Misc Makasi (FAL-AR hybrid) approved by the RCMP as NON-RESTRICTED

Post image

According to CGN it was granted a NR FRT #198428 very recently. Any BFL/verifiers here care to check?

Edit: Multiple BFLs have verified it to be true NR, and the importer/distributor is Gravel Agency

From the manufacturer's website:

The Makasi marries the functional aesthetic of the FAL with the familiar handling of AR-style controls. It features a short stroke gas piston system and bufferless recoil system and operates with a non-reciprocating side charging handle. The Para-style stock is also side-folding and is supported with a robust two-screw mounting system that allows for firing in both the folded and deployed positions.

I want this in 308.

Same; if I had the money, I'd of course want it in both, but given a choice of either 5.56 or .308, I'd take the latter first.

556 does not make sense to me at all in this type of rifle.

In a Red Dawn situation you will not be part of some squad or team that will be doing any shooting and scooting. We don't have full auto and no magazine capacity. No patrolling, so lighter cartridges don't matter.

If you want to use it for rodent and varmint defense then 223 is great, but I doubt this kind of rifle is not ideal for that, even if they are charging you in a group.

IPSC use: Bigger bullets, bigger holes. Bigger holes, better chance of cutting the lines.

An I missing anything?

We don't have full auto and no magazine capacity.

Full auto is dumb for anything other than suppressing fire, magazine capacity can be solved fairly easily if the need arises.

The first step of a red dawn situation is the enemy sneaking in and taking everyone's screwdrivers/tools that could be used to remove rivets, because once that happens we would truly be stuck at 5 round pinned mags only with no way to open them up, obviously.
