How does this affect new trappers? As far as I knew they were the only “civilians” allowed to carry a handgun on the trap line with a special permit.

Now they can’t own them at all?

I think I've heard of people recently applying successfully for a handgun permit for wilderness work. It has to be a job where you basically work in very remote areas. Like certain mining related jobs, or wilderness guides.

I don't know the details about the application process anymore though
