I have finally finished the process of refinishing my No.5 Mk 1 and pictures just don’t do the finish justice. Tried to give a couple angles to showcase the sheen and gorgeous grain. And before they say I hurt the value, I really don’t care. IMO this lil guy is the best Lee Enfield out there, a true joy to shoot and scoot around with in the bush.

What’s a good price for a Lee enfield today? Never owned one but now I’m intrigued.

For unsporterized rifles, depending on the model and condition I’ve seen from 800-1300 recently.

I paid 1200 all in for mine last month. I see G4C has several right now for 1200-1400. One of the coolest rifles ive even owned.

I used to think these were all $300 rifles but that must have been the spotters.

Which model did you end up going with?

Anything specific to look out for?

I just did a post to show mine. Ask for photos of bore if possible. There are some fake no5s out there, best to do some reading on the telltale signs if you decide to look for one, but real ones have a lot of metal removed from bolt and reliever they did to lighten it

Well the no1s are definitely 250-300 in sporter state. No4 a bit more. Mine is fully stock, no5 1945 BSA Shirley, matching numbers. If you care about holding value then its better to look for numbers matching , that will raise price. Non matching are fine to shoot but won't retain quite as much value. But they are all beautiful Edit for spelling

I paid $900 last year for this bad boy and they threw in an OG cleaning kit with it. Don’t think it came with the rifle, but it’s for the rifle. I feel I got a good deal, though I will admit the bolt is not matched to the rifle. It’s a No. 4 bolt, no lightening cut in the handle. Rest of the rifle is legit though.

It’s a 1947 Fazakerley. Had old flecks of green and black paint embedded in the grain of the rifle, which led me to believe this may have been used in Malaya or Rhodesia.

Wasn’t much left to destroy, just subtle remnants. And I left one Easter egg preserved for the keen eye. And because it’s my rifle, with no plans of rehoming it.

I was able to pick up a no1 mk3 sporter for about $300 at auction. Bolt mismatch but has magazine cutoff and windage adjustment on the rear sight.

I’ve seen sporters go for between $300-$400ish at a local show, and unsporterized no1s usually go for $800+

Is the sling new webbing? Of did you manage to find a sling in THAT good of condition?

Did you use Circa 1850 on it?

Honest truth is it’s just a magpul RLS in coyote brown. And yes I used circa 1850 danish oil, followed by 50/50 mineral spirits to polyurethane mix. It may be sacrilege to some, but I am more than happy with the end result🥹

Oh i never thought about doing a poly topcoat on mine. I only really ever shoot it for service rifle though, so it’s somewhat pampered.

I use a modern sling as well. My original is pretty fragile. You had me fooled with yours!

Meh sacrilege. Rifles are meant to be shot and enjoyed. I could understand if it had a historical significance specific to that particular rifle, but just a run of the mill rack rifle, fill yer boots.

How accurate is it for hunting?

I have no technical information to give you to claim any accuracy for an efficient hunt, but I am sure this rifle will do the job well.

I WANT to get into hunting, but at my stage in life personal time is a premium and I hardly get to shoot. So I spend my time tinkering with my rifles in my garage when I have a moment. Any advice for a novice wanting to get into the sport solo?
