Buy recommendations What’s a good cost per round for .22LR (including shipping)?

Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to .22LR and trying to figure out what a good price per round actually is.

I’m looking at CCI Mini-Mag and my local Bass Pro Shops has it on sale for about $0.13/round if I pick it up in-store.

I’ve seen cheaper prices online, but once I factor in shipping, it seems to come out the same or even more.

Is $0.13/round considered a good deal these days for Mini-Mags? Or should I wait and hunt for better pricing?

Also curious, what do you personally consider a “buy now” price per round (after shipping)?

I usually go from .10 to .15 per rnd seems pretty good to me.. Usually cci mini mags or federal falls in that category

dont buy federal bulk 36 or 40gr ammo made in the last 3 years. its crap quality now and tends to be underloaded. Blazer is still okay

Unwelcome news. Federal bulk 36gr was the only thing I’ve found that cycles my gsg 1911 somewhat reliably. Everything else fails to cycle every other round.

I've found this too. Ran like shit in my Savage 64 and TM22. Very inconsistent velocity too, audible variation (supersonic vs subsonic rounds), tons of misfires. Never bought it again since buying one big box and it was painful to go through it with the rate of failures and inconsistent velocity. Probably had 1 failure to fire every 10rd.

Aguila is my go to, bought a bunch at close to 0.05/Rd on sale and it runs well in all 3 rifles.

Now and then you can find a box of 5000 (10 bricks) for about $550 ($0.11) but you rarely get better than that.

I got 10 bricks of 525 for 510 after tax last year, it's 8 or 9¢ a round, since I couldn't use my gsg I still have some left, should last another 2 months, est 2000 rounds... Ish, but yea need another Cabela's sale

Bass pro has crazy shipping prices for ammo which they dont tell you until days later. Go with a local gun shop.

For the cheapest ammo, around <$0.10 per round. For CCI Mini Mag, <$0.13 per round. CCI Stinger <$0.15. Match grade ammo ... too pricy for me.

Some buik ammo like Federal Automatch is around $0.083 a round. Agulia Super Extra is about $0.093 a round.

I prefer Norma Tac-22 ammo. A local store has it at $7.40/50 or $0.148 per round, which is alright, but you can buy bulk lots of 5000 from online retailers for $0.116 per round as of the best available price right now, which is about 23% less than the single box price.

Yes, Federal can be had for cheaper. Other brands can be had for cheaper. But what good is cheaper ammo if you need to use 3x as much of it to hit what you're aiming at? What you need to do is buy a few boxes of half a dozen-ish brands and go see which ones work best with your gun in particular. I made the mistake of buying 1500 rounds of Federal copper coated hollow-points without testing it first and maybe 1 in 3 shots goes anywhere near where I'm aiming it, the rest all exit the barrel and laugh at me as they go wherever the hell they want. The Norma stuff is bang on, every time. Are you sure that CCI is what works best with your rifle(s)? I wouldn't buy bulk without being confident of that fact in advance.

Much like other manufacturers, not all are created equal. I love Federal for my centerfire rounds, but always have issues with their 22 rounds.  I've have good luck with AGUILA and CCI. Look for the boxes of 550 for best prices. Keep a note on your phone for ammo prices so you can watch the prices everytime you go to buy, see what you previously bought it for and from where.

13c per round is average. If you browse a variety of brands, they range between 10 & 20 c per round. I have never bought online, so I can't speak to that. But I doubt that I would easily do it.

In terms of brands, CCI is good, but don't limit yourself to them. Aguilas are good, as are Remington, Federal, and Winchester. Depending on what your gun type is, it may require a particular point type (lead vs copper), or a particular velocity (semi-autos do better with a high or ultra high velocity, as the gas pressure moves the action). So try a variety would be my recommendation.

Also, Bass Pro does match prices, provided that the other place you are looking at has it in stock. So check Tenda, G4C, FOC, and International Shooting Supplies to see their prices. From what I have seen, the cheapest price per round was a 500-rd box of Aguila copper points for $49.99 (10c/round) from ISS. Good luck!

I think that’s pretty reasonable. Sometimes there’s pretty good deals at my Canadian tire but regular price for stuff like CCI is about $18-20 for 100

Basically, you could find better in some circumstances, but in general that’s a good price.
