Misc Barrel break-in?

Bought a SCSA Taipan .223. Just read the manual, and it says you need to do a multi-step cleaning, shoot, cleaning, shoot, clean, shoot, etc. until you’ve shot 50 rounds.

Is this really necessary? We don’t have a range near us. We are booked for June 7 at a range 2 hours away. I didn’t know about this breaking in process, and now I fear I’m going to be wasting my 1.5 hours at the range just doing this.

Can anyone please advise?

I’ve never done a break in period for a barrel. At most the first couple magazines are fired somewhat slow while sighting the rifle in.

I figure if the massive fire ball and chunk of lead being squeezed through the barrel 10-15 times during sighting doesn’t remove any burs or tooling marks… nothing is going to.

Most I’ve done is a quick cleaning of the barrel prior to getting to the range. That way any grease is cleared out of it.

All the guns I’ve owned have been around 1.5 MOA or less. That’s across rimfire and .30 cal rifles. If I can’t hit what I intended to, it’s usually a fault on myself and not the rifle.
