Savage model 42, combo gun in .22mag/.410.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about these which makes me kind of sad, I have a not exceptionally well taken care of Model 24 in the family that was built really well and still works a damn. It's sad that they essentially kept gutting it to keep it economical until it became maligned.

From 24 to 42 really is backward development.

Cant say im surprised. I dont own one but the outdoors shop i work at has one in stock, and i received it and set it on display. First impressions were not great. Cheap feel overall, uncomfortable economics, and the two filthiest barrels i have ever seen come from the factory. Almost looked as though they sprayed matte paint down the bore

Yea my plastic sights couldn’t even be adjusted to zero, and the front sight/barrel clamp doesn’t even belong on a pellet gun. I tried putting a rail on it to mount a red dot but it has a chin hover instead of a cheek weld. I won’t even sell it, because it’s that bad.

It’s a shame too, I love the idea of a combo gun, maybe one day I’ll buy a Chiappa double badger…

Damn. I did tell my boss i had doubts about the quality of this one, the double badger would've been my pick any day. I think they're cheaper too?

A new model or an old one? I’ve been wanting an old one in 20 gauge and .22wmr for ages. Can never find one under $800 though and at that price point I might as well buy something more “fun”

It seems I’ve been mixing those two numbers up my entire life. Now it makes sense why I can’t find one lol
