Buy recommendations Opinions on the Akdas Aclor .223 Semi-Auto?

I'm new to this hobby and I'm looking for a center fire semi-auto range toy that will last a good while and run reliably enough.
I was looking at either getting this rifle or an SKS and getting it modified to take those 10 round XCR-L pistol mags. I also had my eyes on that Makasi MK-15 that's coming to Canada, but I'm not sure about getting one of those just yet.
If anybody has some first hand knowledge on how the Aclor runs, I'd love to hear your experience with it.

Can't speak to the Akdas but an SKS will outlive you.

Yeah, I'm leaning quite heavily towards the SKS just because I know it can be ran hard and is reliable.

I was mainly interested in the Akdas Alcor because being able to run the 10 round Cross pistol mags would be nice, but apparently there are some adapters for the SKS that let it run 10 round XCR-L pistol mags.
The only problem is you have to modify the bolt and a couple other things to get them working, but I'm sure I could just take it to a gunsmith for that and have it still end up being cheaper than the Alcor.

Also, now that the Makasi MK-15 is hitting the market soon, that kind of renders the Alcor obsolete. (As long as it remains legal, God willing, lol.)

Speaking of the bans, what's your feeling on how things are headed in the near future? Do you think the government wants this whole issue to go away once their program is finished, or do you think they are going to keep pursuing further restrictions?

Personally, I think the Liberal government would love to see all civilian firearms ownership outlawed if they could. Optics of that are just to bad even in this political climate. I don't know what's actually going to happen but I do hope that they will "lose" the court case as an out for this debacle. They definitely screwed this all up from the very beginning and even though I think they want to keep going for ideology of it the whole thing is such a wreck I think they may bail on it to avoid years of future problems. Just my thoughts/hopes.

On a side note. I modified an sks years back to take XCR mags. It's not hard if you're mechanically minded and have a garage. The mag release kind of sucked but it ran flawlessly.

Oh damn, nice. After the modifications, was it still able to take stripper clips and could you reinstall and run the fixed mag if you wanted?

I didn't, but I believe you can go back. You permanently alter the bottom of the bolt but I think it will still pick up rounds from the box mag. You also change the profile of the feed ramp. Not sure if that would adversely effect use of the box mag.

Personally, I'd go with a Chinese SKS as they are in as new condition over the well used Russian ones. Also, if your moding it for the mag adapter I assume you're planning on a synthetic stock so the nicer wood of the Russian ones doesn't really matter.

Also, does it matter what kind of SKS you get? Is there any noticeable difference between the Chinese and Russian SKS's?

Many Chinese SKSes are in almost new condition. The Russian ones have nicer wood but many are very well used.

Just get a makasi mk-15 it’s been around for 3 years with great reviews and aftermarket support. Don’t buy a Turkish cope gun

As much as I want the makasi to stay and not be banned, I'm going to be so fucking pissed about everything else that was banned if it somehow misses the ban hammer. Like seriously how is the 10/22 and tm22 still allowed but not the gsg16. There has to be some sort of case law of a government doing things just for optics and not what they actually are saying.

Do yourself a favor and Quit trying to apply logic to the rules they come up with.

I have 2 Alcor 223’s. Super fun guns. They might not last forever but they have been reliable so far. Not our fault that Canada sucks. Buy an Alcor and a Makasi. Have fun while you still can.

Yeah I try to keep that mentality, can't let them scare us off. Thanks for the input, good to hear. :)👍👍

I also got my PAL a few months ago and bought an Alcor as it was the only semi-auto in .223 that was available before the Makasi was announced. It’s been fun and I’ve ran about 1000 rounds through it so far and haven’t had any issues. I have a bunch of 10rd LAR-15 mags which makes it a little more fun (no modifications required). There are a few options for handguards & stock adapters if you want to “tacticool” it. I went with Fox Operator but there’s also Tommy Enterprises and Kodiak Defense. The SKS will undoubtedly be more reliable in the long term and if you can wait for the Makasi to be steadily available after the initial rush then I would probably wait for that. That being said, the Alcor has been a good “cope” rifle for me and I’ve had a lot of fun with it. I don’t regret buying it and it will keep me amused until I can pick up a Makasi. If you have any other questions feel free to DM me!

I haven't heard of the Fox kit, I'll check that out. Thank you for the thorough reply! :)

Doesn’t matter Gary will ban them all in the long run not to be the pessimist but it’s true

I feel you man, I just try to have hope and not let them intimidate us into avoiding what we want to enjoy.
Hopefully things turn around one day!

SKS all day regardless, ammo is plentiful, lots of things you can do to customize it if you'd like, great fun, 10/10 all around.

If you just want a semi centre fire, start with the SKS. If you really want a 5.56 as well, wait for the Makasi. Tenda has a pre-order right now, $200 fully refundable deposit.

why do people have such a hard on for semi-auto?

like, if you are using semi-auto for rapid fire, its probably in the bush at a shitty target and costs you $20 a magazine. It's literally fun for 10 minutes.

so you decide to slow down and take your time with your shots. well then just buy a bolty.

I don't plan on owning semi-autos exclusively, I enjoy all action types.
