit silly when the whole point of my lpvo is to be able to turn it to 1x and have near red dot performance. It did surprise me how well it worked. Minimal head adjustment
I gotta ask for your red dot, where did you put it on the rail? My brain seems confused as a right side canted dot might get in the way of working the bolt? Or is it far enough down the rail that it's fine?

It works pretty well! I can easily ring a going at 100 with it, but I have it zeroed at 75yd. It lets me take snap shots at close range with good accuracy while the 3-18 does the rest.
The LAM works awesome too, but I remove that for hunting season to be in compliance with regs.

Oh that looks good! That placement makes a lot of sense!
Also, side note, any news on the Tanker mags for the Trail?

They're pretty much done, but I'm still waiting on the CFO/CFP to confirm in writing that they're not going to throw a fit if I start selling them :) once I get that I'll spool'em up. They move at a glacial pace, though, it seems.

How far is 'medium distance'?
100 yards? 200?
Also what's your budget

Prob max range I would be taking shots is like 300yards, its the longest range near me

Vortex strike eagle 1-10x24 should be good at 50m and at 200+

I had my eye on one of these for my Taipan that currently is rocking a 2-7x. The new FFP ones seem decent over the older strike eagles

What do you consider "short to medium distance"? Surely you're not pulling out a 308 rifle to shoot 25m right?
Assuming something more like 50-200 yards, I'd suggest something like a 4-12 or 4-16. Something like a Vortex Diamondback Tactical.

Well I want it to be setup to be able to take shots up close at 25m as well as out to about 300 ish

Then I would definitely recommend a 4-16x44 like the Vortex Diamondback Tactical.
You can absolutely engage targets at 25m with a 4x scope, and you'll definitely want more than 6-8x for targets at 300m - 12x or 16x is the lowest power I'd recommend for a bolt-action rifle for 300m. Anything less than that and you're unnecessarily handicapping yourself.

The vortex venom 1-6 with mount package might be what youre looking for
