News / Politics / Activism Genuinely curious on liberal views of gun laws

Hello all. Looking for a debate on the other side of all of the gun laws / bans from a liberal point of view. How does it ACTUALLY make sense to liberals with the current laws. C21 was passed with hopes of lowering crime? How is that going? The OIC. How has the crime rate gone since? How are these “liberal experts” in power thinking this is actually going to make a difference? Canada could 100% ban every single firearm and gun crime would not go down 1 bit. I don’t really know any liberals to talk about it with I’d actually like to hear their side on it. I’m clearly not an expert on any of this but it just seems so ridiculous

Relying on your intuition of a government who has proven its lies to you to letting the gun file die is the dumbest thing I’ve read. Name one billion dollar project that the liberals let die. They’ll hold out just to save face to the small but loud voter base that’s screaming for these bans.

I don’t get the sense that the new PM gives a shit about the file though. Governments shelve lots of shit to let die when the file becomes unpopular.

They’ve consistently put out statements that keep pushing the program along. Holding their hands to the deadlines as well. There is no sign of the program being scrapped

These guys are either trolls or are sniffing Hoppes and coping. There’s no way they still believe that carney is some magic guru 4D chess player. He lied about the program being voluntary on national television. Like cmon now.

They need to believe that their guy is logical and rational and not just another bent LPC ideologue in order to feel good about voting for him. So they’ll keep pushing this nonsense about him letting it die or whatever despite all evidence to the contrary. It’s that kind of cognizant dissonance that allows people to re-elect the same party with almost all the same members/caucus yet expect it to be different cause the figurehead has changed. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I didn't vote for Carney so I'm not trying to feel good about anything. I'm only going off how noncommittal he has been about the gun ban. They have put up no new money for the program since Trudeau stepped down. That seems like he is letting it run its course to me. I voted Con for my local representative not for Poilievre as I don't really like the guy, but my local representative fights for our riding. Honestly I hate how our Federal Conservatives have become the Reform party.

They don’t have to put any more money into it. They can just keep on the same course and with no changes or extensions to the amnesty you either turn in your prohibs in October or you’re a criminal. It costs them nothing to just keep on going so they likely will.

Bingo. Nathalie provost said she needed help persuading gun owners on “the website”. Pretty sure that includes this forum lol
