I was checkin these out, how do you find it?

Its fun to shoot! It's pretty loud and the recoil isn't bad. I just like old guns haha. The bolt is stiff, way better than a Mosin but nowhere near a Masuer 98.

The enbloc clips kind of suck, the rounds don't like to stay seated in there. But I can find ammo at Canadian tire so I won't complain.

No regrets on my end! 🤙

Be forewarned, modern 6.5mm ammo isn't sized to the old Italian army specs. The projectile that is used nowadays (at least by Prvi, though I haven't found anyone else making 6.5x52mm ammo) is nominally 0.264 inches, while the original spec is 0.268. This doesn't have an effect on the function of the rifle, but they end up not being especially accurate as a result.

So it's the same problem I face with my Enfield, it would love 212 grains but the heaviest I can reliably find is 180. Maybe that's why I see the carcano on sale so often.

Not really the same problem. The 0.004 inch difference in diameter for the Carcano rounds means modern ammo doesn't make full contact with the rifling as it travels down the barrel.

While you may not be able to find the projectile weight you'd like for your Enfield, both the 212 and 180 grain projectiles are still made to the same diameter and will both make full contact with the rifling.

Carcanos are often on sale or are simply cheap due to the condition a lot of them are in as well as the lack of demand for them, which would partly be due to the reputation of being inaccurate, and partly due to lack of ammunition variety. Prvi is the only company I've ever seen make it, so unless you cast your own you're stuck with bullets that wobble down the barrel. EDIT: Or as a comment further down has mentioned, Budget Shooter Supply does have the proper projectiles for reloading

Which is a bit of a shame as they're smooth and reliable rifles that have fairly light recoil.

Apologies for the long reply, but I hope it helps.

Not the exact problem no but the supplies it was made for are no longer in production is the same problem.

That doesn't suprise me, it's not very accurate. I just chalked that up to me being terrible with it haha. It's still fun to shoot!

Oh I totally agree with you there, loved shooting mine. As much as it has the issue with the ammo, it's still rather reasonably priced for milsurp ammo.

They have so much history, especially the hex receivers. For the price of Milsurps today you just can’t go wrong with a Carcano.

Hell yeah! It's cool to have, my safe is going to be a museum in no time.

Same model used on JFK?

Not quite, that one had no bayonet and had an added scope side mount and scope. Similar barrel length and caliber though

What’s the purpose of the barrel looking thing under the actual barrel

Integral folding spike bayonet

You can get dies to reload and save big on ammo, Budget Shooter supply has the proper .268 bullets.

I made 100 rounds with them and it was WAY more accurate and not shooting so goofy high like it was with boxed .264PPU ammo

Haha that is exactly my issue too, way high. That is good to know!

This is fantastic to hear, I hadn't heard of anyone even making the proper bullets. Makes me glad to have been saving my brass.

I saw one at CT the other day and really want one because it reminds me of how fun my first shitbox car was and it looks like a shitbox car, but I don't reload and I can still feed my SKS $0.36 food.

I regret getting rid of my SKS. I want another but they are way too expensive.

The same CT had a couple Mosins for $850. Surplus is still pretty cheap for them and they're the SKS's cool Uncle.

Haha yeah I want one of those, if the right one comes along I am doing it.
