Misc Range safety semi no bolt hold open

I have a Marlin 89c .22 semi that doesn’t have a bolt hold open. When we clear benches is it common to just use a chamber flag?

Yes, get a chamber flag in bright green or bright orange. They cost next to nothing (many companies send you them for free when you order something) and they make it super clear for everyone on the range your rifle is safe. Some ranges make it mandatory because it proves that the barrel is empty in addition to bolt open and magazine removed, an extra security feature!

Or just get a pack of the weed whacker refills and cut them to size. That's what our range use.

Or a zip tie

IMO yes. I've seen too many open bolts with casings still in the barrel that you can't see until you get right up the rifle.

Chamber flags are mandatory at several ranges i go too for this reason.

One of the ranges I used to go to allowed weed Wacker string for chamber flags. It's fluorescent and can be cut long enough it's very obvious that the rifle has a flag in it
