Glock would work for the conversion kit. OR if your willing to spend the money a CZShadow2 does have a 22LR kit as well.

It has to be imported as a 22lr. The glock 44 frame is not compatible with a 9mm slide.

Cz pistols with the Kadet kit, but the registration needs to be updated to be 22LR before transferring it.

P-09 or Cz Shadow 2.

If you are able to get the shadow 2 frame registered to you, that is basically all that matters.

Legally there's nothing you'd have to do if you temporarily swap the 9mm slide on.

If I recall correctly, if it's a "permanent" change, or you have it on for more than a month straight, then you technically have to report the change in caliber. I don't know if the CFO would be happy about updating your registration cert to say 9mm.

All that means though is just don't create and share a chain of evidence that proves that you've "permanently" swapped the caliber.

OP is in BC, the provincial shooting association worked out a deal to issue exemption letters.

Not happening in Ontario unfortunately.

I don't think this pistol would be good for competing but regardless you can train with any pistol with adjustable sights. Red dot kinda dumps the whole idea of olympic training. & if you check on laws on parl.ca, for a pistol exemption, we maybe asked to provide exemption letters every year If you want a nice pistol that looks tactical & is reliable, I'd suggest a 22/45 lite, tons of upgrades available too

open sights should be allowed but you cannot use optics for training or competing at an olympic shooting club. And regarding exemption letters I'm quoting parl.ca "Exception — handguns 97.‍1 Sections 12.‍2 and 19.‍1 do not apply in respect of an individual who (a) holds an authorization to carry in respect of a handgun; or (b) meets the prescribed criteria and annually provides a letter to a chief firearms officer from a provincial or national sport shooting governing body indicating (i) that they are training, competing or coaching in a handgun shooting discipline that is on the programme of the International Olympic Committee or the International Paralympic Committee, (ii) the disciplines in which they train, compete or coach, and (iii) that the handgun in question is necessary for training, competing or coaching in those disciplines. "

Depends on the province I think. For ON my understanding is that it’s just calibre restricted, .22 only but no feature requirements. For any kind of ATC and professional exemption I think it may be action restricted (guy on here in BC is a prospector and was limited to a 10mm semi auto but couldn’t buy a 10mm revolver since it’s a predator defence exemption)

Browning 1911 22lrs are kind of a gimmick. I had one and it functioned ok but the sight were terrible and it was small, and I have tiny hands. I sold and got the g44

If you manage to get a red dot cut slide, you'll want the lightest red dot possible. Sig zero is is popular for 22lr pistols.

The only thing I would really be concerned with is that it functions.

I know the Taurus TX22 comes in a 5 inch barrel model and its red dot compatible and very reliable. I have the glock 44 and its awesome but it isn't compatible with a red dot (a company makes a slide but you won't get one in Canada).

I only say this because I get the appeal of buying something that looks like its centerfire counterpart is cool, but if the gun doesn't run well or it doesn't scratch itches you have later your going to be stuck with it.

Its pretty cool you guys found a loop hole, my 22lr is my favorite gun to shoot and I would love to get another one.

Also remember 22lr is filthy ammo so get something you can take apart and clean easily lol

Hi- OP

Reading the "Request for an C-21 Exemption Letter, Handgun Transfer" request form from BCTSA, it asks for 5 requirements.

1. Is a member in good standing of BC Target Sports Association

2. The Specific Discipline is: 25m Pistol

3. Is training for Handgun shooting in a discipline that is on the programme of the International Olympic Committee or the International Paralympic Committee (as above),

4. Is Coached by a NCCP Certified Pistol Coach, (with you needing to provide a name of a coach)

5. Will compete in our upcoming competitions

Requirements 1, 2, and 5 are self explanatory.

Requirements 3, and 4 are the ones I have questions about.

How do I prove I am training and training under a coach?

How am I to go about getting a coach? Is that supposed to be arranged after? Because you said that you have not shot a firearm before, so it's not clicking for me.

Good Luck you won’t get that gun approved by the CFO. Even though you have the exemption letter. That’s not a pistol used in competitions.

Yes but not ANY .22lr they are working with the same sentiment as the gun grab. Nothing scary looking. And competition pistols are quite distinctive

Exactly. The exemption letter comes from the SFC not a provincial body (BC or Ont) and requires proof of training, competition results, membership at a club etc. Nothing the OP posted rings true. But it’s nice to have dreams.

BC Target Association is apparently issuing exemption letters, where as Ontario and other provinces likely need to go through SFC.

Not sure why people are downvoting, I get it’s an obvious answer, but yes. You need an RPAL. Only instance where no PAL is required at all would with antique status pistols.
