News / Politics / Activism Firearms Buyback Declaration Reopens for businesses APRIL 23 2026 - What could this mean for the Makasi MK-15?
I hope this is not the case, however could this somewhat sudden extension of the buyback scheme for businesses be a way of allowing the government to add more semi auto sporting rifles such as the MK-15 and others to the list that were not present with the original list?
The MK-15 is not even in the hands of legal gun owners yet. So my concern is that they may try and sneak a ban in at the last second to steal them from stores before they even reach shelves. The deadline for the buyback extension for dealers is early June which would somewhat add up with when the Makasi MK-15 is supposed to land for pre order buyers.
Please let me know your guys thoughts on this, I hope I am just being paranoid.

Mods, can we just auto-lock any more of these “is the Makasi going to get banned” threads? It’s like every other post at this point.
None of us know whats going to happen. No one has a crystal ball. The cynical view (and likely realist view) is it goes the way of the Crypto. The optimistic view is they don’t ban it until the next round of vote buying, I mean, bans in Quebec.

Why are they extending the buy back for businesses then? I’m not just asking the question about “will the MK-15 be banned” They already got the firearms from the dealers a long time ago and the dealers have to comply since they literally wouldn’t be in business if they didn’t. Why would they reopen the buy back for dealers all of the sudden if not to get rifles that weren’t in Canada prior to the first business buy back.

Because they got DISMAL compliance from both business and citizens.

This. The numbers they got were embarrassing and they were hammered by the press to the point Nathalie had a breakdown on live broadcast. If they can get that compliance number closer to that 128k goal they will do it.

Because Stage 1 of the business buyback is for May 2020 OIC guns. 2024/25 OIC guns are stage 2. Public Safety Canada literally announced this front and center on their website when stage 1 opened.

You are fear mongering with baseless information that have already been clearly communicated by Public Safety Canada. Stage 2 of the Business Buyback was planned and announced months in advance.

Im of the opposite mind. I have a feeling theyre injecting cash flow into these businesses to get them a bit healthier for if/when the ccfr win their supreme court challenge of the OiC. Alot of dealers are still sitting on millions of dead stock, and have been for years. I know some other stores around me are still sitting on inventory so no, not everyones been paid out yet. The whole roll out of this has been a huge mess.

This means nothing. The Phase 2 for business buyback encompasses guns in the 2024/2025 OIC, versus Phase 1's 2020 OIC.
The Makasi is in neither of them, so even if it's banned overnight, it would not be eligible for buyback.

Thats the thing... Any new bans will just require more administrative bullshit. More grace periods, more buyback attempts, more bad PR, more fiasco... Poly really pushed the Libs into setting an unsustainable precendent. My hope is that becomes the downfall of all this hubris.
