Shooting My 7 year old's second time shooting.

I bought a little Cricket for her to use with an adorable little scope. She was pretty excited to create a hole in the target lol! 20m bench

You are a good Canadian parent!

Haha thanks! I am going to take her to watch air pistol shooting too and see if she would be interested in joining. Get her on the road to exemption early lol!

Yesssss... get her onto cross-country skis and then she can do Olympic handgun shooting in the summer and biathlon in the winter

Where can you watch this?

I honestly have been wanting to get more into air pistol and rifle since I can reasonably do that without a 2 hour drive to a proper range. Just having a bit of a time finding gear that is reasonably "entry level"

So, anybody reading this who is involved with some kind of shooting sport, training, etc. should know it is kind of hard to find groups doing structured shooting because advertisement is nearly non existent.

I stumbled upon air pistol and rifle shooting when I went to the range one evening and they were set up. Same with IPSC: "why is the range so packed today?"

Reach out to your local range, or these guys: https://www.sfc-ftc.ca/

Let your daughter know she shoots as good as a 27 year old 😆

Sweet, I found with my little brother that since he really only wanted to shoot .22lr and .22wmr because he was recoil sensitive that if you very the platform and the sight system it keeps things interesting. I had him shooting my 10/22 with a red dot, Winchester .22wmr lever with open sights, marlin with peep sights and cooey with a scope and he was loving it.

My grandma passed away and I inherited her Cooey, so I will definitely be letting her try a variety.

The Cricket is awesome for a small kid though. Small for her hands and reach.

I wanted to do the same with my 6 year old daughter and couldn’t find the legal minimum age for handling a rifle while supervised by a PAL owner. The RCPM only seems to have a age minimum for the Minor Licence which is 12 years. Does anyone have the info if it would be legal or not to bring my 6 years old to shoot with me?

At my range there's a guy that brings his 5 and 7 year old all the time. As long as they're supervised it's no problem

there is no legal requirement but if you go to another country, ranges are willing to accommodate any ages - obviously it's sort of fake, with mostly the instructor holding the gun and handling everything

I envy you so much. My 2-year old shot a full mag of .22LR from a handgun but couldn't hit the paper target at all. I feel like I failed as a parent.

Don't beat yourself up. Keep at it and by 4 they will be ready for Black Badge!

Maybe try nerf guns to start. Let him observe the ballistic arc of the foam darts in the air.

That might help him build spatial awareness of what the projectiles actually do

Must have a good teacher.

ADHD, so I figured taking a crack at "focus, breathe, squeeze" might be good for her. She is using a rest for now but crushed it!

I have to thank Mapleseed organizers for teaching me to rifle shoot better, which I can pass to my kids now.
