Buy recommendations Used market near Ottawa?

My PAL/RPAL arrived last week - YAY!!!

Was thinking about picking up a used LR 22 bolt action rifle to get started...and save my $ for a shotgun and higher power rifle.

What are the good sites that I can search locally? Don't want to deal with mailed guns. Would want to drive to location, have a look at, etc.

Also, feel free to talk me out of this. Just figured there might be a few folks who have bought new and quickly moved on up.

Gun post and filter for Ottawa. But it seems a lot of people think guns increase in value on the used market. So cheap deals are hard to find.

I see one guy in the Ottawa area selling ammo at above market rate. Like as if he's done a service of ordering it and letting you pick a few boxes up from him.

Edit: for example he's selling 1000 rounds of cci mini mag for 180 dollars. They are 16 dollars plus tax (18.07 after tax) per 100 at Cabela's. Basically the same price per round but you can buy them in smaller amounts from a real store. If you buy bulk from a real online store it's going to be like 14 cents per round or less

Super thank you, yeah, not looking to pay new prices for used equipment or excess ammo!

Although you just said you don’t want to deal with mailed guns, intersurplus out of Québec is dirt cheap for some really cool guns. Mailing guns with Canada post is super simple: if I’m not home, they drop off a card and I pick it up the next day.

That said, intersurplus does do gun shows in Ontario a few times a year so that’s an option too

Ok, cool, thank you! I do visit QC fairly often, but limited mostly to the Outouais region!

Stittsville Shooting Ranges usually has a bunch of used guns on consignment.

That Hunting and Fishing Store is always worth a look.

SFRC near Kingston (bit of a drive, but worth it if you happen to be going by anyway) though they mostly have new firearms but do have some used guns too.

Gunpost as everyone else mentioned.

Canadian Gun Nutz is also an option but has more hoops to jump through for verification as a buyer/seller.

Ask around at local gun ranges, some have physical boards with sale ads by members. EOSC, Stittsville, RA Centre Gun Club, etc.

Marstar has limited used guns, mostly stupidly expensive antiques, and doesn't have a storefront, but they're local-ish.

Great North Gun Co / GNG Surplus in Outauais, QC has a bunch of used and surplus firearms but no storefront.

Cabela's doesn't have anything used, but you can pick up a "cheap" bolt action .22 for a few hundred bucks.

Same deal with SAIL.

Same deal with rural Canadian Tires. Occasionally they have clearance sales (picked up a Ruger American Predator for $400) and a lot don't update their prices to match online stores (picked up a Ruger 10/22 Takedown for $500). But they have no online inventory so you have to know which locations sell guns and visit them in-person to see what they have.

Super, this is fantastic information!!! I'll have to figure out my approach and how much effort I want to put into the "search".

Gunpost.ca is a great place to start. It lets you filter by location, calibre, type, etc

1

u/cubiclejail May 28 '26

Super, yeah I'll check it out for sure.

That Hunting store in Ottawa is THE place. Got a great deal on a Mav 88 combo a few short months back. Plus supporting local family owned stores is based. Every so often they get really neat guns in consignment for really bargain prices too. I'd keep an eye on their website and bookmark it.

u/cubiclejail May 28 '26

Ok, thank you I appreciate it.

lol bro really says don’t wanna deal with mailed guns as I’m in the USA dying to have guns shipped to my house. One of the only things Canada got over the us, people like saying short shotguns but it’s probably easier and quicker to get a tax stamp in us then a PAL. Get a maverick 88 12 gauge for 300

1

u/cubiclejail May 28 '26

You're bro-ing me in the 3rd person because I expressed a preference not to have to receive a gun via mail? What a loser attitude to be coming up in a post like that. Here I thought I would enjoy this community!

Hope I don't encounter more negative shit like that.

1

u/Imaginary-Text4690 May 28 '26

It’s not that deep bro damn I’m just bringing up a point in the community and also suggesting a an awsome versatile gun that’s only 300 dollars brand new from a reputable maker mossberg. Sorry if I offended you or came off any aggressive way. I think the community is chill I’ve been in it for years now I think your probably used to other parts of Reddit and assume I’m just an ass

1

u/Imaginary-Text4690 May 28 '26

I wasn’t trying to say that is was stupid that you wanted a gun in person or anything I didn’t mean for that to seem like an attack sorry

Guidance for what, selling bolt 22, like your previous post that got deleted for being a firearms transaction?

The admins should have banned your account for that previous post, i guess the fact that they didn't could be used as an argument that our sub shouldn't be punished for your existence.
