Gun and gear reviews Getting the band back together..
Looks like there’s a path for the 110rd GSG16 Drums collecting dust, to work with the 10/22..
Picked up this printed 597 neck adapter on GP. Making these drums effectively 110rd 597 magazines.
Angle of the neck seems correct with the bolt, and the 3d print quality seems decent.
Would love to see an aluminum neck option.
Hopefully these run better than the promag drums.
Range test soon

I’m decently happy with the 30 round drums. This thing is freakishly huge. I frigging want one. 😐

Who on GP did you buy it from?

Shelpen Polymer Works is the Youtube channel. There’s links there to their GP, cant post those here

So, Ive messaged them a couple times on GP now and haven't gotten a response. I wanted to wait till I could source and get my hands on a drum, and now no response

I got two of them, and they work great. I only had one problem. One of the dummy rounds was loaded into the breach, not extracted when the bolt was racked and pushed into the barrel with the next mag. I thought I had a squib, but a dummy round came out. To be totally honest, it was a feedneck I added to my own mag, so I likely put one too many dummy rounds in. I will be checking numbers, and I will top off with a metal dummy round.

Yeah it took a bit of finessing with the dummy rounds provided to get just enough tension through the neck to the drum. Hopefully it runs well like it did in the GSG days

Would this work with the gsg16 stick mags?
2
u/Sad_Buy_9866 Apr 15 '26
Don’t think so. The stick mag’s body is two clam shell pieces, with no removable neck portion

I have not seen the 10/22 adapter for the GSG16 drum mag, but I have seen one for then TM22 from Tommy Enterprises and based on various comments here, on CGN, and Facebook, it apparently does not work.
Was one released for the 10/22 as well? Hopefully it's by another designer.

Different designer than the Tommy stuff. This one is by Shelpen Polymer Works. He has a newer Youtube channel with some overviews of this in action.

Wait n see. Range test hopefully this weekend.

How did it goooooo lol
2
u/Sad_Buy_9866 Apr 19 '26
Didn’t test it out. But, noticed an issue cycling dummy rounds. There’s ~2mils of play on the neck’s latching section to the SBI adapter. This causes the feedlips to sit just below the bolt, so rounds are not pushed into the chamber.
What this means is standing and shooting is unlikely to work unless you’re bracing the drum. Benchrest shouldnt be an issue.
Gonna have to jb weld/mcgyver this gap shut to get the mag’s neck to fit tight

I took mine to the range with 85 loaded in it and I popped off 50 before I had a double feed. I filled and emptied it multiple times. Practically drew crowds lol .. loading it is much more annoying than promags, but this setup absolutely works. The Shelpen adapter is also my new favourite lol

Shelpen adapter?
1
u/NeruLight Apr 24 '26
Yeah he sells a 597 to 10/22 adapter! He can make it with the mag release on either side, too. I got one with the release on the right-hand-side, which is like way more convenient for the way I operate my 10/22. I used the drum with the SBI adapter too and it works fine but with the shelpen adapter I can use my right hand (I break grip) and it feels more natural to me

Did you find these reliable?
1
u/Sad_Buy_9866 Jun 24 '26
Only was reliable sitting. The drum is too heavy for the tiny 3d printed notch that holds the mag to the adapter. When standing, the smallest bump would cause the mag to drop.
If it was made in metal, would be much better

I honestly don’t understand how this is any different than just using a purpose built 110rd gsg mag for a 10/22. Like this plus a mag well adapter just makes a semi purpose built 10/22 mag. Or is it like if I put a 10/22 adapter right onto the magazine, straight to jail.

u/BigGuy204 Apr 15 '26
Also fallow up question if you put this all into a ruger charger does that mean straight to jail. Like is the magazine marked anywhere stating what firearm it’s intended for? My apologies just overthinking all of this.

These hoops are because of our spaghetti laws on mag restrictions + handguns.
All 10/22 mags have to pinned to 10rds because of the charger pistol, from a horse cop memo.
Yeah there’s some old 10/22 drums possibly out there, but theyre considered prohib devices as they fit the charger.

i asked that question at the range and they dont care and then my lawyer and this is his responce fyi
Subject: Legality of the GSG 110-Round Rotary Drum Magazine for Ruger 10/22 .22 LR Rifle in
Canada (2025)
Pursuant to the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada and associated regulations, including but
not limited to SOR/98-462, and in accordance with interpretive guidance issued by the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police (RCMP) and Public Safety Canada, the following legal analysis is provided:
- Statutory Framework:
Under the Regulations Prescribing Certain Firearms and Other Weapons, Components and Parts of
Weapons, Accessories, Cartridge Magazines, Ammunition and Projectiles as Prohibited or Restricted
(SOR/98-462), a cartridge magazine is deemed a prohibited device if it exceeds the prescribed
capacity limits unless exempted.
Full text: https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/sor-98-462/fulltext.html
- RCMP Interpretive Guidance:
The RCMP Firearms Program stipulates that magazines designed and manufactured exclusively for
use in .22 calibre rimfire rifles are exempt from capacity restrictions, regardless of the number of
cartridges they can contain.
RCMP Guidelines:
https://rcmp.ca/en/firearms/classes-firearms/maximum-permitted-magazine-capacity
- Applicability to GSG Rotary Magazine:
The GSG 110-round rotary drum magazine is explicitly designed for the Ruger 10/22 .22 LR rifle, a
rimfire rifle platform. It is not compatible with any semi-automatic handgun, and therefore qualifies for
exemption under the aforementioned RCMP guidance.
- Public Safety Canada Position:
Public Safety Canada affirms that large capacity magazines are prohibited unless permanently
altered or exempted by design. Rimfire rifle magazines that are not dual-use (i.e., not usable in
handguns) are considered exempt.
Public Safety Canada:
https://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/cnt/trnsprnc/brfng-mtrls/prlmntry-bndrs/20240220/12-en.aspx
Conclusion:
Based on the foregoing statutory and regulatory framework, and the specific design characteristics of
the GSG 110-round rotary drum magazine for the Ruger 10/22 .22 LR rifle, it is concluded that said
magazine is legally permissible for possession and use in Canada by individuals holding a valid
Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), provided it remains exclusively compatible with rimfire
rifles and not adaptable for use in semi-automatic handguns.

Nice that some ranges and folks are cool with it.
Though I havent seen any business or importer bring in a GSG 110rd drum mags for the 10/22 in years. All due to a rcmp notice about how the ruger charger pistol shares the same mag footprint as the 10/22 rifle, thus anything 10rds+ for the rifle is problematic/prohib.
INAL, but your lawyer’s statement in 3. is missing the point that the GSG 110rd drums for a 10/22 fits the charger handgun without any modification.
The whole thing is goofy and shouldn’t apply considering handguns/charger sales, are frozen.. but that’s another issue lol

Bass Pro still has a few in stock on the floor but not online but it is for GSG 16
3
u/MrWrock Apr 15 '26
You cannot permanently modify a magazine. So I can buy 597 drum mags, print an adapter so it fits in my 10/22, and use it. I can permanently attach the adapter to my magwell, since modifying the firearm is allowed. But God forbid if I were to permanently attach the adapter to the 597 mag then I'd be an evil criminal and Nathalie will come drag me straight to jail

I'll be following this with great interest. Dinky 20-round Promags for my SBI adapter isnt enough lol I've been waiting for someone to utilize the plethora of GSG magazines still out there for a good purpose
