Shooting Shotgun Chamber Length Question
This might be a silly question, but my uncle recently gave me this shotgun and I'm not sure if it can take both 2 3/4" shells and 3" shells or only 2 3/4" shells.
The gun is:
Cooey Model 840 12GA 2 3/4" - 3 full choke Winchester proof steel Made in Canada by Winchester

I'd feel a lot more comfortable if it said 2-3/4" - 3" instead of 2-3/4" - 3 but I assume it means that you can use either cartridge length (but maybe not lower?)

I read it the same way. Also from my search, it says the 840 specifically is 3". The ones that are model 84 are not.

Yes, as per the stamping, this is a 3" chambered gun.
A lot of these shotguns were made around the time when 3" chambers were becoming more common, so many were stamped that they could shoot 2 3/4" shotshells as well to not confuse the Average Joe who might think he couldn't if they only stamped 3" on there.
