I commend you for the larping acknowledgment and love that gun set up. The people who post themselves in full tactical gear and then act mortified when someone dares poke fun are the worst people on here.
If you want to play navy seal at home then do it and own it, just don’t try to act like you are any different than an 8 year old in a Walmart Halloween costume, the only difference is you have more money than that 8 year old.

Everyone takes themselves far to seriously.
And like the options for carrying a bunch of banana mags while trying to shoot and move is gonna end up feeling larp-y no matter what you do. And I don't always wanna bench shoot.
Shooting is allowed to be fun. Thanks for coming to my ted talk

As a Canadian, I love you❤️ thank you for your Ted Talk. I had the exact same set up as you last year, but gave up on the rail system and the archangel stock. I may break it out again to see if I can get it to perform better, the SKS does look wicked set up like this.

Thanks homie. Much luv. Feel free to DM if you need help with a problem. I've spent many hours watching reading and consuming everything I could about making these rifles work well this way.

For those interested Type 56 SKS, Neuman metalworks heat shield, Archangle stock, 5/30rnd promag duckbill mags, SBI mag release, Reduced pull trigger spring, Magwedge SKS rail, Cvlife red dot.
I've done the bolt mod As well as the pin through stock for duckbill delete. Hardest part about doing it is just being willing to drill.
Has run like a top.

Sick man,
When doing fast magazine changes, grab your fresh mag first, then use the top of your magazine to push on the magazine release, and have the fresh mag pop off the mag-release button and push into the empty mag to fling the empty magazine and then insert fresh mag. Its called the AK Karate chop. Or you can use your thumb while holding the fresh magazine to just simply let the empty magazine drop free and then immediately insert fresh mag.

u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
I'll give these another go. The first time I tried doing them that way I was having troubles.
5
u/FedInformant May 16 '26
Takes practice, but it will save you time. Who knows maybe with this mod it isnt possible. But thats how I did mag changes on the type 81
3
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
The tab for the release and the trigger guard make it so you have to angle the mag to get it in there. Since this is an SKS and not an AK it's not quite the same technique. I tried all of them and ended up finding this way the easiest/fastest. Need more practice. This was about my second time running drills with this setup that day. And today was the first time I ran the drills live. Was faster by the end of the sesh. Be faster next time too.

Thats fair man. Thats a sweet set up, thanks for sharing. I also like the Larp, PC with the denim jacket is a beauty touch haah

Sick setup bro, i hope you guys get cool guns again

u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
I got my makasi ordered. This summer hopefully the feds don't take it away as soon as we get it.
3
u/scottsuplol May 16 '26
I’m still on the fence about the pre-order I feel like I missed the initial and I’ll be late either way getting it so thinking it’s best for me to wait and see if the feds kill it
4
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
I was able to order through my local gun store. I don't mind supporting them. And they said if at any point before I get the gun it gets banned they would let me us money to order something else. So it's a win win.

u/Top_Importance6216 May 16 '26
I mean, its really as good as a bubba will get. The new phantom chassis is nice as well, but $700 is crazy vs the $240 archangel
4
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
There is a company that's making what is essentially an AR lower for the SKS. Pearce armory. Last I talked to them they said sometime over the summer. Full AR lower internals. It does require some permanent modification to reciver to do. But looks sweet. Unfortunately the chassis is apparently gonna be 1500usd for the early ones so that puts me out.

eh, for whats available semi auto isnt worth that
but this is like....the tarkov scav wet dream sks
5
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
Not that price. I'm not paying 700 Canadian for a chassis that doesn't make the gun nicisarily better. The pearce one does but I'm not pay what will amount to 2k.
I got my makasi ordered I'll pay the piper for that.
1
u/Top_Importance6216 May 16 '26
tbh im not even tempted to pay for one of those.
desperate times do not have to mean desperate measures haha but I genuinely hope you do get to enjoy it.
5
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
It's only money. And as someone who only got into firearms last year I've already missed out on some many things. So I'm not gonna miss out on the makasi.
1
u/jmz-jmz May 16 '26
Was this recently? Seems like the Pearce chassis stuff just kind of died off
2
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
Yes. I talked to them over winter and he said they were done forever and then more recently they hangered their mind and he was saying they were going to have a small batch of prototype aluminum chassis machined for sale to gauge interest.

If you go shoot multigun, you will feel under-dressed. People are wearing full cammo with plates and ballistic helmets. Though that's how I felt the first time at my range too in my chest rig lol.

Could you do a proper mod and install video ??
1
u/JaxIsLoud Jun 09 '26
I have a video on YouTube that gives some measurements. It's not an exact science. Once you have the hole in your stock and mags. Cut off the duckbill and file them till they fir nicely. It takes me about 10 minutes to get a mag ready right now.
I'm working on a project right now where I will end up moving to AK magazines

u/Murray3-Dvideos May 16 '26
I'll go ahead and say it..... duckbill'less mags in a Bubba'ed SKS IS faster and more reliable then stripper clips.
1
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
I have not spent any amount of time using stripper clips but I have seen plenty of people getting hung up trying to feed them in. 100% agree. I'll also add that in my experience the promag hate for reliability is overstated by people that either aren't willing to fit them to their rifle and or don't clean them.
1
u/Murray3-Dvideos May 16 '26
I would however put durability, compactness and of course affordability in stripper clips favor.
Ive noticed after a decades plus worth of use (most of which in below freezing conditions) the polymer feed lips on my Tapco mags are starting to wear thin.

Mags are consumable items, they wear out. Might be time for new ones if they aren't working anymore.
1
u/Educational-Bad2307 May 16 '26
The SBI mag release is good but I found that it made my trigger worst so I ditched it, you have the same problem?
2
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
No but I also have a reduced weight spring. So not really a apples to apples. There's a guy on gunpost selling them comes with 2 weight springs. I have the lighter one in there. Trigger pulls super light till you get to where it breaks and then breaks super clean.
Not ever SKS is equal either. There is about an hour long video on YouTube where a guy shows how to do a trigger job on the SKS. Mine feels good with the reduced weight and a clean and grease so I'm not super concerned about making it any better. But if yours sucks it might be something to look into or having a gunsmith do.
1
u/Educational-Bad2307 May 16 '26
Hey thanks for the tips eh, yea definitely gonna look into getting a lighter mag spring, and do a detailed strip for the trigger group and clean (trigger job if I have to). Good to know the SBI mag release and a good trigger can co-exist tho
Interesting thought that came from this: maybe the saying that sks are inconsistent are the mere result of people not fully removing the cosmolines to varing degrees, like I havent done the detailed strip and clean on mine so I can't really say the trigger pull that I'm experiencing is the actual trigger pull of my gun, maybe the people that says that theirs is not accurate is simply because of that

u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
No problem. I bought mine off a guy who used to instruct the Canadian safety course. He told me this was his target rifle for years before it served in the classroom. (Bastard didn't tell me he hand the firing pin in backwards so I learned how to disassemble and resemble bolt carrier in the bush. Lol)
First thing I did when I bought it was completely disassemble and clean the shit out of it. And did that every time I shot it for the first few times I went out.
I'd recommend spending the 45 minutes and watching this video and then at least disassemble and clean your trigger group. There's a few things this guy suggests outside of the seer modifications that I did and then make sure it's got some lubricant on the moving parts.

If you tuck the buttstock under your arm pit, with barrel parallel to the ground or at a slight upward angle, while still holding the pistol grip with your right hand you’ll get added stability. Your left hand does the mag change work. You’ll have an overall much faster mag change with a bit of practice.
1
u/JaxIsLoud May 18 '26
Thanks. I'll keep practicing. This was the first time out with the kit. And that was my second kick at the drill with live fire. All feed back is appreciated.
2
u/zaphodbssecondhead May 18 '26
if you practice the mag change with snap caps, standing in front of the tv, fish tank, whatever you like standing in front of, you can still do the change, transition, and one trigger pull without blowing through ammo. Reps is key to be fluid. Starting uncomfortably slow and building speed.
Then when you do a live drill it’ll be that much more satisfying
1
u/JaxIsLoud May 18 '26
Thanks homie. I've been meaning to get some snap caps. Good for practicing recoil management and failure to fire drills too.

is that your deer hunting setup?
5
u/JaxIsLoud May 16 '26
I intend on using this gun for a deer this fall. Where I'm at 100 yards shots are long distance. I'll pop on my magnifier and use the little 5 rounder I have and hopefully get a deer this fall.

This guys pretty much the reason why the firearms culture in Canada has not flourished in the past 50 years and why the government has been able to get away with so much. Meanwhile countries like Switzerland and Czechia are in much better positions in terms of the firearms culture and their own rights.
Keep training OP and don’t listen to these losers. Anyone who makes you feel bad for being a prepared citizen is the same one who gets left holding the bag when the government messes up. Based on his post history he seems like a fudd and a boomer had a kid.
You got an amazing build my friend and one day soon when we have ARs again, I look forward to seeing your builds brother!
