Buy recommendations MK15 restricted vs nr?
Why do people dislike the restricted version so much? Only difference is barrel length really right? Also it hadn’t even come out why are they putting the NR above R

For a gun like the Makasi it's not worth having a restricted version and the regulatory baggage that comes with that. It's a long rifle either way. For something like the Vector or 11" barrel PS90 it's worth a R designation if you want the authentic silhouettes, but not for a Makasi.

Agreed. Having to register it to save 2" of barrel seems silly in this day and age.
The arbitrary classification seems to ridiculous, it's not like a 18" barrel is somehow less "dangerous" or harmful than a 16" or even 12" is just more nonsense laws, written by people who know nothing about firearms.
I even actually sold 2 of my 3 16" 223 bolt guns and bought a long barreled model instead, because I wanted to get that extra 200fps out of the round.

The fuddlore on the 18.5" requirement was to make M1 Carbines (18" barrel) require registration as they were notoriously used by gangs in Quebec. It wasn't arbitrary, it made them illegal to have on your person without a registration cert and ATT

The 18" cutoff was not arbitrary at all.
It was introduced to basically shadowban the M1 Carbines, which was extremely popular.

Where have you been the last 6 years, R’s have been completely weaponized by the lib government. They literally brag how they know where they are and can come and send police to your door to take it.
The whole entire buyback is literally built on the premise of restricted rifles only, the government is straight up denying non-restricted even exist.
I’m never playing with restricted rifles until the libs are out of office

I learned my lesson with restricteds when I went on a spending spree in 2024 thinking they were done with bans, and decided to get the B&T guns I always wanted. And now, people still don't get why restricted owners participated in the buyback.

1) i shoot on crown land so bringing a restriced puts me at risk of a serious penalty.
2) why tell the gov i have one just to get it a few inches shorter?

Do you have any idea what restricted entails?
You know the whole needing to register the gun and have it tied to your name, gun license, home address, etc. So that when they ban it they can come and boot down your door and arrest you for owning something you legally purchased.
People want NR stuff because its not registered, ie once you buy it, it disappears off the map entirely and nobody knows who owns it or where it is. Thats what makes the bans entirely unenforceable to begin with.
In short, nobody wants to buy restricted stuff anymore because the government has proven they cant be trusted with a registry when they plan on abusing the existing one to criminalize law abiding citizens.

Cost and inconvenience.
You could take the NR version hunting or target shoot on own private property. You absolutely cannot do that with the R version.
You’re limited to a range where you hold a membership, which is severely deficient in pop cans or other fun stuff to blast away at. You also need to transport it differently and I believe cost is the same if not more over the NR.
I’d personally like to have both the NR and R if the R version’s barrel length was tempting enough. But I’d easily buy the NR first

do you have your restricted license because if you do you should know why NR is better and if you dont have a RPAL then you don't need to worry
1 You cant take R guns out without ATT and you can only shoot at a range
2 the barrel difference in only 2.5 inches so it not really worth being on a government list

I'd be interested in a 12" restricted one. But the difference between 16" and 18.6" in terms of handling is negligible and not having it registered is an incentive.
