Application / Regulation advice Belt Fed?

Saw this on Google images and that got me thinking, if there is no limit on something like a belt then why aren't there more manufacturers in Canada creating belt fed semi autos?

Im pretty sure the centre-fire round limit still applies. Lockhart tactical was making a .22LR that was belt fed

The original language is:

(f) is of the “belt” type consisting of a fabric or metal belt, is not a reproduction and was originally designed or manufactured for the purpose of feeding cartridges into a automatic firearm of a type that was in existence before 1945.

The 1945 only applies to belts that were designed for automatic firearms. Rimfire and Semi-automatic designed belts would be exempt from the 5 round limit. The language of the regs notes that belts are magazines so the rimfire exemption would apply.
