Buy recommendations Does anybody know if the Makasi MK-15 is going to be a limited time offer?

Post image

I work seasonally so im not able to afford a pre-order right now but start in a couple months. I’m unable to figure out whether the Makasi is a limited time thing for the Canadian market or not. Some dealers use the words limited and have very small numbers in stock. I’m afraid.

It will be sold until it's banned. Don't worry about pre-ordering. If it's worth owning lots will be available once the initial rush is over.

u/i-Hermit Apr 19 '26

The thing I don't understand is why are rifles like these given FRN's? They could just say "nope" by calling it a variant (which is as true as they feel like) and instantly have a backdoor ban.

Why even allow the game of cat and mouse?

u/Mirin_Gains Apr 19 '26

Maybe we still have some friends at the RCMP lab, or they just do their job by the book.

Who knows. This past 6 years has all been about stretching the rules, manipulating tragedy and leaning on political appointees.

16

u/leyland1989 Apr 19 '26

Career public servants should be doing their job by the book. Thus this is a NR firearm. By definition, it's not a variant and meet the criteria for being a non restricted firearm.

However, in a democracy, elected officials (the chipmunk) by design always get the final say even if every person in the RCMP from the deputy minister (the commissioner) to a mailroom clerk and every subject matter experts (firearms lawyers, lab techs) disagree with him.

We have seen it from time to time the RCMP (a supposedly nonpartisan entity) gave in to the pressure from the elected government and tow the party line. It wouldn't surprised me if Natalie is already frantically trying to get it OIC banned or get Public Safey Canada to instruct/pressure the RCMP CFP to reclassify it as prohibited.

4

u/Mirin_Gains Apr 19 '26

I'd agree but then why even bother with subsequent OICs? To try and get votes? Who knows. I guess I'll take the cope stance that there is trouble in paradise.

9

u/leyland1989 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Probably flew under their (politicians) radar, hence the NR FRT entry. Ministers rarely touch the day to day of an organization, that's the DM's job.

Stranger things had happened before lol, now that it's out as a non restricted under the spotlight. It wouldn't take long until a certain member of parliament having mental breakdown and start screaming about it. The gun buyback is wildly unpopular, but not the gun control policy itself... (You'd be surprised by how much of our population is against or just completely ignorant about firearms in Canada).

Most people just don't care our community at all, and another OIC banning it wouldn't cost them any more votes but it would satisfy a group of very vocal people, so it's a net positive for them.

I have little hope of our government doing the right thing, they care more about virtue signaling and politics over actual effective policies. I'm just hoping that the SCC would at least bring some sanity and common sense back to our country..

2

u/Mirin_Gains Apr 19 '26

I hope so too. This would hobby #3 for me that has been seriously damaged by the Federal Liberals.

1

u/NuclearMelon23 Apr 19 '26

Just curious what are the others?

15

u/Mirin_Gains Apr 19 '26

Exessive enforcement of HADD in the Fisheries Act led to closing any OHV trail that crossed a creek. Part fault lies with the Province who then mandated bridges so expensive that no one could pay to have them over every creek.

I was one of the first people flying FPV wings and then quadcopters in Canada. They overregulated to the point clubs shuttered. We were demonised in the media so people would pester me when I was legally flying on Crown. It has gotten better but it killed our friend group.

This country kills innovation be allowing the Feds to be nanny knows best. It is no wonder no one wants to start a business. It seems you can be rugpulled at any point.

3

u/i-Hermit Apr 19 '26

Definitely agree.. it's just confusing because it's an easy procedural trick to deny the rifle entry to the Canadian market at all.

6

u/gassy_guy308 Apr 19 '26

They want to tax its acquisition and import with the retailer, tax you on its sale, then steal it back from you, spending more on "consultation fees" to brush up their slush fund and laundering margins, then sell the stolen rifle abroad, taxing the new recipient on the export fees.

4

u/SpectreBallistics Spectre Ballistics International (Verified) Apr 19 '26

When you submit a gun for FRT you include a technical data package explaining the gun. As long as you know what you're doing and can prove in it that it's not a variant with a correct technical explanation as to why the lab will not be able to say no, usually.

11

u/Response-Cheap Apr 19 '26

I think the point is to try to condition us, and scare us off of buying tacticool semis in the future, and to just hurt us financially in general.. Allow them in. Allow us to spend our hard earned money on overpriced cope, then take them away. It's like we're being fined for existing.

3

u/i-Hermit Apr 19 '26

Yeah, the pure spite and desire to shaft us would track with the approach they've taken thus far.

2

u/Fuck_you_all22 Apr 19 '26

Trying to bankrupt gun owners. Horse cops are baiting us.

1

u/baconwrappedsack Apr 19 '26

Does any thing of the gun grab make sense? No... nice try rcmp.

1

u/Same-Crazy3119 Jun 16 '26

No it won't be , because it comes hand in hand with his buddy the lovely SKS .It uses a piston driven action , rather than a direct impingement .

85

u/ComplexQuiet6790 Apr 18 '26

Honestly, if you can't afford it now, I wouldnt risk it. There's a chance these get banned before arrival, and then you're stuck with a store credit at best. And a frame-able invoice at worst. If they don't get banned, they'll keep importing them.

1

u/HappyCan7250 May 06 '26

There is also a decent chance these go up significantly in price like we saw with every other tactical style semi auto on the market in the last several years. The R9 when it launched was only like $1300, 6 months later it was $2200-$2500. Same as we have seen with the sks, because options are limited here sadly.

If these only come in in limited numbers, expect used prices to double. There's also the inevitable scalpers who will buy up 10 of them and try to immediately flip them for $3500 when they're sold out everywhere.

Some sites I believe have multiple batches of imported spoken for already, so expect supply to be very slim to outright purchase, and will go very fast. I pre ordered because I don't want to deal with trying to pay an extortionate price on GunPost when demand outstrips supply, and want to get one before any possible bans or freezes.

Every time I see a pic of this I go full mast

How many pre orders do you think have already sold, 1000?

Tenda had 50, bullseye had 2 or 3 rounds of 25-50 each.

Marstar, RDSC, FOC and G4C are still selling them, likely others as well.

They're talking late summer, early fall. I'm thinking they're in the second tranche of these if they're still legal. That would explain the easier terms and less risk. Practically waiting til spring 2027 anyway at that point to use it without frostbite.

Uxbridge Arms is great.

2

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 18 '26

Still have 15 showing in stock.

2

u/Rogan403 Apr 18 '26

Is it fully refundable or "refundable" via 500$ in store credit.

31

u/Ilikechainsaws09 Apr 18 '26

We all know Provost and co have already started pushing the chipmunk around to ban em.

11

u/julienjj Apr 18 '26

There is a non zero chance carney doesnt want to make an OIC for this.

14

u/mischling2543 Apr 18 '26

Yeah although he did support the Trudeau-era bans when he was running I think he's realizing how much of a mistake they were

8

u/slvrus Apr 18 '26

If he truly wants to be a centrist hes gonna have to drop this gun ban nonsense if he really wants to keep peace and gain more of the tory crowd.

9

u/i-Hermit Apr 19 '26

Yeah, I bet he's hoping for a way out of this that appeases the gun crowd but doesn't lose him the Quebec antigun people because "it was out of his hands".

Something like a SCoC ruling.

1

u/IcySkyDream Jun 07 '26

I'm fondling my sexy X95 very fondly.

3

u/Remarkable-Novel-416 Apr 22 '26

Ya I would be super unpopular to ban any more guns so I feel like that would stop him from doing another gun ban but im sure he will try just before his time is up as PM

1

u/Same-Crazy3119 Jun 16 '26

Well he better hurry because his summer holidays ard coming up .....

30

u/rastamasta45 Apr 18 '26

Honestly it’s very very possible these get banned however it does create issues, because it means it’s another rifle that needs to be added for compensation and declaration which they already closed.

The rifle is C21 compliant as well.

It doesn’t mean they won’t because LPC don’t believe in rules and they’re cunts, but it’s a thing.

If you can afford it, don’t ruin your finances. However if you one day can, absolutely go for it and keep it. It’s NR meaning it’s ours and the demented chipmunk can just get pegged by provolone since no one will give them up.

3

u/fllmntljckt Apr 22 '26

You had me at "they're cunts".

1

u/IcySkyDream Jun 07 '26

They're also dicks. I struggle to process this.

2

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Apr 19 '26

I thought the experts are the RCMP and they classified this as NR/R, are they going back and saying the RCMP know nothing about firearms? Would be interesting to see.

1

u/julienjj Apr 19 '26

Valid take. Conflicting testimony from the same expert either means they lied then, they lying now or they're actually not expert.

1

u/Jasonbro221 Apr 20 '26

thats what they did to Crusader Crypto

1

u/arm_flailing Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Situation's a bit different. The Crusader Crypto was manufactured in Canada for the Canadian market so did not require an FRT. Because it had no FRT, the RCMP were able to simply prohib it as an AR-15 variant. Forget that the Crypto was designed specifically to comply with C-21 and that 'variant' is not legally defined.

The MK-15 is imported, and therefore requires and has an FRT. NR-length is NR, R-length is R.

A more similar situation would be the ATRS Modern Sporter. ATRS underwent the FRT process to have the receiver classified as NOT an AR-15 variant, and the original FRT Report states in the Canadian Law Comments section, "...this firearm is derived from an amalgamation of several different firearm designs and does not trace its design lineage directly or uniquely to a "prohibited" or a "restricted" firearm..." Remember that around the same time the CPC repealed the Long Gun Registry, they also put in a provision that FRT entries could not be changed after a year. Then, when the LPC got in, they got rid of that provision. Getting rid of that limit on changing FRT entries after a year opened the door for the RCMP to reclassify the MS as AR-15 variant and therefore Prohib, even though it wasn't included in the original AR-15 prohibition ( https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/it7a52/cfo_and_technician_in_ottawas_take_on_the_atrs/ [Modern Sporter was eligible for declaration and compensation once that aspect of the gun grab was spun up]). But the FRT is not Law, even though it carries the force of Law.

1

u/IcySkyDream Jun 07 '26

The Stag-10 was NR as well, until May 2020.

1

u/grandfundaytoday Apr 20 '26

There is no compensation for the guns that were not on the short list.

8

u/thecoolernameistaken Apr 18 '26

Do you have a semi auto 556 that doesn’t suck? If not it’s all about get it while it’s hot. Big chance theyre banned before a restock

5

u/LumberjackCDN Gold'n Loan Outfitters & Pawn Apr 18 '26

Nope regular stock so long as its not banned is the impression my gravel rep gave me.

8

u/jonatron123 Apr 19 '26

I’m buying this because it feels like I’ll be sticking it to some people who feel strongly about me not having one.

2

u/Remarkable-Novel-416 Apr 22 '26

Ya and i really don’t see them banning anything any time soon i think if anything they will try to ban more guns at the end of Carneys term and even then there’s no point on doing another big ban if they can’t ban the sks so if they are gonna ban this they will ban the sks too

1

u/WiseParking9463 May 22 '26

That all depends on how the SCC rules in the CCFR v GoC OIC use age on firearms.. if we get favourable outcomes it will set a president that they are banned in parliament and that can take months or years.  Instead of the bandaid rip off tactic to avoid drawn out “anger”.  I want one tho…. I’m just scared they’ll ban this and the Carmel and I’m just stuck in FOMO mode.

1

u/IcySkyDream Jun 07 '26

As an older RPAL holder who already has some primo prohibs, I'll step back and let the young'uns have a go at the MK-15 first. 🧐

1

u/Same-Crazy3119 Jun 16 '26

Your absolutely right sir ✅️  The SKS operates under the same principal and if this goes . That's going too....

6

u/Infinite_Price_3550 Apr 18 '26

G4C is doing first come first serve for when their shipment comes in. Signing up for an email to tell when they arrive might be your best bet.

9

Another 3k paper weight

14

u/ImpossibleWitness505 Apr 18 '26

that’s if we start practicing compliance

3

u/Cope180-Enjoyer Apr 18 '26

Nobody knows. Just buy it if you want it. It's only gonna get more expensive if stock runs out and it's not banned.

1

u/Remarkable-Novel-416 Apr 22 '26

It’s pretty clear that they aren’t gonna ban anything until they can ban the sks and as of right now they really can’t ban the sks so there’s no point on banning this

1

u/WiseParking9463 May 22 '26

Why can’t they ban the SKS tho? Is it just because of indigenous practices in harvesting?

1

u/IcySkyDream Jun 07 '26

Too many people in general (including FN) have one, including plenty of FUDDs, so they would criminalize and piss off far too many people.

It's all a numbers game to the grabbers. Ultimately, they want to take everything that goes bang, even airsoft (they already tried).

3

u/under_hunter82376 Apr 18 '26

if I had to guess , not limited edition , but limited stock .

1

u/Remarkable-Novel-416 Apr 22 '26

Why would it be limited stock we are gonna be the only people who want one I doubt ppl in America are gonna want that gun for 2500

3

u/Unknownuser010203 Apr 18 '26

I'm sure companies will want to restock them. They will sell incredibly well up until they are banned.

3

u/JazzManJasper Apr 18 '26

Good luck everyone. May the government be with you 😐😐

3

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 18 '26

You can preorder for like 200$

3

u/andrew416705 Apr 18 '26

An ACR stock will be right at home on this

1

u/WiseParking9463 May 22 '26

Hmmmm it will work??

3

u/Mammoth_Telephone_61 Apr 18 '26

Just ordered mine from uxbridge arms

3

u/BrotherLefthand Apr 19 '26

Like a full bodied blonde at Hooters... you dream of taking her home, but when you finally do the government whisks her away on felony charges for being too dang sexy...

3

u/Status_Ticket5044 Apr 20 '26

...and you're left broke and blue-balled, wondering WTF just happened. Good analogy.

6

u/Ok_Rush_246 Apr 18 '26

In my experience, pre ordering guns is a bad idea. Usually the people who preorder get their stuff last. Retailers would rather make new sales than fulfill ones they already got paid for

10

u/Geralt-of-Rivai Apr 18 '26

This happened a lot with the WK180 Gen 2. I preordered mine and was waiting months for it to come in. The exact same store got some in stock for in store sales and people were just walking in and grabbing one while I was sitting there waiting for mine to be shipped

2

u/i-Hermit Apr 19 '26

Prebuild condos lol

-1

u/Flafson Apr 18 '26

Deposit is only ~20% though, they still want the other 80% that they didn't get yet.

2

u/Ok_Rush_246 Apr 19 '26

Two reasons thats false:

  • The sale is pretty well guaranteed once the deposit is paid

  • 20% is close to the markup on the firearm anyways so it would be more profitable to simply keep the deposit

5

u/TheBoringOwl Apr 18 '26

If you don’t get it in the first batch, you run a very real risk of it being banned before dealers can restock.

9

u/Geralt-of-Rivai Apr 18 '26

But then what good is it to get the first batch of it's just banned, better to be the latter and not waste your money if that happens

16

u/Unknownuser010203 Apr 18 '26

Better a safe queen that nothing

14

u/Geralt-of-Rivai Apr 18 '26

I have enough of those sadly

0

u/Unknownuser010203 Apr 18 '26

Who knows about the gentleman though. For me, even if I only get 6 months it'll be worth it

8

u/Ok_Competition6823 Apr 18 '26

3k for 6 months? Nice not me

1

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Apr 18 '26

6days and it be infinitely more than what the last one lasted for me. Pretty much the price of a 6day vacation as well.

0

u/Ok_Competition6823 Apr 19 '26

You are comparing a stress free 6 day vacation in a different country with a different culture, food and way of life and what could be a life changing experience to having a gun that you can shoot for 6 days and never again? Yeah you are a idiot.

3

u/Reasonable_Hall2346 Apr 19 '26

I am guessing you are a young adult based on your comment. Why do I need a life changing experience? I am at place in life that I've built and want to be. Married with kids and have disposable income. You calling me an idiot just shows your lack of life-experience. Adult hobbies are expensive, and people have interests and priorities that conflict with yours. That doesn't make anyone an idiot.

I am not suggesting anyone else buy this gun, its a risk that others want to take. That's up to them. They are not idiots for doing so.

2

u/Loud_Cap_4250 Apr 18 '26

Some stores are doing fcfs when they receive them with no preorder

2

u/Captain-Hammer Apr 18 '26

I think there is a real risk this will get an OIC asap before it gets imported. A future ban reopens the whole buyback issue unless they just straight up say no compensation for this legal NR firearm. Which is also a possibility.

3

u/BigheadReddit Apr 18 '26

Sadly, theres little chance this firearm won’t be banned. It fits a loophole they didn’t anticipate and will simply issue an OIC to stem the tide. While I personally disagree, and regardless of the technical aspects, this is exactly the kind of firearm they want to prevent Canadians from owning.

1

u/BigheadReddit Apr 19 '26

Because it’s not on the list yet. It takes time, but it’ll surprise me if it doesn’t happen. Police officers and other public safety officials, even RCMP technicians within the CFP itself, have commented before on the non-sensical method and reasoning behind why one version of a firearm is prohibited over another, very often by just how it looks. It’s also political, why do you think the SKS is still available?

1

u/grandfundaytoday Apr 20 '26

T97 was banned - they'll do whatever they want.

2

u/Mirin_Gains Apr 18 '26

If it isn't banned it will continue being sold. Most people who have ordered these don't care if they get canned via OIC for one reason or another.

I would only say you need the attitude above, for any reason for which I mind my own business, if you want to purchase one.

2

u/Apologetic-Moose Apr 18 '26

The manufacturer can only pump out so many at a time, so the first run is likely all going to be sold via preorders. It's in high demand, so essentially what you're looking at is that retailers are ordering a finite number for the first batch and opening preorders for those specific rifles.

However, AFAIK it's only that initial batch that's limited. If/when the manufacturer can export a second, third, etc. batch, preorders will open again, or if there's less demand they'll go straight onto the shelves.

2

u/No-Night-48 Apr 18 '26

In Canada, I can almost guarantee the government will ensure that it is. You might even be eligible for the buyback.

2

u/Big-Guitar-1979 Apr 18 '26

It will end up as a safe queen

4

u/Ok_Juggernaut1074 Apr 18 '26

Way overpriced.

11

u/Flat-Dark-Earth Big Bore Specialist Apr 18 '26

Why do you think that? It’s a stanag black rifle with FAL vibes from an apparently reputable manufacturer.

$2,400 would be in line with 2020 prices, in 2026 it seems like a great deal.

1

u/Blusk-49-123 Apr 18 '26

Are you gonna be okay with your financial decision if this thing gets banned? Remember you're gonna need to buy ammo to go use this thing too. As a semi-auto, it's easier to dump a couple hundred rounds in an afternoon.

2

u/SleazyGreasyCola Apr 18 '26

it least it's 5.56 and it wont completely break the bank. 308/7.62 would add up real fast

1

u/boomstickjonny Apr 18 '26

Probably because it'll undoubtedly be added to the ban list pretty quick

1

u/Baelnorn Apr 18 '26

Is anyone other than Gravel bringing them in?

1

u/FedInformant Apr 18 '26

Is this a non-reciprocating charge handle?

1

u/eldaniay Apr 18 '26

i don't know why you cant just import one from irunguns. probably cheaper too

1

u/PhillipJK Apr 19 '26

You can but remember that they would be restricted since they have <=16” barrels. The ones coming into the country now are made by the manufacturer with 18.6” NR barrels.

Also, you’d have to source one and go through the import process with all the fees which takes a while. It may even arrive after the first NR shipment.

1

u/eldaniay Apr 19 '26

does the makasi use standard ar15 barrels?

1

u/PhillipJK Apr 19 '26

As far as I know, yes. So you could swap it out for a NR barrel in the future. Although that is a significant investment in time and money.

1

u/eldaniay Apr 19 '26

Excellent Ill get right on that after I find a job as a young Canadian

1

u/PhillipJK Apr 19 '26

Yup, shit is fucked. Good luck my friend.

1

u/Daedalus-N7 Apr 19 '26

The limited time as in it may not even arrive before it gets banned sure

1

u/MyBrainIsGonelol Apr 19 '26

Anyone know when the second batch would be coming from bullseye? The first one is the end of summer so I'm wondering how long it takes for the second one.

1

u/atim-omii Apr 19 '26

If these rifles were made in .308 the northern hunters (like me) would have more incentive to buy. I could take moose and black bear with it, but most of these are in .223 or 5.56 and that’s just not versatile or powerful enough to ethically use on northern big game. I have to drive a good ways south to find deer to justify a .223 rifle purchase. Just my 2 cents as a treaty subsistence hunter.

1

u/Mysterious_Sleep7443 Apr 20 '26

Could be a "one and done" import

Who knows

Id rather have 3 of them than none

1

u/CheesecakeEasy8952 Apr 20 '26

Grave Dancer will Ban it!

1

u/Leading_Apricot8620 Apr 20 '26

Id have bought one if they made it in 308. 223 is simply unapealing to me. I have a bolt 223 i use to plink at 500yds+ but a semi 223 seems a bit pointless to me. A semi 308 would have been great for hunting tho

1

u/gregarious01 May 07 '26

I was told yesterday there is supposed to be a second shipment in January. The first will be August/September

2
