Gun and gear reviews Follow-up observations about the Derya 9mm
Last night , I was able to put a few more magazines worth of ammunition through this new gun.
I gave it a quick going over before hitting the range and checked for loose screws , etc. Found a couple of loose ones gave them the tiniest dab of lock tite.
No problems with loose buffer tube or pistol grip as some other users have had. I noticed that the butt stock has a bit of wiggle room on the buffer tube. Not sure if my TM22 does the same thing, but the plastic parts do look identical.
I'm finding that the more I use aperature sights , the more I enjoy using them. I started out using the larger aperature on the rear sight, just not thinking about it. I was less than happy with the results at only twenty five yards. When I switched to the smaller aperature , in spite of starting to lose the light, results improved. That doesn't mean I was shooting cloverleaf groups , but I was happy with the way things were coming along.
As for the action, several people have noted how hard it is to open the action when just cycling the gun without firing any rounds. I found mine to be the same way. But when I actually fired the gun, for some reason I found that something was different. Maybe the recoil force combined with my grip was helping the action open much easier. I find that this gun is much more pleasant to fire than it is to just cycle empty.
I found that it is important to cycle the gun with authority on the first round of a full magazine. Maybe the upward pressure created by the compressed mag spring , and all those rounds in the magazine is causing some extra friction.
I don't know if the short barrel has anything to do with this or if it was just the acoustics of the area where I was shooting but holy cow is this thing loud. I accidentally fired the gun twice without ear protection. It seems louder than shooting 38 special through my Henry big boy.
I'm really enjoying playing around at the range with this gun. My thumbs aren't enjoying the experience of loading the magazines but I have a Ludex magloader on order. I should have that in time for the next range trip.

Get one of these. It'll put a smile on your face. It's pretty good value, as things go in today's market. The ammo is cheap too.

Also a good gun. I have a couple of Henry leverguns and would never give them up. Classic walnut and steel, as are most of my collection.

I have gone through a couple of action bars on my homesteader treating like my PC9....definitely fun to shoot but not built to last imo

How long did your action bars last ?

First time was around 600, second time was around 1100. Henry did replace both times but I have since sold it after the second time.

Damn, I have heard this is intermittent , but twice would really upset me
Ill keep an eye on them
I wonder if they need to make them out of a different sort of steel

Would assume was just bad luck. I am sure this would be wide spread other than a few isolated cases if was a design issue.
I also have a Henry lever which has been rock solid deer rifle and plinker for years.
Great company and I don't want to bash them. Every manufacture has issues from time to time. Its how they handle them that really tells the story. And Henry has been perfect in that regard.2

My buddies is a pos right outta the box he may have got a lemon but I’m turned off I had a Henry lever action I don’t think there very nice guns there okay but they ain’t a browning or a marlin or a s&w

Thanks for the info! Cycling a full magazine with a manual action being harderr seems to be a consistent manual action thing, as the fellow reviewing the .223 lever Homesteader noted the same thing.

9mm has more energy, powder and pressure then 38spl so it only makes sense that it has a louder report.

I love everyone’s argument “but you can get a semi auto for xxx$” what makes you think I want a semi? Yeah for some people these guns are it’s all I can get but some people just want a lever or a pump or a bolt action rifle.

Agreed. I love driving cars with stick shift transmissions. Just because automatic transmissions are available, doesn't mean that everyone should own one.
I really enjoy cycling the action on a gun. It's a different experience, yes. But for me it's more enjoyable than semi-auto.
My posts about this gun were never meant to convince anyone to buy it, yet some seem to want to convince me to sell it. If the shoe was on the other foot, maybe they'd understand.1

Well said. All these guys wanting semis probably don’t even know how to drive stick lol I daily a 50 merc with a 5 speed and also have a 82 w350 with the 4 speed. I’ve got a few autos too and they are good for cruising. Don’t get me wrong I like all my semis but something about manual action is just funner. It’s more involved makes a guy slow down and think and enjoy it instead of just spraying 10$ down range

Had to replace the butt stock bolt with a longer one. Good suggestion on the locktite!
I could not get the buttstock bolt to tighten down and I assumed that the bolt was stripped or the hole cross threaded. It threaded in ok without the butt stock so replacing with a slightly longer one seemed to help.
50 rounds soo far and I love this 9mm!

The tactical ones like the OP’s are mostly sold out right now. You can find a few of the longer barrel ones kicking around, but you’ll most likely have to pre-order from the next batch coming in.

Eh, $900 is still super steep for a 9mm pump action. An extra $400 and you can get the Henry Homesteader. Which is semi and comes from a much more reputable company.
Honestly it's all shit regardless. These companies are price gouging to the max and taking advantage of gunowners. Less than 2 years ago you could have gotten a quality PCC for $900 that was made in America.
