I've been enjoying Crimson Desert. It also scratches the exploration itch.

I FEEL QUITE HUNGRY!!!!

11

u/Pelcat Apr 29 '26

Funny that this thing is restricted by law but it's a pipe on a stick, lol.

13

u/Spread-Hour Apr 29 '26

The barrel length makes it restricted but iirc the OAL (and the obvious sign its not a pistol) makes it a long-gun; and the fact its a "matchlock" muzzleloader makes it antique

4

u/Pelcat Apr 29 '26

You're right, just gotta stick it to a long enough stick and it's good to go, lol.

2

u/Spread-Hour Apr 29 '26

3

u/Eisenbahn-de-order Apr 29 '26

2

u/Spread-Hour Apr 30 '26

15th century handgonne. (Handgun in modern English, although 'gun' and 'cannon' were used interchangeably so most people call it a handcannon)

They were used between 1288 (earliest example of a handcannon) and the very early 1500s.

There was a slow evolution from the pipe on a stick, nailing a piece of metal to the pipe on a stick (cradled in wood!), to a longer pipe in a stock that you put on your shoulder and rest on an aiming fork, to eventually us having hand-held shoulder fired matchlocks. Although this evolution happened slowly and in patches. For example, some gonnes had stocks but were ignited by hand, and some didnt have stocks but had serpentine triggers. In China handgonnes were even used amongst 'modern' matchlock muskets! Some flintlocks even!!
