Buy recommendations Makasi, Carmel, Both, or Neither?
Both non-restricted 5.56 short-stroke gas piston semiauto accepting Stanag mags. Both taking orders with similar delivery dates. What is your choice and your reasons?
Edit: So to summarize what y'all are saying: - Makasi for AR aesthetics and compatibility, - Carmel for reliability, - Both if you hate money, - Neither because of potential bans.

Carmel is absolutely the better value. Nice adjustable stock and decent trigger out of the box.
It'd take at least a few hundred to get the Makasi up to a similar level of performance and ergonomics. There is some value in having a stock rifle to customize. We all like Lego.
With that said I'm probably going to buy whichever is ready to ship first.
