Gun and gear reviews IWI BACK IN CANADA: CSR18 IWI Carmel 5.56 NATO 18.6” Barrel Non-Restricted

u/TheTurdwrangler DPRT May 19 '26
I look forward to the chipmunk and the FRT lab explaining how this is ok but all the OIC banned guns are too deadly to sell infront of the SCC
89
u/Popfartshart May 19 '26
Tbh banning this is antisemitism. Actually.
50
u/IcySkyDream May 19 '26
Didn’t stop them from banning the Tavor and X95. 😞
54
u/SquidMeister12 May 19 '26
Yes, but the nose on this one is so big you can’t deny its heritage while the others were shorter bullpups.
13
u/IcySkyDream May 19 '26
The CZ Bren 2 also had a huge nose, and it too, was banned. There are no limits or rationale for what Provost and her ilk are doing, because they're getting away with it.
Keeping my fingers crossed for the SCC decision.
17
u/SquidMeister12 May 19 '26
But the long nose Bren came from Czechia, not from Israel, banning the Israel long nose is antisemitism.
1
u/violent-trashpanda May 25 '26
Who cares. Id rather have one instead of dealing with ugly cope guns.
48
u/IcySkyDream May 19 '26
They’ll just ban this too.
27
u/DiomedesWrath May 19 '26
As much as I'd love to have hope, once this hits their radar it'll be banned for the simple reason that they can and despise gun ownership. Just hope they're legal for long enough for a few of us to get our paws on them
23
u/Lumindan May 19 '26
It's already on their radar.
They just don't need that flavor of PR right now since approval ratings are doing okay.
1
u/EliteDuck May 20 '26
Approval ratings are not doing ok. The LPC has had it's biggest drop under Carney the last month.
1
u/scamcitizen999 Jun 15 '26
he wont, theyll just ban it
and theyll use the "transfer" protocol to track who has bought them
41
u/CheesecakeEasy8952 May 19 '26
You really think the Poly Grave Dancers will let this one slide.
32
u/OrientalSells95 May 19 '26
They can stroke the shaft, cradle my balls and swallow the gravy. Its been 30 years and none of them have one clue about firearms and ownership in this country
13

50
u/GopherRebellion May 19 '26
Its insane to me that people are complaining about these and the Makasi. Too expensive. Too ugly. Too many war crimes from the country of origin. Ok fair.
We're literally in a dark ages for gun ownership. Ya'll are running around with Turkish Frankenelli M4 rifles clad in 3d printed parts. Its no longer just the guys with strap on wearing wives that are choosing straight pull rifles.
Now out of nowhere we have two legitimately decent modern semi's for what was considered a fair price pre-OIC.
I'm not gonna fall for the pre-order trap but as soon as I see one ready to ship I'm snagging it.
11
u/Whispersfine May 20 '26
Funny thing is this is actually cheaper than the OIC banned semis. Tavor was in the same price range, Bren 2 was more expensive. Hell the only cheaper one I can think of is type 81 and it was Cold War grandpa stick.
If you put inflation on top of everything, this is a actually a cheaper gun from a reputable manufacturer.
Many of us can’t simply crunch numbers or they have the memory of a gold fish.
6
u/yummybunnybear May 20 '26
Yeah can't complain about having an AR/Fal love child and an AR/Scar love child
7
u/violent-trashpanda May 20 '26
HK and Glock is German too but I dont see anyone complaining about war crimes.
I'll enjoy my IWI Carmel while the rest can shoot turkish turds.
3
1
u/HootieHO May 22 '26
Im not taking a stance in buying the gun or supporting IWI, but can't help but explain to you the false equivalency here as it is so egregious.
War crimes from 80 years ago that a country has taken immense effort to reform from and prevent from happening again are not the same as ongoing war crimes being perpetrated daily, and that when financially supported, will somewhat directly contribute to more dead children today, tomorrow, and a week from now.
1
u/violent-trashpanda May 22 '26
It doesnt matter what Israel does it continuelously gets scrutinized. Defense leads to oppression. Restraint leads to occupier.
Anyways take this discussion in a political reddit group not this one. Its getting annoying. It makes me want to get IWI products even more so.

What's the pre-order trap? (I definitely didn't impulse order one today.... nope....). Their "fully refundable" deposit was a little too good to be true but I'm new to this!
1
u/8-80085 Jun 24 '26
Have you got it yet? I’m also considering the pre order but I can’t tell if it’s a trap or not. Ava also what would be the best store to order it from?
1
1
u/M1GHTYM4C95 19d ago
What do you mean fall for a pre order trap, like be stuck with 3 grand in credit for a preorder that didnt complete?
21
u/IntroductionAny3929 May 19 '26
Y’all will love it I promise, over here in the US we have the Carmel, I can tell y’all that it is a neat gun.
8
u/violent-trashpanda May 19 '26
Why is there not alot of talk of it ? I see a tiny amount of YouTube videos . Nothing really current.
11
u/Whispersfine May 19 '26
Cos they have better stuff to play with? ACR SCAR KAC, just to name a few.
6
u/IntroductionAny3929 May 19 '26
It’s mainly because it’s very niche, and a lot of people sleep on it.
If you want good info on it.
r/IWICarmel is there to help
5
u/airchinapilot May 20 '26
because ARs are still available in the US so there is nothing really compelling Americans to look at me-too type rifles
47
u/hellfire-r9x May 19 '26
That's a lot of plastic for a lot of money, interested in seeing how these hold up over time.
79
u/rastamasta45 May 19 '26
If it’s anything like the Tavor /X95, very very very well
-2
u/elmo444555 May 19 '26
Ask the Israelis how they held up. Lool constant jams and shitty manual of arms, that’s why they went back to the AR platform. I had a X95 a few years back and returned it, every 50 rounds or so I would have a few jams in a row that were a bitch to clear.
The one thing that IWI has is their marketing take that away and you are left with a heavy, unbalanced, jam prone, unreliable firearm that the original nation had to redesign after a few years and dropped it a few years after that.

From what I read back when IWI redesigned the Tavor with IDF input, the number one complaint was that the mag release was too easy to bump accidentally, causing mags to drop mid firefight. They also noted that on new Tavors, the magwell was tight enough that mags wouldn’t fall free until it broke in. The problem was in combat the release would still get bumped and since the mag couldn’t fully drop, it would sit just out of position causing double feeds and malfunctions on the next round.
Edit: The trigger was also horrendous.

First I've heard someone say that about IWI.
7
u/elmo444555 May 20 '26
That wasn’t my intention as much as I hate to say it as a Palestinian Canadian. IWI does generally make good weapons. The Galil is a great gun and its modern iterations put it imho in the top 3 best long stroke rifles.
2
u/rastamasta45 May 20 '26
Unfortunately as a Canadian gun owner, we don’t get the luxury of not buying a gun because of politics, we have to buy what we can get. As it stands it’s the Makasi and this
0
u/elmo444555 May 20 '26
For sure, I was commenting on the Tavor/ x95. There is no ethical consumption especially in the arms industry.
1
u/i-Hermit May 20 '26
Yeah, I mean these guys have been fighting basically nonstop since 1948.. I assumed they'd know what's up.
1
u/Dudechillthanks May 22 '26
Owned a few x95 and tavors over the last decade and never had any issues.
14
u/Lumindan May 19 '26
Tavors were heavily polymer and they're sturdy.
8
u/IcySkyDream May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26
They have a massive internal aluminium chassis, but yeah, the polymer is GTG. 👍
24
u/Holmes419 May 19 '26
Tavors have held up beautifully so I don’t think that’s an issue. The polymer they use is quite robust.
9
u/Steelringin May 19 '26
I had a Tavor, not X95, that I put over 20K rounds through. The only failures that I ever had were a couple of squibs from a bad batch of ammo. Still shot around 1.5MOA up I sold it. I don't think I had to replace a single part on it except the charging handle rod that I bent when trying to reassemble it incorrectly. It was still running on all of the original springs, etc.
I'd bet my left nut that whatever IWI sells it's likely to up extremely well.

concerned about plastic in a rifle in 2026 💔💔

I'll stick with the mk15, but cool to have more options like this for sure.
9
u/rastamasta45 May 19 '26
I’m leaning sticking to the mk15 as well, but god damn am I tempted

Why not both?
Eating and paying bills is overrated

I wish they had but I gotta feeling we might not see those coming before you know who tries to ban it.

Jokes on the liberals that almost 100 percent of all firearms in existence were designed before 2023.
15
u/haberdasher42 May 19 '26
Israeli arms manufacturers have more sway than Montreal lobbyists.
2
u/Schrodinger_cube May 19 '26
Perhaps but i think they would rather buy political capital for other things considering the Tavors all got listed. Im betting its only a matter of time before this one gets there as well.
7
u/Whispersfine May 20 '26
Let me remind everyone before the price bitching starts.
Pre OIC, pretty much any 223 semis were more expensive. We are not talking about ACR APC kind of stuff. Bren2 was way more expensive, tavor was in the same price range so that’s an apple to apple comparison for you.
If you include inflations on top of everything else, this is not a gauging price in any shape or form. I understand it’s still a big bill to pay but hey, at least this is the best gun you can get next to the Turkish garbage.
Easy math in my humble opinion.

Tenda pre order full couldn’t order. That was fast
4
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 May 19 '26
You have to order for shipping - their website is weird and does not allow for store pick up.
You then have to e-mail or call them to update the order for pick up.
3
u/truckstopyolo May 19 '26
For reals? I’m such a clown. I’ll try it now
4
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 May 19 '26
Not a clown; it's a quirk of their website, they have "no stock" to pick up, so pre-order inventory was flagged for shipping only.
Tenda should have made the instructions cleaner 😃
4
1
u/SuccessSeparate9014 May 20 '26
I once showed up early to pick up a order without the notification. Needless to say, the guy was mad
11
u/Ok_Rush_246 May 19 '26
Just a friendly reminder that preordering is never an advantage and you won’t get the rifle any faster
3
u/adrenalineJ92 May 19 '26
Why is that?
-4
u/Ok_Rush_246 May 19 '26
With preorders the sale is already made. Retailers would rather get new sales. They will sell the incoming stock before fulfilling the preorders
3
u/Hot_Cheesecake_905 May 19 '26
I don't think that's true for all vendors. However, this is a good way to burn your store's reputation.
2
u/Ok_Rush_246 May 19 '26
They all do it. There are always rifles available for sale before preorders are shipped to customers.
People can downvote me but this has been the case every single time

4
u/Vahuo89 May 19 '26
Question is , the price starts with what number
6
u/JimmyKillem sk May 19 '26
$2600 in their insta
13
u/IntrepidKitchen5322 May 19 '26
Damn, like the Makasi, outta my budget. Envious of the states and their ability to get budget ARs.

u/Current-Speed4096 May 19 '26
I'm now just really confused about how they categorize NR semi autos.
and gun nuts care to lecture me?
thanks!
8
u/SirKickBan May 19 '26
The RCMP's categorization pretty much always follows what's laid out in Criminal Code, which doesn't specially restrict semi autos and focuses largely on length. The later bans (That this will likely suffer from in 6-18 months time) via OIC are the ones that are just a list of "Semi-autos you cannot have".
2
1
u/SuccessSeparate9014 May 20 '26
I still dont understand why the r9 was banned as a ar180 despite having nothing in common design wise as a ar180. Its a straight blowback pcc for fucks sake.
4
u/scrapyardmma89 May 21 '26
Can someone explain to me - how is this not banned / is there any chance it won’t be? Because I’ll fucking buy one if I won’t get burned.
3
7
4
u/Weak-Coffee-8538 May 19 '26
When Carney and his government are in a scandal, they will roll these out for another OIC to distract everyone from their corruption.
Me thinks his push for resources without consulting FN and his financial numbers gibberish will cost him dearly.
Time is ticking.

u/i-Hermit May 20 '26
If I knew it wasn't going to get banned, this would be something I'd actually shell out that kind of cash for.

This is genius, now if anyone tries to ban it they’ll be considered anti semitic😭. We need Israeli Ak’s And Ar-15’s
1
u/Office_Responsible May 23 '26
Israel already makes AR15’s unfortunately that didn’t help, however lots of not AR15 modern firearms are out there. They just have to come here in time

I wonder if the Berretta NARP will come to Canada, its design began in 2018.

The B&T GMH9 was not banned when I bought it... not even one month later it's a safe queen by libtard OIC. The Carmel is an outstanding firearm just like the B&T. Let's hope it does not end up with the same fate as the B&T. The libtard gov't likes to wait until people buy these firearms (pay taxes on them) before they ban them.

What's going on with these new semi-auto rifles being approved by the RCMP? Is this just a case of our institutions not communicating with each other, so the RCMP just approves the designs as NR when it's their job to approve them, and then changes them to prohibited when it's time to ban them? Sorry to be a downer, it looks like a cool setup, but I got burned with the Crypto and I'm not eager to repeat the experience. In the Crypto's case, it was even billed as explicitly not taking AR-pattern magazines (unlike this rifle) and it still got burned, so from a regulatory standpoint this gun has even less going for it.
1
u/weathercat4 May 28 '26
No law were changed, so new guns submitted for a frt number will still be non restricted because they haven't been banned by name...yet anyway.
•
u/airchinapilot May 20 '26
People if you want to debate the ethics of buying an Israeli manufactured firearm marketed to civilians in Canada, take it to the politics thread.
