Fix my gun Difficult extraction on a Mosin Nagant. Solutions ?

Reluctantly bought a generic *run of mill* 91/30 for an embarrassing price. It has a frosty bore, but otherwise seemed to be in good - great condition with pronounced rifling.

I thoroughly cleaned the gun including the barrel and chamber.

The bolt cycles buttery smooth, chambers and extracts unfired rounds fluidly. But when fired, I gotta halfass slap the bolt up and partially back before the spent casing will properly extract.

To improve extraction, does this sound like something a good chamber polishing would solve ? Or is there some other quirky Mosin remedy I'm unaware of ?

As noted previously, this is fairly standard on wartime production Mosins.

While a polishing might help, the issue usually is with the ammo. Surplus ammo was often covered in a lacquer and the original russian manual does say to clean and lightly oil (seriously) the ammo before using. Different ammo whether steel or brass "fits" differently in the chamber and this really does matter to Mosins.

Interesting. I have not seen laquered Mosin food, only SKS.

So OP could throw a box of brass soft points through it and if they don't hang up, probably surplus laquer to blame then.

I should've mentioned it was using brass cased S&B 180gr SPs.

Experiment with steel surplus and see if the problem follows! 😂

Moldova has finally formally requested that russian military forces leave Transnistra so there may be an enormous amount of surplus X54r coming soon to a store near you. IF the russians actually do leave Cobasna

My money is on Russia claiming the Moldovan government are Nazis persecuting Russia speakers and then "seperatists" with no insignia on uniform annex Transnistra.

But if they politely left and all that 54r ended up here that would be pretty tits.

Huh. I didn't even know that was in the original manual and I've just been doing it for years.
