Gun and gear reviews Backland hunter with gen 2 parts very reliable

Was pleasantly surprised by the backland hunter. The Gen 2 bolt carrier, recoil spring make all the difference. The trigger group is properly secured now so it won’t walk itself out. Fired 150 rounds of pmc 5.56 fmj without a single issue or hiccup. And yes I’m aware of my Amazon acog lol Just got the rifle and been dying to test it out. Sig sauer Lpvo hasn’t arrived yet.

150 rounds…reliable.

This sub man

It survived 5 mags without a catastrophic failure. Surely its good to go /s

Honestly i think our 5 round mags mags make people feel more confident in these low round counts because with all the reloading it feels like it’s more. If we had standard capacity mags nobody would be saying 5 mags is good to go.

Wah wah. Another 300 rounds of m855 thru it this morning.

u/some_guy2024 May 03 '26

You just have to take this data point as what it is, ie this particular rifle is reliable for 150rnds. It’s not reasonable to expect the average guy to run 1k rounds through a new rifle in short order (and I say that as a guy who did pretty much that in every non-milspec platform from the OIC to now).

Another 300 rounds through the rifle this morning without any malfunction

These are absolute dogwater. Yours seems to run fine, and I’m happy for you, but go on CGN and read all the threads about people struggling to make these function. They are fundamentally flawed rifles built by a company that has nothing but a history of awful QC. Also 150 rounds without failures really isn’t much. Classic Reddit reliability review LOL

That thread is focused on the gen 1 parts mostly. This rifle has the gen 2 bolt carrier and recoil buffer spring which makes all the difference. Anyone with gen 1 parts can send their rifle to crusader to have it refitted with gen 2 parts. 150 rounds is pretty solid considering I wasn’t expecting it to even work and I’m sure this thing could go through 1000 rounds easily. I don’t see why not. I literally did not have a single malfunction. Edit. Another 300 rounds this morning without issue. So that’s 450 now without issue. Seems pretty promising. Enjoy your bolt action

“Enjoy your bolt action” LOL buddy 90% of this country is barren. I’m enjoying whatever semi I want to enjoy :) and it sure as shit isn’t some scab rifle like this.

Those proprietary 5 round mags are an abomination. I guess they made too much for the now banned Crypto and they are trying to recoup their losses lol. I bet those barrels are also Crypto barrels. Handguards too.

5

u/some_guy2024 May 03 '26

In their defence they have to use the proprietary 5 rnd mags to comply with whatever that idiotic law (C-21?) our scumbag ruling party passed. Semi-auto firearms designed after 2023(I think?) need to only accept 5 rnd (ie not-Stanag) mags. You can (and should) do the same mag well mod as for the Crypto to run Stanag mags.

2

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

They must have fixed their magazines. Seem to work really good now. However still doing the pmag mod

5

u/LeeFrann May 03 '26

When are people in the subreddit going to realize 100-200 rounds is not a burndown. After the first 2000 you actually know how reliable a firearm is. Type81 I love you and I miss you eating tin can after tin can of Chinese surp.

4

u/Lurch_902 May 03 '26

I miss x39 surp being readily available.

4

u/TryInitial2042 May 03 '26

You are missing a 0.

Anyone claiming 0 malfunctions should be ignored

Still used by India, Bulgaria, and the french GIGN field it for CQC in the Bren 2.

It's not perfect but by no means obsolete.

2

u/some_guy2024 May 03 '26

Depends on what your idea of “the average shooter” is. A competent, knowledgeable shooter (or one with some amount of training) can be effective to 400yds with a platform in 7.62x39 provided he uses an aiming system that allows for that (good red dot+magnifier) especially if you’re talking man-sized targets. Most people also think an AR/.223 semi is a 300yds and in platform 🙄

2

u/some_guy2024 May 03 '26

That’s a bit of a stretch, T81s are a 3-5moa gun but still plenty effective past 100yds. I have video of me hitting a 2/3 IPSC (12”x18”) at 625 yds 5 out of 10rnds with a T81 (with a 2-10x optic) and I’d routinely hit 12” plates out to 400yds with an Eotech and a 6x magnifier. I only ever fed it the cheapest chicom surplus 🤷🏼‍♂️

Good luck hitting anything accurately at distance with an ancient rifle

1

u/InspectorCivil6220 May 06 '26

Type 81 is a newer design than the AR15 that you’re desperate to own.

3

u/NewWatchTime May 03 '26

I love how crusader turned their instagram comments off lol. Tells you everything you need to know about this rifle.

2

u/Sudden-Tone3983 May 03 '26

can you do a video of us cycling at least 500 rounds without issue?

1

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Yes I will try to get that done for you guys. I did another 300 rounds this morning. But next time I go to the range I can create a proper video

2

u/Timelesturkie May 03 '26

Maybe let us know when you’ve ran 2000+ rounds through it, you virtually haven’t used it at all.

4

u/ManWithAChainsaw May 03 '26

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I took mine apart before firing for the first time and removed a few metal shavings. I've also been running the pmc 5.56 and it shot just fine. I do wonder just how many people on this sub that hate this gun have actually handled and fired this gun. Then again, maybe we just won the lottery.

6

u/LeeFrann May 03 '26

Crusader arms as a bad company that makes bad firearms on hype alone.

2

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

I don’t think many have handled it. My buddy was unlucky enough to get one with gen 1 parts. Crusader gave him a label to ship it back. They serviced it with new parts sent it back free of charge and it works fine

4

u/nexthigherassy May 03 '26

Classic post ban r/Canadaguns.

"My type81/AR15/bren/tavor/whatever ran thousands of rounds with no issues. Your just trying to justify buying crap!"

Kid's just happy to have something to play with and you fudds can't handle it so you shit all over him.

Keep discouraging new shooters and we won't have any more. Your guns are banned now. We might get em back someday but for now they're gone. Get over it and move forward.

If you don't buy Canadian we won't have any businesses left when the day comes these bans get lifted. I'm not excusing the companies' track record, just let the kid have his fun.

2

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Haha thanks. Thats how I feel. I just wanna shoot some 5.56 that’s not a bolt action. Growing up shooting my dad’s Ar-15s was awesome and the backland hunter is as close as I can get to that right now. Besides maybe the MK-15 if that even ever sees the light of day. These guys aren’t gonna discourage me though. I love shooting. These guys are just a bunch of crybabies

2

u/platinumresto May 03 '26

Agreed dude, so fucking annoying. "Oh my god 150 rounds doesn't count as a real review, you don't know anything"

buddy shot 150 rounds out of his gun, what did you do today? You went and blew 1000 bucks and shot 2000 rounds? Congrats? Get bent

Guy had a hell of a time, shot his gun 150 times and went home happy, who gives a fuck

1

u/InspectorCivil6220 May 06 '26

The standards of the few shouldn’t become the standards of the many. Nobody should be happy to pay 2000 plus tip plus tax for this mechanical hermaphrodite. If we keep buying these BAD cope rifles they keep making them to low standards. Everybody should demand better from Crusader Arms.

1

u/nexthigherassy May 06 '26

So tell them. Send these manufacturers emails telling them they made a product you feel is below the acceptable standard. But before you do, are you basing your opinions on personal experience or are you parroting the opinions of the other nay-sayers in this subreddit who also have never experienced these products? This subReddit is a small group but it is visible to a large community overall. The decisions of a large community can be influenced by the opinions of a much smaller group of vocal individuals. I'd wager the number of people who buy these guns and enjoy them seldom have the time or energy to share their experiences. Meanwhile people with minimal/no exposure to these products are more than willing to share the negative experiences and opinions of the few who have. In short, when someone gets burned by a product they are more likely to post about it because negativity is naturally a better motivator. While someone with a good experience is less likely to post about it because they are happy and busy enjoying their new toy. The urge to shit talk a substandard product is usually greater than the urge to tell everyone how happy they are with something. Especially when a person sees a post from a satisfied customer and all the comments are from negative individuals telling them that the new rifle they bought for a lot of money is actually trash dispute their current experience. Negativity is a cancer eating this community. We are becoming our own worst enemy.

1

u/InspectorCivil6220 May 06 '26

If the company making this cared about what people think of their product they wouldnt have a long storied history of making trash cope rifles. Were you here for their .308s exploding? This rifle should be priced at $900. You really think people getting into this hobby in this country should be hoping to own one of these someday? No. They should have higher standards. If you want to get through to a FOR PROFIT business, you do it with your wallet. You don’t do so by encouraging others to try their shitty products out and saying “just voice your complaints to those highway robbery guys you got it from”

And yes I have fired one! It hardly ran! It felt cheap, nothing was solid, the machining and finish weren’t up to par for a $2000 rifle. Remember when $2000 could get you a type 81 and two crates of ammo? Remember when it could get you an SVT and leave you $500 in the bank to buy ammo with? Do you remember when you could buy Armalite AR180s? G36s? SL8s? Do I need to go on? Forgive me for being negative, but when you see what people could once buy compared to what they’re practically forced to aspire to today, it’s hard to be positive buddy :) this rifle is a heap, the same way the WK180s were, and the M+M M10x was, the only thing is that this is even less functional and costs FAR more. Not a single person would look twice at this if they had options, and that’s why people should be angry. Demand better.

No it’s not

1

u/Beautiful_Yellow_582 May 03 '26

Where did you buy the parts?

1

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Mine came with them luckily. If you have gen 1 parts and having issues you should contact crusader arms. You can find their email on their instagram. They’ll pay for the rifle to be shipped back to them and have the rifle serviced with the gen 2 parts and send it back to you free of charge

1

u/ConstructionOk4528 May 03 '26

Nice rifle bro but you gotta add a pistol grip I hate that hunter stock it has 🥲

1

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Oh I know me too. So ugly. I have a black aces m4 pistol grip and adjustable stock I’m putting on in the next few days here. (Pretty sure it’s the same stock as the elite version) along with a sig sauer lpvo, plan on getting it to take standard p mags as well

1

u/some_guy2024 May 03 '26

Curious to see what kinda precision you get with it. I did some precision testing on a buddy of mine’s and it did poorly with 55s (4moa+) but outstanding with 75s (1moa)

2

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

It seemed pretty solid to me. I was using a shitty Amazon acog but pretty accurate over all. Real test will be with the lpvo

1

u/NeruLight May 03 '26

Don’t listen to the fudds you have it in your hands so you know what you got . It looks alright to me! Nice shooting

u/justinoff May 03 '26

Bro couldnt wait between the crypto and makasi. Worst gun for 2k. Convince me otherwise

5

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

The crypto has been banned for awhile, and I have pre ordered the makasi MK-15 as well. You do know you can have more than 1 gun right? And what makes this gun so terrible?

0

u/justinoff May 03 '26

Materials used is cheap compared to something of similar price. Nothing is milspec on crusader arms products. The aluminum receiver to the imported parts. Cheaper aluminum, mid barrel, poorly designed action all for 2k. The garbage just compounds to over priced metal

5

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Seems to work great for me

4

u/justinoff May 03 '26

Im sure it works fine. For me a gun over 1.5k needs to have something good about it. At the price point it is, its just a ‘meh’………but THAT MAKASI THO 👀

9

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Times are weird in Canada right now with the libs. There’s people paying 1000$ for an sks which in my opinion is even crazier. masaki will be nice. I’m excited for it. Should hopefully be here beginning to mid summer. Get your point though. 2000$ is almost the price of a Daniel defence mk18 which clears both of those out of the water

1

u/some_guy2024 May 03 '26

There just aren’t any options these days. The Turkish guns are reliable-ish but suffer from a wandering zero (in my experience) due to how the barrel attaches. Those and the Crusader are the only 2 options available to us in mag fed semi-auto .223s. It’s great to be amped for the Makasi (I am) but it’s not available yet and honestly might never be. It’d be naive to think it couldn’t have its FRT changed at the last minute. Hopefully not since I plan to buy one but it’s reasonable to expect the worst with our current overlords. So if a guy wants to shoot a mag-fed .223 and stay on the right side of the (garbage) law, this is kinda it for the time being.

2

u/Vsatbtw May 03 '26

Agreed. I pre ordered the mk-15 but am going to be shocked if it actually ever makes it to me. I’m expecting to get a full store credit refund 😂
