Misc 6.5 creedmoor + PEAK
Now that federal has released the 6.5 creedmoor +PEAK with claimed 300 fps increase through a 24 inch barrel, does this change your opinion on the terminal effect of 6.5cm at longer ranges? Considering that the new +PEAK 6.5 cm is hitting the 6.5 prc range of velocity, would you choose 6.5cm or would you still want the more proven cartridge when hunting big game at longer ranges? I've seen plenty of videos on YouTube of people dropping bull elk with 6.5 prc at 500+ yards. I assume 6.5cm +PEAK with a similar or slightly higher velocity as 6.5prc, is going to perform as well or better and have similar terminal effects down range. This leads me to believe that 6.5cm+PEAK is going to be the new .264 king. What do you think?

Quite possibly. I’ll be curious once the new ammo gets out in the wild if the accuracy is as good as brass cased stuff as typically accuracy degrades a little when you start pushing brass cases. That said getting 6.5 PRC performance with less recoil and more rounds in the mag seems like a win-win.

Can't hunt with .308 where I live.. .264 is completely fine though.

.. Whaaaaaat?! I've never heard of 308 specifically being banned, outside of rimfire/shotgun only areas. Tell me more, cuz that sounds crazy to me, had no clue this was a thing.

Small Game Restrictions: If you are hunting small game (like foxes or coyotes) in specific Southern Ontario counties, you cannot use a rifle greater than .275 caliber.Affected Areas: Brant, Chatham-Kent, Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton, Hamilton, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk, Northumberland, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo, Wellington, or York.Exceptions: Muzzle-loading guns are exempt from this maximum caliber restriction.

I hunt coyotes, I would normally just use .223, but the government says my rifle is a weapon of war and has no sporting or hunting purpose 🤔 lol. I can blast coyotes with 6.5cm and also take it to the hunt camp up north and bag a whitetail. Kind of a do all versatile caliber for my needs.

Yeah for sure brother, I understand. I was just being cheeky with my first reply, I don't actually hate on any caliber really except 21 Sharp, that one is just retarded.
. 6.5cm has become super popular, I've never shot it though, but it's cool to see manufacturers push the boundaries of what it can do.

Going off on r/Hunting thinks that anything sub 30.06 and not a Tikka T3 topped with a Cabelas Fudge scented Vortex is shockingly unethical and should be banned, this changes absolutely nothing in the average hunters mind.
Personally I think it’s neat, but I’ll stick to my normal 6.5 Creedmoor as I think a 24” barrel belongs on a target range and not in the bush. I’ve never needed more than factory on moose or elk either.

Well they will hate me lol I'm sighted in with 140gr S&B soft points lol the cheapest of cheap. My rifle is the savage axis 2, we know the snobs hate the axis because it puts their 3k rifle to shame in accuracy and cost $500.00. I do have a poverty tier ffp vortex diamondback so they might like that but those people mostly hate me and my budget boom stick

Ok Mr.Trust Fund, I’ve been making do with a Bushnell topped Mossberg Patriot, call it The Garbage Rod.
Joking aside we’ve ran those same S&B 140s in four different Creedmoors and they’ve all shot decent, none has shot them exceptionally well but good range ammo to put to paper stage they’ve been great. If your bank account allows it try Normas Whitetail 140, very nice groups and a good price.

Budget boom sticks are my life! Why have a rifle, when you could instead have 3?
Maybe folks with their gun safes full of other guns need to buy a 3k rifle to have something new and fun, but as for me and my tiny collection, I'd rather have a couple decent budget guns so I can try our all kinds of shooting.

I mean don't get me wrong, I would love to have an expensive custom rifle but it just doesn't make sense in my life. I don't like to buy cheap guns but I do like to buy good guns that are affordable. I have a norinco 22lr that was $89.99 at Canadian tire thats has seen thousands of rounds and just keeps on working. If its accurate and reliable and doesn't break the bank its a win for me. Another good example is the maverick 88, that thing is dirt cheap and just runs.

If you ever want another bolt gun in 6.5, check out thr Stevens/Savage 334. Right around the same price but a fantastic rifle for $500. Just throwing it out there. I found thr 334 to be a upgrade while still being very cheap to buy.

I think i saw a shop selling Stevens/Savage barreled actions. That interest me because you can drop it into whatever stock you want. I'd be keen on one with a varmint profile barrel in a MDT stock

The new peak alloy is equivalent to going from black powder to smokeless, it can be adopted by any caliber and there’s really no downsides to it.

Time will tell but I have my doubts about this new wonder alloy. It seems too good to be true that we’d get that much of a performance boost.
I don’t think Sigs bimetallic case is working out. When things enter mass production they typically find the problems

I don't really see much point of using this for anything besides hunting, so even if you get half the barrel life not really an issue.
Guess it could do 1200y PRS competitions better than 6.5 creed. But generally those guys reload and even tho the case is reloadable it seems like a pain to do.
