If only Canada has Swiss/Czech gun laws. That would’ve allow Companies like ATRS to give Canadian gun owners an afforadable alternative to more expensive American/European imports. This govt is forcing all of us to “buy Canadian” yet is closing up Canadian businesses with regulations that make it impossible to create/sell products here at home while forcing us to buy from Europe & China.

24

u/PotatoFondler May 06 '26

She’s gonna line up all her pop cans and gopher friends to party it up.

u/gunpowdergin69 May 08 '26

So she is a duck by process of elimination...

Wow. What a sad day for the industry they truly were a solid manufacturer.

"Buy Canadian! Support Canadian businesses!" - Liberals

"Can we have quality build firearms for hunting and sports shooting built by a Canadian -ma and pa - business?" - law-abiding firearms owners

"No Not those Canadian businesses!" - Liberals cherry picking again.

23

u/vARROWHEAD May 06 '26

Very sad

Always wanted one and never had the chance

Another Canadian owners business destroyed by the LPC, they truly are a plague on Canada 😢

I do not like to see any independent Canadian business fail, especially one that had so much strong engineering and manufacturing skill base. The Modern series were really nice rifles, they should be commended for designing and building some great equipment in a country that has produced some lemon firearm designs/builds.

That it looks like they kept customer order money from deposits for banned items that hadn't had any service or material ordered definitely appears shady - their customers are trying to get by just like them. I will edit this part of comment if I am proven wrong and apologize.

I went there a few times pre 2018 when I lived there. They had very high end stuff at the time. Now, we are witnessing the rich disarming the people. There is no other excuse or explanation for what we are witnessing in this country. It's dark times, and I feel terrible for that family. Many legacies are being lost to our governments corruption.

Long live the Modern Sporter/Hunter,

The best receiver set ive ever owned

Just remember FRT is NOT LAW!

u/Icy-Veterinarian8662 May 06 '26

Huge loss. ATRS made incredible stuff.

7

u/FedInformant May 06 '26

Such a shame.

9

u/thecoolernameistaken May 06 '26

Damn. What a fucking shit hole we’ve become

10

u/Longjumping_Deer3006 May 06 '26

I guess this is how polysesouvient destroys gun ownership in Canada.

9

u/blueline731 May 06 '26

Horrible news. Great guys over there. What a shame man. Keep buying Canadian as much as you can.

7

u/RelationEmpty May 06 '26

They will be sorely missed :(

11

u/Lagtense May 06 '26

Those guys were the GOATs

4

u/AdeptArt May 06 '26

NOOOOOOOOO

This is a sad day. They made quality. RIP.

4

u/_MlCE_ May 06 '26

Im out $500 of my downpayment for a Modern Sporter receiver that I preordered back in 2020...

2

u/Lagtense May 06 '26

These guys lost the business

7

u/_MlCE_ May 06 '26

I wanted to support them, I really do.

But I wasnt given the option for a refund, or an option to convert the money to buy anything else.

I used to email every year asking what the status of the order was, but they kept giving me the run around...

6 months turned to a year, turned to 2, turned to 4 and nothing to show for it.

They didnt even publicly announce they lost their case (they got sued by a customer when the 2020 bans happened - theres a pages long thread on CGN).

Anyways in 6 years I've seen them say their hands are tied. Then change their website. Then start making other things. Then start doing lottery/sticker draws for rifles over the past few years. None looked sustainable to be honest.

2

u/Styrak May 08 '26

I would say if it dragged on that long it's your fault you didn't get your money back.

2

u/Beginning_Tale3426 May 15 '26

Not sure how that’s reasonable to say when everyone that asked for a refund was told specifically that the funds were held in limbo while their court proceedings were active..

1

u/Beginning_Tale3426 May 08 '26

I came across a posting on FB that supposedly customers with losses may be contacted by mail from the bankruptcy trustee. Just relaying info seen, can’t confirm for sure.

1

u/ClueExtreme May 15 '26

Just received a Creditor notification package with list of potential creditors and Assets/Liabilities from the Trustee.

2

u/ClueExtreme May 08 '26

$2k for me. Screw that guy that got pissy and reported them to the CFO.

1

u/Revolutionary_Tear19 May 13 '26

ex law enforcement officer took offense to atrs when he moved to alberta.

11

u/CAFirearmSociety May 06 '26

Did you guys ever return the money to those who paid for guns before the ban, and wanted a refund?

1

u/PvM_Rev May 06 '26

Well time to stock up on scope rings on the secondary market

They were selling precision bolt guns post 2020. They were also selling Ruger PC kits....until those were also banned.

22

u/ItchYouCannotReach May 06 '26

Precision bolt actions builds funded the modern sporter R&D for them before it hit market as well as development for the ruger pcc chassis they had. But those 2 products were more widely popular than their bolt gun builds before the bans.

u/WeightedDips95 May 06 '26

Imagine blaming a small gun company that constantly gets its products banned for closing shop

-1

u/LurkerGarry May 06 '26

Imagine continuing to purchase product that you can’t sell hoping a political party wins you can make massive profits from marking up your stored product and being outraged when you lose your gambit.

It’s like the toilet paper hoarders all over again.

Ruger PC9 was banned in 2024. Not sure why youre so eagerly trying to downplay the Liberals' role in a beloved manufacturer shutting down.

Its funny that liberals always preach making life easier and better for everyone but then when the rubber hits the road with their shit policies they become ruthleslly individualistic and blame you. No house? Not working hard enough. No job? Wouldnt be an issue if youre aa top 1% elite programmer or CEO. Business cant survive? Your fault for not being a business whiz with savant-level instincts on how to pivot and not only survive constantly changing regulatory environment, but make it worth-while.

9

u/Cope180-Enjoyer May 06 '26

Cringiest take we all here have ever heard. Liberals are just bad government runners.

5

u/WeightedDips95 May 06 '26

No, you don’t understand. Literally nothing is ever their fault! We’re in a series of global crises for the last 11 years! But also the Liberals are the ones with the plan! Carney is a crisis man! Trust him with a crisis! But also it’s never his fault when things go wrong! But they are the ones to Meet the MomentTM and build Canada strong! But don’t blame them when they don’t! What don’t you understand??? Just have schiprhenic amnesia

Not a closet liberal. Just immune to tribalist bullshit that people fall for on Facebook and faceless content.

Continue worshiping your false idols. I’m a real conservative. Our party has fallen far from the Harper era. It’s embarrassing.

-22

u/LurkerGarry May 06 '26

Going to be an unpopular opinion but I agree. Adapt to change.

31

u/WeightedDips95 May 06 '26

its an unpopular opinion because its ignorant. They did try to pivot. Pivoting production is an expensive gamble and theres no guarantee it'll be succesfull. Doubly so because other products they pivoted to got banned as well, like their Ruger chasis.

-1

u/LurkerGarry May 06 '26

Gambling on Conservatives winning an election so you can sell your weapon stock is my definition of ignorance. They lost. Now they’re holding onto “illegal” weapon stock they were banking on offloading, likely for big profits, when they become legal.

But like I said, it’s an unpopular opinion on this sub.

2

u/WeightedDips95 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

But they did try to adapt though, contrary to what you’re saying. Not that they even need to. They could have not tried and gone belly up sooner and it would still be the moronic Liberals’ fault that a productive well regarded Canadian manufacturer had to close its doors.

I’m glad, at least here, trying to pass another Liberal failure off on something else is rightly regarded as dumb.

Actually insane that someone on here can see the concerted effort from the Liberals to kill the culture and the industry and to blame the small business. Maybe you’re an entrepreneurial genius though and you’ve had your whole product lineup arbitrarily banned by a brain dead government and you persevered and know more than everyone though..

Thanks for the unhelpful opinion. Here's mine, maybe you should get a better job.

22

u/WeightedDips95 May 06 '26

You probably cant afford one for the same reason they have to close down
