Fix my gun MDT 20 moa rail + MDT 1.25" Scope Rings ?
Hey guys I wanted to know what does it sound to you. I’m looking to buy a rifle that comes with a picatiny rail that has been replaced by a 20moa one from MDT. The owner says that it helps with long range.
Now I’ve already bought a 1.25" scope rings on a entry level precision scope; does it sound alright? I don’t know anything yet about scope height and setup theory. I just want to know if I have to change something or if it’s totally alright?
I’m planning to learn and practice long range shooting this year and I don’t have a lot of amateur/experienced people around me.
Additional info : I have a more hunter oriented chassis that I will swap the precision chassis with to go hunting with the said rifle. Id keep the same scope/rail setup, but it will not shoot long distance like once a year. Would it be alright in the case a 20moa rail + 1.25" scope rings are paired together?
I try to learn and listen a lot of what people has to teach. Keep in mind that I will not be a professional shooter that wants to get everything perfect for a price out of this world if that make any sense. I just want to enjoy some free time outside with friends while learning the essentials along the way. Thanks again guys.

The height of rings don't really matter...as long as the scope clears for your setup. It depends on how big your scope is...how long it is...diameter/contour of the barrel, etc
Generally you want to have the scope mounted as low to the axis of the bore to minimize any POI/POA issues due to canting. The effect is really minimal with normal shooting at 100yrd but can be more of a factor at extended ranges.
If your scope is long (or with sunshade) and your rings are low...and especially we a 20MOA rail...the bottom of your objective lense may not clear your barrel. Not only will this mark your barrel but will likely be inconsistent as things heat up/vibrate/etc).
You can try to figure things out in advance based off the schematic diagrams of the rings/scope/etc...but I've always just tried things out starting with medium height rings.

The height of your rings is going to mostly be about the clearance required for your objective lense on your scope. If your scope fits and its comfortable to shoot it should be good to go
A 20 moa rail is fine and I'm not really sure the question is?
Im more concerned with how you plan to mount these parts and optic, do you have the tools required to do this? You don't seem very experienced or knowledgeable, which is ok, but you can really damage a scope, and really frustrate your self and waste a lot of time and ammo if you don't do it properly.

Yea I have all the tools needed. I’m just looking for bugs in case someone has an important tip/detail to give. Basically I’m just opening the discussion.

I have both on my 300 win mag long as it clears the barrel and or hand guard it’s good to go and yes 20 moa gives it more height basically for long range shots, also MDT is quality stuff 100% I try to support them all I can I grew up in the town they’re headquarters is in. Never have anything bad to say about them but they are getting pricey nowadays but so is everything else lol. I run a MDT chassis 20moa rail and elite rings plus multiple other accessories, bipod, grips etc

Damm that’s awesome! Every time I hear someone talking about MDT I see stars in their eyes. Ive been looking around every major brands for the last two years to get familiarized with gear tiers.
Usually im not the guy who’s reppin big brand name on the stuff I have, but for MDT I’d do it without hesitation. Their stuff is pretty sick and there’s a lot of work in it. It seems that they don’t hesitate to gather feedback and quickly bring a new gen of their stuff to satisfy everyone.
Do you know if they go on sale sometime? I’d like to get a CKYE bipod. In fact I’m thinking about getting either an Atlas CAL or MDT CKYE.

Usually Black Friday but I seen an email recently about one for testing their new website setup but that may have already passed. Their customer support and listening to community is top notch

Generally MDT only has one sale each year and it's on Black Friday. (It's also traditional for the website to crash for the first hour or two.)

Scope ring/mount height is based on individual shooter comfort (provided it’s not so low there isn’t enough clearance for the objective bell). Some guys like 1.5”, others prefer something under 1”.
That being said, 1.25” rings/mount on 20MOA rails is VERY common for PRS rifles.
