News / Politics / Activism Genuinely curious on liberal views of gun laws

Hello all. Looking for a debate on the other side of all of the gun laws / bans from a liberal point of view. How does it ACTUALLY make sense to liberals with the current laws. C21 was passed with hopes of lowering crime? How is that going? The OIC. How has the crime rate gone since? How are these “liberal experts” in power thinking this is actually going to make a difference? Canada could 100% ban every single firearm and gun crime would not go down 1 bit. I don’t really know any liberals to talk about it with I’d actually like to hear their side on it. I’m clearly not an expert on any of this but it just seems so ridiculous

You are sort of ignoring the point. Most liberals don’t support (or try to justify) the gun grab. They just tolerate it because it isn’t the most important political issue to them (that determines how they vote) and they prefer the total package of left-leaning politics/policies/platforms versus what is currently being offered by Conservatives.

What is "the point"? My point is that when I listen to parliamentary discourse and committee meetings on the handful of domains I'm confident of my knowledge in, the liberals either flat out lie, make emotional arguments or ignore the truth. This happens nearing 100% of the time I've spent paying attention. It does not skew the other way to the Conservatives. This has completely changed how I vote and think about Canadian politics.

The point is that the guy you responded to wasn’t trying to “justify the gun grab”. It is a straw man argument to debate against a position he doesn’t actually hold.

You didn't read my response properly.

I am not debating anything. He said he's a liberal and a gun nut. So if both those things are true and he's watched the liberals closely, he should be very unhappy with how they're behaving and that should give him some pause with how he votes in the future.

…only if gun policy is one of the most important factors driving your vote. For most people, it is not. That includes pretty much every Liberal voter in this sub.

You're not reading what I am saying.

This has nothing to do with the gun policy.

It has to do with a domain of knowledge he has, that he can evaluate the liberals by.

If he's okay with incompetence and lying, then cool I guess. Some people just want to be on the winning team no matter what.
