News / Politics / Activism New Shooting Range in Mississauga
Pleasantly shocked by this but very happy as a Mississauga resident. Anyone been here yet? My buddy went and had a great time but wanted to see if anyone else has any thoughts

It's a decent facility that spared to expense for a high end air quality management system. They have a really interesting dynamic target program system which is cool and more lanes will open up around June or July.

having seen people pass out and drop loaded guns at target sports over it id say they made the right call. i hope the employees there have their lead levels checked whenever they have bloodwork done.

From Toronto, Ontario as a base of living, all outdoor ranges are pretty far.
I think silverdale is about 2 hours away.

Sharon is a non-profit club owned by its members. To join, you must either purchase a share or rent one from an existing member.
Purchasing a share costs at least $12,000, while rental shares are approximately $700 per year. In addition to these costs, there is an annual club fee of about $700 which include CSSA insurance.
Renting a share, comes out to $120 a month ($700 rental + $700 club fees).
It's currently renewal season at Sharon, so it's pretty easy to get a rental share right now (until July).

Okay that’s not too bad to rent one then, if one was to go shooting regularly.
I don’t have a car as of yet & Bill C-21 screw many of us up so I don’t really have much to play with at the range.
In due time I plan to snag some rifles etc so, I’ll keep Sharon in mind ! Thanks for the reply bud

Hour and fifteen from Mississauga on a good day. Outdoor ranges are just better though. Maybe if I had a handgun it would be worth it.

Yeah I agree they’re better, just distance & (current) gas prices take a toll. Plus they usually have good sniping ranges 50+ yards.
I was thinking of getting a membership for one of them, but it’s tedious from what I’ve heard. Can only get it if a current member accepts you… and idk anybody 😂

For majority gun clubs yes it’s incredibly difficult to get in, long wait list and you need to know somebody who’s already a member. Silverdale has open registration but you have to apply between January and March of the new year. Silverdale has some pretty arbitrary rules but there’s also a lot of idiots that somehow got their PAL so I understand the abundance of caution. Nothing beats shooting trap or on 100+ yard ranges in the fresh air.

I’ve never shot trap before. Only really been to Target sports out in Gormley a bunch of times.
I’d probably apply to Silverdale some time in the future, or Sharon as another Redditor was telling me about in this thread.
It’s just a waiting game for me, personally. Money & the means to travel to & fro !

If you have a shotgun, I can’t recommend it more. You can always book a supervised shoot to give it a try. In the fall they usually provide a hunter sight in deal on the 50 yard range for non members. It’s a really good price I wanna say $20 i can’t confirm that though. You only get access to the 50 yard range. I first did that before I made a decision on membership.
I’m a member and I pay annually but to be honest in the last couple years I’ve only been able to go a few times because I’ve been so busy with work and other aspects of life. I still get my membership to support the range because I know after the handgun freeze and the bans a lot of people cancelled their memberships.

Outdoor ranges are just better though.
i thought the same until we had the winter from hell here this year and a very cold and rainey slow start to spring. aside from all the range shit needed to pack i wouldent want to also have to "armor up" with all the heavy winter gear anytime i want to shoot between december to april.

yeah, that's definitely one of the downsides to living in toronto - the urban sprawl
feels like there's an opportunity in some of these industrial areas near pearson or lakeshore to be converted to bigass indoor ranges, but i know little about the logistics of what that would entail

I've been going since mid November. Really great range, very close to downtown Mississauga.
HVAC is top notch. Owners are solid dudes, as are the RSO's.
They have night vision shooting, coming soon. Ask the owners.
Four lanes for now, but another 8 lanes opening shortly.
Reasonable cost, for how close it is to dowtown Toronto/Mississauga.

sorta funny this placed opened 10min from canada's busiest airport with no fanfare for months now while FOC has been trying to open a range in ajax for years trying to generate shit tons of fanfare and hype with seemingly nothing to show for it. their range has been "about to begin construction" for 7 years now.
only downside i can see is 13 and 17 yards is incredibly short to the point where its hard to gauge accuracy of a gun or shooter that close. doubly so for rifles. like a 100m dash being limited to 3 meters.

Ottawa region really only has 3 ranges since they closed Connaught to civilians. 2 of them are 20-40 minute drive outside the city. The 3rd is rarely open since it shares a space in an expo centre.

Depending on which part of the city you're in, EOSC, Grenville, Stittsville, and SFFC are all within a 40 minute drive. Even Cornwall is only an hour out. For indoor ranges we're a bit more limited between RA Centre and Outaouais.

In only familiar with Smith's Falls, Stittsville, and RA Centre. What are EOSC and Grenville?
I went to Outaouais with a friend once. Luckily he spoke French because nobody there would help us in English :(

Eastern Ontario Shooting Club and Grenville Fish and Game. I'm a member at both and they're both super nice ranges. EOSC is bigger with more ranges, but Grenville has clays and is quiet so you often get a range to yourself which is awesome. Grenville also recently opened a 300m range which is neat.

This is somehow a shorter range then target sports Canada lol. This is good for introducing people to shooting. That’s it.

TSC have something 20 or 25m? Cant remember now. Yes, this is just for "point and pull". Probably will get all bullseyes too. I got no problem with this. However, you cant get any pistols now. 12m is stupid for a rifle; cant even sight it properly at that distance. Shotgun shooting with slugs only. So this is largely a useless range with $700/annually or 70$/monthly plus taxes. $125 initiation fee? You see where Im getting with this?

It’s an awesome place, currently only 4 lanes but will be expanded with an additional 8 lanes hopefully by then end of the year. The owners Chris and Mike are great guys! We do RangeSafety courses for them.

Sad all these new GTA ranges are opening after everything fun to shoot is banned.
Wonder how many more gun owners we could have had in Canada if the GTA had more ranges 10-15 years ago.

Been a member since mid January. Its a great spot. Owners are great as are the range officers. Excited for the new and longer lanes. Love the ventilation system. Gem of a spot for something in the GTA.

Not that busy but I’ve been once where there was a bunch of non members with packages and it was very crowded. I believe the new 8 lanes will be members only so that should help with it

I just go 2.5h north to Crown Land and shoot fuck it, not paying no monthly fees to no range Love shooting outside hot or cold no issues to me 🤙🇷🇸🤙

It makes sense for people who shoot restricteds.
That said, I sure as hell don't like shooting my SKS indoors so crown land is great for that, 100%

I love my sks and my Mosseburg can't shoot on in door, I get my coffe pack up and I go for ride and hike and some shooting I go north of Peterborough Kinmount, ON lot's of Crown Land

I like Crown Land too but ngl would prefer something decent and local for GTA folks instead of needing to go on a mission every time I want to shoot.

The front desk staff is super friendly. The owner Mike and the front desk is why I joined. First time at a range and so far I'm liking it. The range shoot went smooth before I was allowed to join as a member. They will expect you to prove the gun is safe by looking down the bore at muzzle end. Some people don't feel comfortable to do it. I guess they're going by what is taught in the PAL and RPAL.

100%. Like how we were taught in the PAL and RPAL. If the chamber is empty, action is locked open and feeding path is clear... A round isn't going to manifest while you're looking down the bore lol. I still bought a bore light though lol. Even though I won't blow my face off. Still makes me feel uncomfortable lol.

Yeah the location is great. It’s been open since around October last year I think? I’ve been a member since November/December.
Not that big but it’s new clean and employees there are great. I would say it’s great for an indoor range in the GTA. Feel free to comment or DM if you have further questions

If the range has decent ventilation its not too bad. Lots of things are gonna get you in life. I've been to Easthill and it may have the best ventilation ive every seen. You feel a nice draft blowing the fumes downrange away from you. Target has a different approach. They are toughening their users getting them ready for the nuclear apocalypse.
