Application / Regulation advice BC cfo wait times Vs ON CFO
Does the BC CFO generally have a better reputation for service times than the Ontario CFO?

In ontario. Submitted renewal. Had the card in hand within 2 weeks. Back in 2020 during covid, Submitted application for license in october 2020, didnt get the license until may of 2021.
Its really hit or miss and I would assume done on case by case basis as well as how many applications are submitted.

First time pal/rpal app. Submitted app April 19th 2026. It’s been 57 days or so and still says submitted. Called cfo they say “it’s in its final stages with cfo due to back log expect up to 6 months

BC, got mine a few days after the 28
On another note, anyone know how the BC CFO timeline is for restricted transfers now?

People in ON have got their license days after the mandatory 28. We've also heard stories here of people in BC waiting months. From anecdotal evidence, ON CFO is faster

RCMP mandatory waiting period: 28 days minimum, required by the Firearms Act, starting from the day the CFP receives your application

I'm sure the "28 day rule" is a progression from the FAC days. A so-called "cooling off" period we had when purchasing restricted firearms. After purchase we had to bring the R to the local cop shop with ATT for storage while the transfer was being processed. It took a month, more if it was a prohib.
You know, because we're all unhinged maniacs that get violent ideas so we need to take a chill pill....

Imagine the mayhem that would happen if it was 27 days! It would be like the purge. I don't even want to think about 26 days.

Ontario here, submitted like, may 4th. Had card in hand about 4 days after the minimum 28.

From BC here. I just got my licensed renewed. Did it online, 2 weeks later I got it in the mail.

Applied on the same day as my friend.
He got his 28 days later.
I got mine today (5 months later) after calling the CFO, getting told “it’s in the pile”, the emailed my MP to get them to act on my behalf and speed up the process.
Literally just depends where your name is at the end of the work day and how many people are on top of you the next.

I got my license approved within 28 days + shipping days in BC
