Misc Mossberg 590 abnormal wear?

Would you consider this to be abnormal wear? This is the first 590 and Mossberg shotgun I’ve owned so I’m not sure what the typical wear looks like. About 150 shells and this mark has appeared on the ceiling of the receiver.

I plan on shooting it lots! Just want to make sure it lasts and that I’m not doing anything incorrect.

It's fine, you're breaking it in.

Figured as much, just struck me as odd that it’s wearing in such a specific spot more than the rest of the receiver.

My 590A1 looks the same. Receiver is aluminum, bolt is steel. When it wears in, it'll rub a bit. Just lightly oil that area.

Thanks for the response. I just wanted to get an idea of this is normal.

Question for you. I want the 590A1, but I also wanna hunt small game and eventually deer too. Do you see a scenario where it would be a good hunting gun?

I think with the 590a1 you are more limited to what kind of long barrels you can swap it out for because of the way that the barrel threads onto the end of the magazine cap compared to the 500 which is much more swappable between short and long barrels.

Honestly considering how cheap you can get a used pump shotgun, you could probably get a 590A1 and a cheap hunting pump gun with a long barrel for hunting. I think for a short barrel shock on the 590 is superior to the 500 and the a1 is the best. Overbuilt perhaps but overbuilt is good. And then you can find a used navigator Mossberg 500 with a long barrel for your hunting needs.

Thanks for the answer. That's what my research suggested too. Was hoping to have one gun for two needs, but two guns it is! Thanks again.

No problem! Having two guns would definitely be nice but I think you would be compromising on both ends.

Yea, I think I'm just gonna go with a 500 and just swap barrels for the different needs. I know they make combos, but I can't seem to find who has them in stock. I have time before my PAL comes through anyway.

just looks like finish got scratched off. That part should be lightly lubed anyways so its no big deal, i would think.

Those pictures are a little blurry but my 590 mariner has wear that looks very similar around the Center top of the receiver. Keep her somewhat lubed up and she’ll be happy. If it seats it yeets!
