There are so many good choices!
What kind of shooting do you like to do? I see you hunt. Do you plink as well? Bench shoot?

Its a perfect first gun. Levers never get boring to shoot, are still practical, and ammo is dirt cheap.
And because its not a semi you can use subsonic rounds reliably, which is nice for plinking.
The only problem with Levers is youll want more of them, and there's no such thing as a cheap Lever

And if you have a lever, well of course you need a 30-30, just because.
Then you start to get an itch about big bores, so you get one, and then it's just all over, no saving you.
Big bores are so much fun, but most of the shooting I do with mine are plinking loads. So much cheaper, so much less painful.
I've started a few people, their first shot was with a big bore lever gun with a plinking load. Lots of fun with no pain. When they ask to shoot a "big" gun, just slip in a full power load. The wide-eyed look afterwards is definitely worth the price of admission!

I love my .45 lever. +P loads are damn near .45-70 velocity, and cowboy loads are dirt cheap.

Good choice. Good value and reliable. 3 friends of mine went out and bought one after shooting mine. Add a Big Boy in .357 later on and you've got a great collection started.

Everyone i know only want big caliber and 12 gauge shotguns. So i was scared it might be a bad decision but i do enjoy not using my whole paycheck for ammo.

So the big question is: When are you going shooting? Let us know how you like it. .22 is affordable fun and running a lever action always seems to bring smiles.

Welcome to the party!
Be proud of it, its yours and its a great pew pew. Sure we all wish we could dump thousands of dollars into the coolest things but hey " In this economy?! " besides, its more about your practice and discipline for the sport. I can out shoot guys with my little Cooey.
Heres a funny story. ive personally watched a guy with a $15,000 set up of a 50 cal load rounds backwards into the magazine then try and beat the mag into the firearm. So lesson is money doesnt mean shit.

Lmao while ive never shot. I am quite the gun nerd. Im a sucker for historical firearms. Been watching gun jesus for years. I like to think i know guns lol hopefully i can afford other ones especially surplus ones eventually.

Awesome choice ! Me and my father have about 30 firearms combined old and new but the Henry .22 is a classic and is always tons of fun to shoot ! Cheap and extremely reliable . Now but some steel and make them ring ! That’s if you have the land to do so . Enjoy brother !

I have that one as well as the mares leg and a golden boy. Great little rifles. We cant always be shooting expensive ammo.

Its unfortunate that most of the 9mm and 223 SAs are gone. 9mm is less than 30 cents each but in way more fun.

Henry lever guns are always 10/10 in my world. Good choice, you'll enjoy the daylights out of.

It's a dope place to start man. Lever action .22lr's are fun as hell. If you want an incremental step you should look into a ruger 10/22. I threw a binary trigger on mine and it makes it fun as hell to plink with.

My brother want to go duck hunting so some sort of shotgun. Im a big fan of the classics so maybe a side-by-side.

I probably went backwards and got a 12 GA shotgun for hunting small game/ shooting clays.
I think a 22 will likely be my next purchase. Seeing some ridiculous builds here so I will have to do my research. SKS looks interesting but will likely just get a ruger LR

SKS was my first choice specially since they are talking about banning it. But id like a genuine russian one and those aren't cheap.

I'll never ever say anything bad about a Henry 22. Great, great gun. If you want to modernize it ranger point precision do an outstanding hand guard for it that mske it look awesome. It's a great choice for a first gun.

I have one of the same. Was my second rifle. I suggest taking a look at scopes for it- it’s an exceptionally fun rifle to shoot at a distance

Its a henry .22 (h001) i wanted something fun to get used to shooting and that i could also use for small game hunting. What do yall think?
