Gun and gear reviews T3x stainless 223

Need some insight on these if anyone has used them personally. I am looking to with over from a rem700 action and build a tikka instead. Getting a decent deal on a brand new rifle. I will be using it for target shooting at max 4-500 yards. (Not skilled enough to do numbers beyond that yet). Planning to put it in a MDT chassis and Arken scope.

Both work.

I would take a tikka action over a factory rem 700 action

A bergara action could be compared to a tikka action

An aftermarket 700 action is a step up over a tikka action.

I have two - the varmint and the sporter weight. What I mostly like about the T3 is that they're all long actions. They have a bolt stop and a magazine stop that limits travel, but with a small amount of work, you can get them to feed much longer OAL cartridges. Pair that with the 8-twist barrel in 223, and you have a decent platform for launching high-BC bullets for long range shooting.

They're ...pretty okay... nothing spectacular. Typical Tikka, really. They're very slick and smooth, but they're nothing to write home about. IMO, they're excellent guns if they were about 30% cheaper. As is, they're just okay for the price.

I'd take a browning X or A-bolt, or a Bergara over a Tikka. And for value, Savage is a bit rough and crude, but can usually compete very well in the accuracy department.

How they compare to the '700? I don't presently have a 700, but it seemed pretty comparable to the ones I've owned. Remington's quality has varied over the years, though. I'd put them as moderately inferior to my mildly-accurized Remmy XR-100.

Great rifles and made well enough that barrel makers make prefit barrels for them. Perfect building action.

What is your budget and what MDT chassis were you planning on using? The ACE could potentially be a perfect fit for you. If that doesn't fit what you want, just make sure you are getting a varmint or CTR since your goal is target shooting.

I am looking at a varmint. Planning for a MDT CRBN hunter blaze.(absolutely love the look of this chassis). Ace has been on my radar as well but not really a big fan of the look

Theyre beautiful rifles. Ive yet to hear of someone tell me in the shop that theyre unhappy with a Tikka.

You'll be good to go, but just note with your intended setup, you are putting a heavy action/barrel combo onto an extremely lightweight chassis system.

Never thought about that part. I’m trying to stay away from the tactical looking chassis to be honest. Is there other options that are worth looking at ?

Really depends on what you are lookin for. A lot of manufacturers are making Tikka inletted stocks and chassis now. Bell and Carlson, McMillan, Boyds, KRG, Grayboe etc.
