Gun and gear reviews Late night range sessions
Met a fellow Alcor enjoyer at the range, and got to hang out and shoot the shit, and talk about any issues from the Alcor now that I've gone thru 3000+ rnds with it.
First, if you're using the crusader arms handguard, and you're going thru ammo like money isn't a thing, then your handguard will wobble. 100% it will. Crank on the handguard nut at the front with channel locks or adjustable pliers if you want to remove any movement. Yeah it'll be scratched up, but shiieeet, chicks dig a weathered and used gun. Use loctite blue if you want some added stiffness.
Second, avoid STV ammo. I've mentioned this before in my previous comments on other Alcor posts, but STV .223 ammo is complete dogshit. I've had roughly 5-10% FTE rate with this ammo. The ejector isn't able to grab the rim sometimes due to cheap brass. Check out the pics. Stick to PMC bronze. Yeah it'll sting the wallet, but at least you won't look like a musket rifle shooter with a ram rod trying to manually eject your casing from the front.
Third. If you're sending bullets faster than your biweekly cheque can come in, then you're probably gonna experience what me and another user experienced: your firing pin roll pin will be sheared. I'm guessing Akdas didn't anticipate users using this rifle as much and as frequent. With Canadians being limited to Semi auto rifles in 223/556, this rifle is what we've got to work with. Besides that, the roll pin dimensions are 3mm diameter x 20mm long. I ordered roll pins from Amazon, and had to cut one down to length. It worked fine, tested it out last night at the range.
If you're an Alcor enjoyer and need pointers in taking apart your BCG for cleaning or repair, lemme know. I've taken mines apart a few times now due to the STV ammo issue (at first I thought it was the BCG acting up, but realized it was the ammo all along).

I had chronographed some of that STV ammo and it was pretty spicy. Can’t remember the MV but it was higher than I anticipated

The fact I had to zoom in to see the rifle on the right was actually an Alcor, makes me want an alcor....

Strange, I bought a bunch of SVT for my CTR and I love it. Obviously not match grade ammo but for blasting at the range it's been good. But bolt vs semi so YMMV.

Yeah, for bolt and lever action users, they've all told me STV worked wonders. It's just that when in semi, I can't manually action the ejection, since it uses blow back. Whereas with bolt or lever, you're manually ejecting each round.
I am stumped.

I ran SVT through a bolt action and it gave me pretty consistent FTEs. I even had it get stuck down my Henry single shot, the casing just got stuck steated in the barrel and I had to ramrod it out.

Odd how your pin sheared now after 3000 rounds, and some have roll pins that sheer after 600 or sooner. I wonder if there is some other issue or other factors that kill the pin.
Any ideas?

Honestly I was surprised it lasted that long.
I saw a post about another alcor user had his pin shear after less than 500 rnds. I commented on his post to follow, since I was hoping I would see his solution and hopefully I can avoid having that issue.
For roughly 2500 rnds in I'm doing ok since I was using PMC bronze.
Then when I switched to STV, I had issues with the FTE and then my pin sheared.
Is there a correlation? I'm not sure. Could ammo velocity or grain play a factor in the pin getting sheared?
Or is it simply overuse? I'm not a rifle expert or an armorer, so I can't say for certain.
What I can say, I do have a photo of the pin, and it looks like it's two layers of pins in one. Maybe I'll try to "unroll" the alcor pin and measure it's thickness and compare that to other roll pins.

Fox operator. They're an Australian company that makes adaptors etc for tikka and alcor.

I C-clamp at the front most of the handguard, so I can't put my IR laser behind my hand, otherwise my hands block the laser. And I run nods.
What would you like me to do?

Pick up and run what's on the left haha. I get that its maybe functional.... like a Pontiac Aztec. But its still unforgivably ugly.

I tried that, with the lam at the front, and holding my grip further back, and when I do that my elbow experiences a sharp pain.. I had an injury with my left elbow a while back.
But, when I extend my arm and C-clamp as far forward as I can, it feels fine.

So far I don’t have any issues with FTE with STV yet with the Alcor (I only shot 2 boxes), do you think this will happen eventually?
