Milsurps / Prohib How is reliability of the "French Tickler" SKS when used with soft points?
I was considering PPU PSP, but it seems to be sold out just about everywhere so S&B is my second choice.

in fairness i have heard sometimes of SKS piercing primers or ripping off case rims when using soft commercial ammo for babies. they are made to work with shitty steel milsurp stuff.

I know there are a handful of bolt guns that run 7.62x39, but does any manufacturer expect it to not be run in an SKS/AK/whatever?

i dont think they really care. insofar as they arent going to get special primers and brass just for their 7.62x39 ammo. it will use the same components they use to make all their other rifle rounds

Its not uncommon for SKS rifles to seldom have a FTF with HPs and SP bullets. Ive seen it happen to both factory and bubba'ed SKS rifles. The feed ramps aren't quite forgiving enough for anything but FMJs.
Big emphasis on "seldom" tho, keep that in mind. Its hardly something that would keep me from buying it for my SKS.... I just wouldn't trust my life to it feeding (lol reminds me of this SKS bear hunt I once had).

No issue with either in my unmodded tickler, plenty fine for slapping gongs if your range won’t allow steel core.

S&B is one of the premier budget ammunition brands, most people who do groups can attest to it's consistency.

My RaR gen 2, CTR, and savage 110 all love the ammo. Honestly I wish that more stores stocked the different loads they make.

I can attest to the opposite, some of the worst groups in my skses and Lee enfield are with S&B. Their .44 mag is also small pistol primed which makes it useless for reloading

Just sighted mine in with the stubby ppu soft points went to same point of aim as my surplus at 100 just a little better grouping

my Ruger American Ranch hated those stubby ppu soft points, constant failures to feed

The “spitzer” (pointy) type soft points are fine but the round nose ones don’t feed well. Like Murray said, the feed ramps need a bullet profile similar to the fmjs.

They're spire point soft points. The gun won't even know. Everything the rifling touches is jacketed.

I bought one box of this stuff and only shot maybe 8 rounds. Had squibs failure to fires and worst I had two rounds that fired and the case broke in half with the back half ejecting then the next round would get jammed inside the front half of the broken one. The gun has never had a single issue with any other ammo I've used. I got a bad box. I gave the remailing to a guy at my LGS and he saw some defects in them. Sample size of one box.

S&B I’ve seen is inconsistent (have had two squibs and bad groups), ppu I have never had a failure to fire, extract or anything groups fairly consistently too

I’ve had a lot of failure to fire (about 30%) using s&b in a French tickler—it’s like the primers are too hard for it.
