There is unsurprisingly little discussion among gun owners who participated in the “buy back.” However I’m sure there are some basic questions we at least like to have a general idea on. Such as among the individual firearms declared, were the majority previously restricted and registered? Did some only participate to take advantage of certain firearms that were valued high? Did others see this as chance to get rid of their piece of crap gun they had just gathering dust? I believe an anonymous poll will help paint a picture of what that pool of declared 67,000 firearms look like.

That would have been a good idea so ppl can see the results lol. I was admittedly trying to avoid the more heated stuff, get those we did comply to come out and comment on their thoughts.

But why? The people who are justifying selling out their fellow firearms owners always give the same handful of excuses. Hell, look at the crash out in the politics thread.
By trying to avoid the core issue of non-compliance, it just supports the narrative of compliance no?

I think the info on the declared firearms is so vague because it hurts them and their narrative. If the vast majority declared were only previously restricted, means the gun community held out and stayed stronger than we thought. If the vast majority of firearms are only the ones that got valued way too high, that’s also a very bad look, same with getting a bunch of shitty firearms or broken firearms no one wanted.

You would be wrong on that front. The Liberals thrive on vagueness and misconceptions. Why else would they keep the figures quiet? Why call them assault style etc.
If the vast majority declared were only previously restricted, means the gun community held out and stayed stronger than we thought. If the vast majority of firearms are only the ones that got valued way too high, that’s also a very bad look, same with getting a bunch of shitty firearms or broken firearms no one wanted.
You're still falling into the trap of giving them declaration metrics which is easily spun up as participation.

It's literally both. I don't understand how this is hard to understand.
You run a skewed poll, you're doing exactly what they want.
You give them any evidence of compliance and it's spun up six ways to Sunday.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. I'm just saying that the narrative you're helping foster is detrimental to firearms owners even if the intention is good.

The best way to 'paint a picture' is to ATIP what was turned in. At the end of the day, reddit and their subsequent subs are a vocal minority. Information gathered here would be a bad sample. I'd be more interested in the 67000 turned in, how much were retailers because if the vast majority are (which i suspect is the case) it would further shed light on how bad of a reception to this program was.
I don't blame businesses for turning over stock. It has been cutting into their overhead in both shop space as well as the insurance premiums based on their inventories. Pair it with the hurt the businesses have been feeling since all this bs started in 2020.

I could say others have tried and my request would be no different, but the simple truth is the exact amount of effort i’m willing to put in is this poll on reddit. I will say the results is shaping up to what i had suspected.

IIRC there were like 30k+ guns on day 1 then only a slow trickle over the following weeks making me think that many of the guns were somehow pre-registered and only the second half of that 67k were actualy registered by people.

I wasn't aware anyone had to declare guns other than prohibited for the buy back program.

Well if you read this is only for people who have declared and registered, and why they did. I doubt anyone who hasn’t declared wants to be part of any polls, I also wouldn’t ask.
