Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Becoming a gun owner has led me to support Quebec separatism. Get them gone, Nathalie please leave too. You guys can make your own gun free utopia and the rest of us can keep our guns in peace. It’s a win win!

I’m joking. I don’t actually support that, and I deeply feel for Quebec gun owners. You guys are at the forefront of our cause. I think what I really hope is that Poly gets the mental health support that they genuinely need, and the liberals need to wisen up and stop pushing for unpopular ridiculous infringements on people’s property. THATS a win win.

I knew that after I became a gun owner, because of my rather syncretic beliefs, that I wouldn't be welcomed anywhere in particular. I knew very specifically that the major population centers of Quebec would be a hassle (Toronto too I suppose).

I'm not going to lie, an irrational part of my brain really likes the idea of Quebec Separatism but only for Quebec City and Montreal. Is that stupid? You bet, but it is a thought that amuses me.

I think Canada makes more sense closer to a Swiss-style confederation for this reason.

There's zero reason anyone in Montreal should be making laws for me, and if Montreal will always vote one way in opposition to the entire rest of the province, why should they get a veto over what the rest of the province wants?

I think that if one area always votes one way, and the rest of that area always votes another way, that it's a very clear sign they shouldn't be making laws that dictate the culture either should have.

"Because it's tradition" is not a valid argument.

While their system is admirable, it's also tailored to the Swiss people.

Canadians are not the Swiss.
