Shot trap for the first time yesterday

Finally went to a proper trap shooting range for the first time yesterday and I was just blown away with how awesome it was and how friendly everyone was. I got a 30 min private shooting lesson for free from a friend of the owner; bear in mind this is my first real gun I've had in my life, so I was very appreciative. We even patterned my shot! The other shooters were really nice too, so I was just chatting between my rounds with the older guys, got to look at a couple really nice shotguns.

For context, I bought my first gun, a mossberg 88 about a month ago. Been playing around with some snap caps, went to range a couple times to practice with some slugs over the past month too. I was really nervous going into this but man, I am blown away with how nice and accepting everyone was.

Glad you had a great time! Skeet is a ton of fun and once you get the hang of it you can easily go 10/10. We bought a little pedal activated launcher at home and go through cases of clays per summer.

Was a blast! Skeet is 100% on my plan, but Ill probably do a few more rounds of trap before I give it a go. I actually have 2 separate outdoor ranges less than 10 mins from my place, so Ill probably keep going to them for a bit, though a buddy of mine owns 50 acres maybe 15 mins out, so hey, would be really cool to shoot some clays with my own stuff.

I did my first clay shooting like a year ago or so. I was blown away. So much fun, my shotgun had been sitting there unused for years before I realized how fun shooting clays was.  I went out and promptly bought a 50 dollar clay thrower after so I could  do it even by myself. 

Tons of fun and a totally different sport than my normal target shooting

Trap/sporting clays are the most fun I’ve had in the shooting sports. Everyone I’ve encountered has been incredibly helpful and welcoming! Glad to have you join the sport!

Rule 1 is be safe, Rule 2 is have fun. Sounds like you did both. Next thing you know you'll be wearing a tweed jacket and flat caps.

Its the best. Stationary targets get dull after a while and hunting is totally different but trap is my favorite way to spend a spring or summer afternoon.

I shot clays for the first time back in December, shooting trap at the local range with my 20" 870 IC. Went out and got a 28" A300 Ultima and got a range membership at a shotgun-only club. Shooting trap is fun, but if you ever get the chance, go shoot a sporting clays course. 15 different stations with two different birds at each station. I was doing pretty good at trap, but sporting clays humbled me, but also got me a lot more in-tune with how shooting a shotgun actually works, trap angles are all very similar, sporting has a ton of variation.

Also +1 I love the people I meet at the gun range, everyone is very nice.

Man this is on my to do list so bad but not sure where to go or get started also new to pal so it’s a bit intimidating to get started got my Mossberg 500 hah Durham region
