Buy recommendations Opinions on the Henry Lever Action Supreme Rifle (LASR)?
Hey all. I haven't bought a rifle in years, and I've recently been bit by the Lever action bug. I have never owned one before, nor have I ever fired one, but given the current available rifles, this one appeals to me. I like that it's mag fed, and is available in both 223/5.56 and 300blk as well as that it takes stanag mags.
I'm a left handed shooter, so I'll have to move the rifle away from my face when I cycle the action. I learned that the hard way with a T97 years ago which threw hot brass a long distance and into my face at high velocity). I don't see that as an issue here, but let me know if I'm missing something. If it is an issue would something like a Rossi R92 be better?
I would probably add black furniture and a top rail to the rifle. Who's making aftermarket stuff for these?

Its not a bullpup rifle like the T97, so you won’t have to worry about it throwing brass in your face.
I heard nothing but good things about the Lever Action Supreme, smooth action and accurate. I don’t have experience shooting one, but I have handled them and they feel high quality.
If you’re looking for alternatives too Marlin 1894s are around the same price and much better than a Rossi.

I understand but haven't handled one myself and none of the LGS near me have one unfortunately so I'll probably end up buying online. I haven't looked at Marlins but I did look at the S&W stealth hunter and it's pretty much what I want to end up with other than the way it's loaded.

Where are you located we just had a handful of Supremes land in Stony Plain if you wanted to handle one.
If you have Marlin money do that over the S&W. We have both in but the Marlins cycle much smoother

Unfortunately I’m in SW Ontario. Will try to check out the Marlins. If I may ask, what didn’t you like about the S&W?

Theyre just not as smooth. Some of them clip the hammer too when you cycle, some dont. For the money the Marlins are the move.

Firearms outlet just had a load dumped too... seems supremes are in stock all over currently. I was looking at one, or waiting for the next rifle to drop in the market.

The Henry supreme in 223/556 is really fun and mine is super accurate even with cheap PMC bronze FMJ 223 rounds. It doesn’t like a couple of my metal aftermarket magazines I just bought but it likes 10 round Crossmags.

Good to know the cross mags work. I've got some older metal mags that I'll want to try as well.

You won't have to move your face when cycling the action. The T97 is a bullpup rifle so the ejection port is behind the trigger. With the supreme being a standard rifle, brass is going to eject in further up front. Wordt case, brass will burn your forearm.

Note also that this thing has a plunger ejector, so the ejection pattern's going to be relatively consistent (the case is ejected as soon as it's clear of the receiver).
It doesn't depend on how hard you slam the case into a fixed ejector like it is on most other lever-action designs. You could always mount one of those stick-on AR-15 brass deflectors if you really needed to as well.

I'm sure this isn't a real problem, I mainly shoot pistols, but when I had the T97 I ended up shooting it right handed to adapt to the round ejection point. A lever will obv be different, just trying to cover all the bases.

I ran one for the 2025 battle of Alberta charity 3gun match and I've seen a few others running them since. If I couldn't have a semi auto 223 this is the next best thing. Lever actions generally run faster than most other types. Pumps and straight pull rifles tend to disrupt the shooters point of aim or hold. The Henry supreme let's you keep your eye on the target and the rifle supported while you cycle the action. Theres a reason lever action rifles are sometimes called "the original assault rifle".

I recommend it. I've got the ranger point precision pew view handguard with a magpul angled grip. Its a very nice action, accurate. Recently found out its coming in 450 bushmaster soon too.

I might have to make a road trip to handle one. Doubt I'll go 300blk or 450 bushmaster though. This will be a range rifle.

I got mine as soon as they came out. I have Ranger Point Precision furniture dipped in Tiger Stripe. It is a great rifle. Accurate and fun to shoot. The only negative is that the barrel heats up fast at the range. Otherwise, zero complaints.

Interesting. I'm guessing a m-lok forend might help with the heat?

That will not change the heat build up. The barrel is more for hunting than it is for range use.

I was just thinking a forend with some ventilation might help. Does it get warm enough that I'd have to wear gloves?

You need to buy a forend that completely covers the barrel. This will limit your options somewhat, but the ones that don't cover the barrel are for cosmetics more than practical use- you can't take a modern thumb-over-bore shooting stance if the barrel is uncovered.
After that, it's going to be fine, for the same reason it's fine on AR-15s. In the unlikely event it's still too hot, put some of those rubber rail covers on it.
People complain about "muh heat" with lighter profile barrels, but this is meant to be a practical rifle as opposed to one that is used solely from a seated position at the bench (and if this is all you're doing, you don't want the Henry; the lever will hit the bench and annoy you). There's no reason for it to have anything heavier.
Not that it's inaccurate by any means even when warmed up, of course. It's not like the gun is damaged by doing that; you'd have to pound hundreds of rounds through it in rapid succession to see any actual problem.

The supreme is quite nice. Pretty accurate too, id go the 556 route because 300blk isnt as fun without the proper attachments.
Ranger point and Midwest have aftermarket support (handguard, stocks etc).
