Feets / Collection / My build Remington 597 adapter

Post image

So i got the remington 597 adapter for my 10/22 and im kinda disappointed. I have to hold the bolt open when i insert the magazine or they just fall out and even so if you manipulate the gun aggressively the magazine still work themselves out. I put a strip of electrical tape on the front face of the magazines and that helped a bit but im just wondering if this is just a normal experience or i got a defective adapter? Dont flame me for the barrel length i ran out of money with the chassis. Short barrel coming soon.

It's highly unlikely your adapter is defective. We test each one when they are assembled.

Loose mags is caused by the mag. Being wobbly typically isn't an issue, but rather it not latching properly.

What is probably happening on your rifle is the mag is hitting the bolt and not fully latching into place. This is caused by an extremely tight tolerance between the mag and bolt and differentces between different bolts, mags, receivers, etc.

Cleaning up the notch on the mag is a good first step. Electrical tape on the front of the mag can mitigate wobble if it bothers you. Typically it doesn't impact feeding as long as the mag latches.

I will definitely try to do some work on the notch then i didn’t think about that thank you 🙏

If you're using the promags which it looks like sand the top of the lips about a half mm and try them again, test that you can release the bolt and have it snap forward with no slow down or it getting stuck on the mag

Is there any hope you guys can make a 10/22 adapter to take the Derya TM22 magazines? They’re much better made and more reliable

The feed geometry is wrong and those mags will not work.

We have tried literally every mag out there.

The pro mags are poorly made and as mentioned require “fitting” to get working nicely. Other alternative is look for a Remington branded magazine. It should fit a bit better and lock in better. They are harder to find and more expensive when you do find them and sometimes require some smoothing too. There’s no easy high capacity mags for a 10/22 unfortunately. I was kinda holding out hope someone can make an adapter that takes derya tm22 mags.

Promags are so bad that that bullets jam on the magazine retainer notch! But when they work, they work "OK", however, lately I have the HC3R TUF-22 magazines working really well in my 10/22 SBI Superlite /w DLASK receiver.

It's too bad no one has released better quality magazines for the 597 to use in a 10/22.

I've been having issues with mine as well although I've been experiencing a different issue. For me I find that the rounds are not feeding smoothly from the adapter I to the chamber ( I have a st22). They seemed to be catching the little ridge on the ramp up to the chamber. I have tried to file it out to improve the feeding and it seems to have improved it somewhat but still have some work to do. Was kind of disappointed in having to fix it but in my mind it's an adapter and they have to try to make it work with many different 10/22 platforms (Ruger, sbi, etc..)

Midwest Industries 10/22 8" handguard, here's my build. There is also a TakdenKross Bolt Keeper Extended Bolt Lock on it too (red button).

I bought one a few years ago and I’ve never managed to get it to work properly. The receiver and bolt are factory, I’ve replaced the mainspring with a new factory one. Maybe I’ll try sanding down the mags as one person suggested here. It’s been a whole lot of dissatisfying frankly. I miss shooting my 10/22.

Probably an issue with the guns magwell. Mine doesn't like anything except the stock rotary mags. The adapter i got works better than when I was running the Butler Creek mags but it could be better.

Bro that is one ugly gun. Wow

I might not appreciate the esthetic of a lowered Honda civic with a fart can exhaust.

I DO appreciate a fellow car enthusiast making something they enjoy. After all, it's theirs not mine.

Don't we have enough enemies at the moment?

Unlike a Civic with a fart exhaust at least this isn't ripping down my street going mach jesus at 2am.

I see you’ve met my cross-alley neighbour. Except he rips down the street, the alley, and in a playground zone - all hours of the day and night. Suppose it’s an upgrade from his straight piped v6 Dakota that he had before though.

Especially since I just got off work and really need to sleep. 😩

Bro asked a magazine question , not your judgement on his gun style.

As for the magazine, no. That’s not normal but that’s the fault of the magazine likely being out of spec. Those SBI adapters are solid.
