Feets / Collection / My build Impulse buy

anyone else have one of these? I was at the range and seen it on the shelf. thought it was interesting so I bought it and I really like it so far. it's a 1.2 so doesnt have any of the issues that the first batch had

Yes it does and lar15 mags from duramag and crossmags work flawlessly so you can run 10 rounders

Have you tried any heavier bullets in it? 69gr HPBT or anything like that?

Not yet. I've only shot some regular pmc bronze and some higher velocity 55 grain. I'll be buying 69 grain for outdoor use this summer. I read with the 1:9 twist at 18 inches 69 grain is the sweet spot. It having a 223 wylde chamber design(according to hera's german website) I should be able to run whatever I want for ammo.

I’ve got 2 223 bolt actions, and they don’t shoot 55’s great. But 69gr Sierra’s (handloads) group about .65”ish @ 100yds averaging over a little over 100 rds. 1st shotting a 6” gong at 500 yards is a pretty regular occurrence in predictable winds.

Definitely worth the money.

Are you measuring your groups with 5 shots or 3?

Sorry, I shouldn’t have used the term “groups”… double the mean radius from intended POI was around .65” @ 100 yards. This is with Lapua brass, Sierra 69gr HPBT Match King… federal match primers, fairly sure it was Benchmark I was using, but it mighta been Varget. Rem 700 VTR (yes the one with the ridiculous triangle bbl) in a Magpul stock. Nightforce NXS 2.5-10.

You got me wondering, I just cleaned my basement and moved all those targets recently. So this is all from memory which was somewhat recently jarred. I wanna say I was using 5 shot groups, but here’s the thing. Using aggregate data, mean radius from intended POI negates the number of shots per group argument. Plus if you incorporate azimuth, you get a solid number representative of your rifle at that time to input into ballistic calculation software that accounts for zero offset. So in a sense I’m using 106?(I’m not positive exactly how many shots were there, just that there were slightly over 100) shot groups because the data is aggregate. Sure it doesn’t define the ultimate extreme spread of the group, but it does give you valuable data on whether or not you’d hit the intended target, plus the offset data.

If you want to use that data to assess a load change or change in firearm condition or configuration, you’d need Standard Deviation as well to account for the quality of your data, and then you’d start factoring in overall group size to account for fliers. But for purely hitting targets down range and measuring your rifles’ ability to do that (because that’s the whole reason I’m shooting) you’re better off with the mean radius from IPOI in my opinion.
