I've got an old Sauer branded beretta. It's basically an s56e with a different stamp.
It's got a few drawbacks to more modern ones, but it was also under $1000. When it arrived it was naturally old, not used recently, and in need of a cleaning. I didn't have any luck finding a copy of a manual for a shotgun made 50+ years ago, but I was shocked that a current silver pigeon manual worked fine. The modern ones have some extras, but the core parts are still pretty much the same. In the simplified drawings in the manual you couldn't even tell the difference. Not much has changed I guess

My first gun was a used over under as well. Great choice, busting clays is fun as hell. I find the only thing almost as satisfying is shooting slugs with a pump action. A distant third is shooting gongs with a rifle.
